The burden and psychosocial impact on immediate caregivers of patients with spinal cord injury in a tertiary health facility,edo state,Nigeria

Objective:This study aimed to assess the burden and psychosocial impact of spinal cord injury on the immediate caregivers at a tertiary health facility in Benin City,edo *** and Methods:A descriptive cross-sectional survey design was adopted among 73 family caregivers in the neurological ward of a tertiary health facility using a structured questionnaire as instrument of data *** collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple logistic ***:Findings revealed that an overall mean of 2.73 indicates that the burden on the caregivers was moderate with a moderate psychological impact(m=2.88)and a high sociological impact(m=3.12).Factors affecting the caregiving provided by immediate caregivers include social and household responsibilities(94.5%),financial situation(89.0%),family support(83.6%),and health status of the caregiver(80.8%).Age(odds ratio[OR]=5.67,95%confidence interval[CI]:1.23-27.17,P=0.027),education(OR=3.75,95%CI:1.05-13.39,P=0.041),and“others”(spouses,siblings,friends,or extended family members)(OR=3.167,95%CI:1.583-6.337,P=0.001)were predictors for high psychological impact while education(OR=0.074;95%CI:0.015-0.370,P=0.001)and caregiving role(OR=3.167;95%CI:0.1.583-6.337,P=0.001)high sociological ***:Majority of the caregivers experience moderate burden,moderate psychological impact,and high sociological *** these factors is essential for developing targeted interventions and support services to address the unique needs of caregivers and mitigate the burden of caregiving on their psychosocial health.

Adiponectin orchestrates testosterone suppression in biological pathways

Morphometry and Significance of Collodiaphyseal Angle among Bini Tribe in Southern Nigeria

Introduction:The collodiaphyseal angle(CDA)is an angle formed between the femoral neck and femoral shaft *** is a vital determinant of femoral neck fracture as narrower angle is often used as a predictor of stress *** is also important in orthopedic treatment planning,especially hip replacement ***:This study was carried out to evaluate the CDA values among the Bini tribe and elucidate its ***:This study employed 200 anterior-posterior pelvic radiographs of the Bini tribe(100 males and 100 females)aged between 25 and 55 years obtained from selected radiological diagnostic centers in Benin City,Nigeria,after obtaining the Institutional Ethical *** were used to evaluate the right and left CDA as an angle formed by intersection of the femoral neck and shaft axes and measured using the *** were statistically analyzed using IBM-SPSS(version 20)with the mean,standard deviation,and range evaluated,and side and gender comparisons were done using t-test,and P0.05).Conclusion:The CDA can be employed as a morphometric indicator of sexual differences and for other clinical applications.

In recent times, solar energy has become one of the largest available sources of renewable energy at our disposal. However, the design of highly efficient solar cells is increasingly becoming crucial as there has been a surge for economically viable alternative energy sources with the lowest cost. Significant advances have been made through different routes to make photovoltaic (PV)/solar technologies economically viable, eco-friendly and consequently scalable. As a result, cellulose nanomaterials have become one of the emerging technologies in this regard because of the advantages of high-value bio-based nanostructured materials, such as their abundance and sustainability. Nanocellulose-based photoactive nanocomposite materials can be made by integrating conducting photoactive and electroconductive materials with hydrophilic biocompatible cellulose. Inorganic nanoparticles, such as graphene/reduced graphene oxide cadmium sulphide quantum dots, amongst others, can be introduced into the nanocellulose matrix and can be applied either as charge transporters or photoactive materials in different types of solar cells. Thus, in this review, we highlight the optoelectronic properties of different photoactive materials, particularly nanocellulose-based graphene nanocomposites; their efficiencies and drawbacks were X-rayed. The effect of doping each PV material on the PV performance is also discussed. It is anticipated that the novel material would result in a reduction in the cost of solar cells, jointly enhancing their efficacy in generating environmentally friendly electricity. Since the fabrication techniques and equipment play a crucial role in the development of solar cells, the fabrication techniques of bulk-heterojunction (BHJ) cells containing a nanocellulose-based graphene composite and case studies of already fabricated BHJ PV cells with nanocellulose-based graphene composite are discussed. Irrigation capability evaluation of Illushi floodplain,edo state,Nigeria

Many irrigation projects,especially in the developing tropical regions,are embarked upon without any land capability assessment,resulting in avoidable and undesirable ecological *** aim of this study is to assess the irrigation capability potentials of the soils of a rice growing Illushi/Ega community in edo state of *** of Illushi/Ega(200 ha)were studied to establish their irrigation *** samples were collected from the rivers within and near the sites at the proposed points of intake structures and analyzed for salinity(ECw),permeability(SAR)and ion toxicity[Chlorine(Cl)and Boron(B)].Gravity irrigation suitability assessment was carried out following the guidelines of the United states Bureau for Land Reclamation(USBR,1953)and FAO(1979).Results showed that about 5.5%of the land was non-irrigable,11.5%was marginally irrigable,30.5%was moderately irrigable and 52.5%highly *** about 83%of the total land area was found to be *** results of analyses of irrigation water[ECw,SAR and Cl and B(ion toxicity)problems in water sources were 0.1-0.7 dS m^(-1),1.2-1.7,0.6-1.8 cmol kg^(-1) and 0.5-0.7 mg kg^(-1)]also show that there is no indication of salinity or ion toxicity problem.

