Spatiotemporal variation of land surface temperature and its driving factors in Xinjiang,China

Land surface temperature(LST) directly affects the energy balance of terrestrial surface systems and impacts regional resources, ecosystem evolution, and ecosystem structures. Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is located at the arid Northwest China and is extremely sensitive to climate change. There is an urgent need to understand the distribution patterns of LST in this area and quantitatively measure the nature and intensity of the impacts of the major driving factors from a spatial perspective, as well as elucidate the formation mechanisms. In this study, we used the MOD11C3 LST product developed on the basis of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS) to conduct regression analysis and determine the spatiotemporal variation and differentiation pattern of LST in Xinjiang from 2000 to 2020. We analyzed the driving mechanisms of spatial heterogeneity of LST in Xinjiang and the six geomorphic zones(the Altay Mountains, Junggar Basin, Tianshan Mountains, Tarim Basin, Turpan-Hami(Tuha) Basin, and Pakakuna Mountain Group) using geographical detector(Geodetector) and geographically weighted regression(GWR) models. The warming rate of LST in Xinjiang during the study period was 0.24℃/10a, and the spatial distribution pattern of LST had obvious topographic imprints, with 87.20% of the warming zone located in the Gobi desert and areas with frequent human activities, and the cooling zone mainly located in the mountainous areas. The seasonal LST in Xinjiang was at a cooling rate of 0.09℃/10a in autumn, and showed a warming trend in other seasons. Digital elevation model(DEM), latitude, wind speed, precipitation, normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI), and sunshine duration in the single-factor and interactive detections were the key factors driving the LST changes. Diffusion models, a family of generative models based on deep learning, have become increasinglyprominent in cutting-edge machine learning research. With distinguished performance in generating samples thatresemble the observed data, diffusion models are widely used in image, video, and text synthesis nowadays. Inrecent years, the concept of diffusion has been extended to time-series applications, and many powerful models havebeen developed. Considering the deficiency of a methodical summary and discourse on these models, we providethis survey as an elementary resource for new researchers in this area and to provide inspiration to motivate futureresearch. For better understanding, we include an introduction about the basics of diffusion models. Except forthis, we primarily focus on diffusion-based methods for time-series forecasting, imputation, and generation, andpresent them, separately, in three individual sections. We also compare different methods for the same applicationand highlight their connections if applicable. Finally, we conclude with the common limitation of diffusion-basedmethods and highlight potential future research directions.

Chronic administration of triclosan leads to liver fibrosis through hepcidin-ferroportin axis-mediated iron overload

Global plastic production continues to grow as the production of various plastic products greatly facilitates daily life. Plastics are highly persistent in the environment due to their recalcitrant properties, and they can adsorb other pollutants, leading to many environmental hazards and potential environmental risks that have attracted widespread scientific attention. Plastic wastes eventually reach water environments as primary (direct discharges)and secondary microplastics (broken down into many tiny particles by light, heat, mechanical impacts, and other factors), i.e., plastic particles with a particle size of 1μm to 5 mm [1].

Temporal variability of global potential water erosion based on an improved USLE model

Assessing spatiotemporal variation in global soil erosion is essential for identifying areas that require greater attention and management under the effects of anthropogenic activities and climate *** erosion can be modelled using the universal soil loss equation(USLE),which includes rainfall erosivity(R-factor),vegetation cover(C-factor),topography(LS-factor),soil erodibility(K-factor),and management practices(P-factor).However,global soil erosion modeling faces numerous challenges,including data acquisition,calculation processes,and parameter calibration under different climatic and topographic ***,we presented an improved USLE-based model using highly distributed *** R-,C-,and P-factors were modified by the climate zone,country,and *** distributed model was applied to estimate the intensity and variations in global soil erosion from 1992 to *** validated the accuracy of this model by comparing simulations with measurements from 11,439 plot years of erosion *** results showed that i)the average global erosion rate was 5.78 t ha^(-1)year^(-1),with an increase rate of 4.26×10^(-3)t ha^(-1)year^(-1);ii)areas with significantly increasing erosion accounted for 16%of the land with water erosion,whereas those with significantly decreasing erosion accounted for 7%;and iii)areas with severe erosion included the western Ghats,Abyssinian Plateau,Brazilian Plateau,south and east of the Himalayas,and western coast of South *** erosion occurred mainly on the Amazon Plain and the northern coast of the *** study provides an improved water erosion prediction model and accurate information for researchers and policymakers to identify the drivers underlying changes in water erosion in different regions.

