China＇s high-speed railway industry achieved dazzling development over the years, but not much research has been devoted to this industry from the perspeetive of competition policy. This paper focuses on the industrial organization of China＇s high-speed railway industry and the applicability of the Anti-Monopoly Law. We intend to answer the following questions：（l） Why is the high-speed railway industry not an industry of natural monopoly？ Which segments of the industry have elements of natural monopoly？（2） At the level of corporate organization, what is the legal and economic rationale behind the patterns of China＇s high-speed railway undertakings evolving from government-affiliated enterprises to special legal person enterprises and then shareholding companies？（3） The applicability of the Anti-Monopoly Law to the high-speed railway industry. Our conclusions from the perspective of competition policy are worth referencing for similar industries such as electric power, telecommunications, and water and gas supply.

In recent years,China has developed rapidly in terms of natural *** by regional economic integration,a regional natural gas market composed of neighboring provinces and cities has taken shape gradually,and it tends to grow toward the same direction in policy formulation,resource coordination,facility construction and market *** on the factors such as geographical location,economic conditions and natural gas consumption,this thesis tends to conduct a horizontal comparative analysis on the economic development conditions,natural gas consumption characteristics and natural gas pipeline network density of the three regions with obvious regional integration feature in *** according to LMDI,four core indicators,namely economic growth effect,energy intensity effect,energy structure effect,and substitution effect are *** thesis is expected to explore the contribution of different indicators to the growth of natural gas consumption in these three different *** to the results,it can be concluded that the driving factors of natural gas consumption differ greatly among *** speaking,the more developed the economy is,the greater the contribution of the energy substitution effect to natural gas consumption will be,and the contribution of the economic growth effect to natural gas consumption will be *** that the contribution of energy intensity in different regions shows slight difference,the energy structure contributes the least effect,which further explains the current differences in China’s natural gas consumption characteristics and the reasons behind.

Factors Affecting Patient Satisfaction in the UAE’s Healthcare Sector

Background: The United Arab Emirates aims to provide “world-class healthcare” to its citizens. This study aims to determine the association between overall satisfaction and various aspects of healthcare services in the United Arab Emirates on a country level. Methods: The data was collected from 5855 respondents on the affordability, quality, accessibility, and responsiveness dimensions of health care. Besides frequency tables and descriptive statistics, statistical methods, such as Principal Component Analysis and Multiple Regression, were used to reduce and model the association between dependent (overall satisfaction) and independent (affordability, quality, accessibility, and responsiveness) variables. Results: The preliminary analysis using frequency tables and descriptive clearly highlighted the uncertainty associated with affordability and responsiveness dimensions of healthcare provision in the country. Analysis of variance and t-test results indicated statistically significant differences between perceptions of the respondents based on the socio-demographic factors and other factors such as the kind of insurance held by respondents, having a designated family physician, recent medical visits in the UAE, and intention to go back to home countries for medical treatment. The findings indicated higher satisfaction levels with quality and accessibility and lower satisfaction levels with affordability and responsiveness. Recommendations are provided to address the latter two factors. Conclusion: The study identifies healthcare service provision issues in the United Arab Emirates and recommends enhancing affordability and responsiveness.

Asian Trade Integration and the Decoupling Debate of Business Cycles

＂Decoupling＂ refers to the divergence of business cycles among different countries, while ＂re-coupling＂ corresponds to the convergence or the synchronization of business cycles among different countries. The decoupling debate is popular in the field of economics, especially after global financial crisis. As trade integration increased among Asian countries, business cycle synchronization among these countries was expected to increase through trade transmission. The aim of this study is to discover whether there has been decoupling or convergence of business cycles through various trade channels. However, theoretically, increased trade can lead to business cycle synchronization either rising or falling. Inter-industry trade resulting in higher specification will induce less synchronized business cycles, while intra-industry trade could lead to increased business cycle synchronization. Thus, it is important to distinguish between intra- and inter-industry trade flows. Both correlation and dynamic factor models are utilized to study the evolution of global business cycle linkages. Results indicate that the world factor has become less important in explaining macroeconomic fluctuations from sub-period 1961-1984 to sub-period 1985-2007, while regional factors do not play an important role in explaining aggregate volatility, with the expectation of consumption. Overall, the explanatory power of country factors increases. Domestic consumption and domestic investment variances are more driven by country and idiosyncratic factors than by the world factor, contrary to the output growth fluctuations. Regional factors and country factors also play a more prominent role in explaining gross import fluctuations than in explaining gross exports. Results cast doubt on the strong forms of both the decoupling and the re-coupling hypothesis.