Background:Self‑medication among student nurses is the use of medicines without doctor’s *** practice is a global phenomenon and potential contributor to human resistance to most drugs,associated with different types of health *** the high knowledge on the complication of self‑medication,studies showed that most student nurses still practice self‑***:The aim of this study was to assess the reasons for increase in self‑medication and and find ways on how to curbing the menace among student nurses in the School of Nursing,university of Benin Teaching Hospital,edo state,*** and Methods:A descriptive cross‑sectional survey was conducted with stratified simple random sampling technique to select ninety student nurses from three different levels in the School of Nursing,university of Benin Teaching Hospital in Benin City,edo state.A self‑structured questionnaire with open‑type and Likert‑type scale questions used as instrument to assess the reasons for increase in self‑medication and the possible control *** collected were analyzed using tables,percentages,means,standard deviation,and t‑test for inferential statistics at 0.05 level of significance,through Statistical Package for the Social Sciences ***:The result showed the reasons for increase in self‑medication and how to reduce its *** also showed that the gender of the student nurses is statistically related to the reasons why they practice self‑medication(t=6.82,P≤0.001).Conclusion:Self‑medication can be reduced among student nurses by empowering the law enforcement agencies against self‑medication,improving the availability of essential and quality drugs in school clinics,and inclusion of all student nurses in National Health Insurance Scheme(NHIS)program,where they can enjoy the benefit of paying only 10%of the treatment charges.

Postoperative pain assessment and management among nurses in selected hospitals in Benin City,edo state,Nigeria

Objective:This study was designed to determine the nurse assessment of postoperative pain and its management in selected hospitals,Benin City,edo state,*** and Methods:A descriptive cross-sectional survey was *** target population consist of 222 purposely nurses who are in the cadre of nursing officer II to chief nursing officer who works in the various surgical wards/units of the selected health *** data were collected from the participants using the pretested structured questionnaire developed by the ***:Results showed that 66.2%of nurses had a poor level of knowledge on postoperative pain *** McGill Pain Questionnaire was the most used pain assessment tool with a mean score of 2.84 whereas the Dallas Pain Questionnaire was the least used with a mean score of 1.90.“Providing clean,calm,and well-ventilated ward environment”(3.69±0.61)was the most used nonpharmacological method for postoperative pain management,followed by“distraction,relaxation,and guided imagery”(3.52±0.50),“dressing,bandage,splint,and reinforce wound sites postoperatively”(3.39±0.54),and“early ambulation/exercise”(3.20±0.62).The most used pharmacological interventions were“acetaminophen”(3.63±0.55),“topical anesthetic”(2.92±0.62),“nonselective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs”(2.87±0.43),and“mixed opioid agonist-antagonist”(2.56±0.56).Conclusion:There is a poor level of knowledge on postoperative pain assessment among nurses in this study *** is,therefore,pertinent for hospitals to organize continuous in-service training for postoperative pain assessment and management,especially on nonpharmacological approaches among nurses.

Envelope antibody HBeIgG and HBV DNA in HBeAg-seronegative young adults in Nigeria

Study background:Anti-HBe and hepatitis B virus(HBV)DNA are important markers in evaluating HBV ***-HBe indicates past or current infection that persists after hepatitis B e antigen(HBeAg)*** anti-HBe helps identify cleared or chronic *** DNA measures viral replication,indicating infection *** these markers in HBeAg-seronegative young adults provides insights into infection dynamics,immune responses,and transmission *** informs clinical management and public health interventions for preventing HBV transmission and reducing the burden of liver *** and objectives:This cross-sectional study aimed to determine the prevalence of HBeAg seronegativity and its association with HBV infection markers among young adults in Etsako,edo state,*** and methods:The study population consisted of HBeAg-seronegative individuals aged 18 to 30 years.A total of 400 participants(200 females and 200 males)were randomly selected from urban and rural communities using a multistage sampling ***-HBe and HBeAg were analyzed by ELISA,whereas HBV DNA was evaluated by polymerase chain ***:The prevalence of HBeAg seropositivity was 28%,whereas 72%of participants were *** the HBeAg-seronegative participants,the frequencies of anti-HBe and HBV DNA were analyzed based on various categorical *** results showed no significant differences in the frequency of anti-HBe and HBV DNA based on occupation,training,or other categorical variables(P>0.05).However,there was a significantly higher proportion of males(60%)among the total number of anti-HBe-seropositive young adults compared to females(40%)(P<0.05).Additionally,a significantly higher proportion of single/unmarried individuals without children(63.3%)was observed among anti-HBe-seropositive young adults compared to those who were married(25%)and those who were single/unmarried with children(12.5%,P<0.05).Conclusion:The study find