Conductive and stable polyphenylene/CNT composite membrane for electrically enhanced membrane fouling mitigation

Nanocarbon-based conductive membranes, especially carbon nanotube (CNT)-based membranes, have tremendous potential for wastewater treatment and water purification because of their excellent water permeability and selectivity, as well as their electrochemically enhanced performance (e.g., improved antifouling ability). However, it remains challenging to prepare CNT membranes with high structural stability and high electrical conductivity. In this study, a highly electroconductive and structurally stable polyphenylene/CNT (PP/CNT) composite membrane was prepared by electropolymerizing biphenyl on a CNT hollow fiber membrane. The PP/CNT membrane showed 3.4 and 5.0 times higher electrical conductivity than pure CNT and poly(vinyl alcohol)/CNT (PVA/CNT) membranes, respectively. The structural stability of the membrane was superior to that of the pure CNT membrane and comparable to that of the PVA/CNT membrane. The membrane fouling was significantly alleviated under an electrical assistance of −2.0 V, with a flux loss of only 11.7% after 5 h filtration of humic acid, which is significantly lower than those of PP/CNT membranes without electro-assistance (56.8%) and commercial polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes (64.1%). Additionally, the rejection of negatively charged pollutants (humic acid and sodium alginate) was improved by the enhanced electrostatic repulsion. After four consecutive filtration-cleaning cycle tests, the flux recovery rate after backwashing reached 97.2%, which was much higher than those of electricity-free PP/CNT membranes (67.0%) and commercial PVDF membranes (61.1%). This study offers insights into the preparation of stable conductive membranes for membrane fouling control in potential water treatment applications.

Plant life form determines spatiotemporal variability and climate response of plant seed rain in subtropical forests

Spatiotemporal variation of seed rain reflects the response of plants in terms of their reproductive strategy to environmental *** this study,we collected seeds from four sites in the Dalaoling Nature Reserve,Hubei Province,China,between 2011 and 2014,measured seed output and seed mass as seed rain traits,and compared their interannual and elevational ***,we ran phylogenetic generalized mixed linear models(PGLMMs) to explore the effects of temperature and precipitation as well as interspecific differences on seed rain,and fitted the best regression models for seed rain *** of canopy and understory *** results showed no correlation between values of seed output and seed ***,the variation of the two traits showed significantly positive *** output of canopy species generally decreased with increasing elevation,and showed significant interannual difference;however,seed output of understory species and seed mass for both canopy and understory species did not show consistency tends along elevational or in interannual *** output was significantly affected by temperature and precipitation,while seed mass mainly varied due to interspecific *** explained more the variation of the seed output of canopy species than that of understory species,with R^(2) values of 43.0%and 29.9%,*** results suggested that canopy plants contributed more to the reproductive dynamics of the whole communities,and the canopy's buffer effect on the underground weakened the response of understory plants to weather variation in terms of their reproductive strategy.

Light grazing alleviates aeolian erosion–deposition effects on microbial communities in a semi-arid grassland

Background Soil erosion affects the stability of terrestrial ecosystems and ecosystem services by directly or indirectly impacting the cycling of soil materials and energy and reducing the fertility of grassland soils. However, research on microbial adaptation to grazing and soil erosion is limited, particularly in relation to grassland ecosystem restora-tion. Here, we assess microbial communities subjected to simulated soil erosion and grazing in a semi-arid grassland of Inner Mongolia, *** No significant change was observed in soil variables. However, the structure of the soil microbial commu-nity underwent significant changes as a result of soil erosion and soil erosion plus grazing, leading to a significant increase in the relative abundance of Cyanobacteria(116.80% vs 116.38%). Wind erosion and deposition contributed to an increase in the network complexity of soil bacterial and fungal communities. However, much of this effect was alleviated by grazing. Simultaneously, aeolian processes and grazing regulate soil microbial community assembly, leading to inconsistent patterns of change in bacterial and fungal communities. Under wind erosion and deposi-tion, the relative contribution of deterministic processes(4.44% vs 31.11%) in bacterial communities increased, while the relative contribution of stochastic processes(2.23% vs 20%) in fungal communities reduced. Grazing resulted in a decrease in the relative contribution of deterministic processes(8.89%) in the bacterial community and an increase in the relative contribution of stochastic processes(8.89%) in the fungal *** This study presents a comprehensive investigation of the response of soil microbial communities to aeolian erosion–deposition and grazing in a semi-arid grassland.