Increasing rural household income and reducing poverty rank among Indonesia’s top development *** rural transformation is one strategic policy framework to achieve these *** the last three decades,agricultural production has shifted from low-value food crops to high-value commodities,such as horticulture,estate crops,and *** studies have analyzed rural transformation in Indonesia at the national level,but information on the magnitudes of impact across regions remains *** study aims to analyze the changes in rural transformation at a regional level in the past two *** research utilizes secondary data from Statistics Indonesia(BPS),covering 34 provinces from 2000 to 2020,analyzed using descriptive and panel data regression *** results show an increasing trend in the share of high-value agriculture(RT_(1))and rural non-farm employment(RT_(2)).Both RT_(1)and RT_(2)are positively associated with the growth of rural household income and a lower poverty ***,the speed of structural transformation(ST),RT_(1),RT_(2),rural income growth,and poverty reduction vary across *** research implies that improving rural income and reducing poverty should be done by integrating policies,i.e.,promoting highvalue agriculture and expanding rural non-farm *** attention should also be given to provinces with slow growth in ST,RT_(1),RT_(2),and rural household income.

Determinants of Political Participation in Cote d＇Ivoire： The Case of Voting

This paper assesses electoral participation and studies the determinants of such participation, focusing on presidential elections in Cote d＇Ivoire. We use a dataset on elections in Africa and a survey financed by the European Commission and conducted by the Ivorian Center of Social and economic Research （CIRES） in 2005. We find a decline in voter turnout since 1990 for both presidential and parliamentary elections. We also find that the probability of voting varies across ethnic groups and significantly increases with education levels, interest in politics, satisfaction with democracy and satisfaction with government but decreases with insecurity during elections. Moreover, we show that there is an inverted U-shaped relationship between age and the probability of voting. This probability is higher for men than women and for workers and retirees compared to unemployed, but it is low for students. Concerning the vote choice, we find that relative to the ＂program and party＂ criterion, the probability of choosing the candidate on the basis of his individual characteristics decreases with age, insecurity, satisfaction with democracy while it increases with satisfaction with government and with secondary, university or Koran education level.

The appearance of new product varieties and improvements in the quality of goods have both played key roles in the rapid growth of China＇s exports. However, these two important elements have not been formally integrated into the demand equations for China＇s exports. As we demonstrate in this paper, income elasticity will be underestimated if new varieties of goods and quality improvements are omitted in price index and quantity index calculations, which are necessary for estimating the export demand function. Moreover, the faster new product varieties enter export markets, the greater the underestimation will be. In this paper, we develop an export demand equation that takes into account newproduct varieties and improvements in quality, and then calculate the demand function for China＇s exports using the data from 1992 to 2006. According to our estimation, the short-term income elasticity of demand for China ＂s exports is approximately 2.34, and the short-term price elasticity is approximately-0. 65. Our estimation predicts an increase in China＇s export value in the case of an RMB appreciation or export rebate rates reduction in the short term, due to the low price elasticity of China＇s exports, whose absolute value is less than 1. Our findings are novel and could have significant policy implications.

This paper considers a discrete-time queue with N-policy and LAS-DA(late arrival system with delayed access) *** using renewal process theory and probability decomposition techniques,the authors derive the recursive expressions of the queue-length distributions at epochs n^-,n^+,and ***,the authors obtain the stochastic decomposition of the queue length and the relations between the equilibrium distributions of the queue length at different epochs(n^-,n^+,n and departure epoch D_n).
