The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of baobab seed washing and origin on the chemical composition of the oil extracted by pressing. Six (6) oil samples were obtained from seeds of three (3) geographical origins. The identification and quantification of fatty acids and the polyphenolic profile were carried out by gC-MS and HPlC-UV, respectively. Analysis of fatty acid methyl esters allowed the identification and quantification of 18 fatty acids. Oils from unwashed seeds were richer in palmitic (C16:0), stearic (C18:0), oleic (C18:1) and arachidic (C20:0) acids. In addition, HPlC-UV analysis at 279 nm shows that oils from unwashed seeds are richer in tyrosol, hydroxytyrosol and caffeic acid. With regard to the polyphenolic profile, gallic acid and quercetin were not detected in these baobab oils. Principal component analysis of fatty acid and phenolic compound content showed that oils from unwashed seeds would best preserve their chemical and associated potential bioactive characteristics.

Biosorption of mercury by Macrocystis pyrifera and Undaria pinnatifida:Influence of zinc,cadmium and nickel

This study investigated the adsorption of Hg（Ⅱ） on Macrocystis pyrifera and Undaria pinnatifida in monometallic system in the presence of Zn（II）,Cd（Ⅱ） and Ni（II）.The two biosorbents reached the same maximum sorption capacity （q m = 0.8 mmol/g） for *** showed a greater affinity （given by the coefficient b of the langmuir equation） for mercury compared to *** （4.4 versus 2.7 l/mmol）.Mercury uptake was significantly reduced （by more than 50%） in the presence of competitor heavy metals such as Zn（II）,Cd（II） and Ni（Ⅱ）.Samples analysis using an environmental scanning electron microscopy equipped with an energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis showed that mercury was heterogeneously adsorbed on the surface of both biomaterials,while the other heavy metals were homogeneous *** analysis of biosorbents by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry indicated that Hg（Ⅱ） binding occurred on S=O （sulfonate） and N-H （amine） functional groups.

A complementary approach using liquid Chromatographic-Mass Spectrometric analysis was proposed to characterize phenolic compounds from the methanol-water extracts of *** *** High Performance liquid Chromatography(HPlC)complementary methods were used for the determination of phenolic compounds from the bark,sapwood and heartwood of *** employed involved direct analysis after filtration at 0.20μm,using a RP C18 column and UV-VIS/ESI-FTMS *** methods used were different by their elution gradient and allowed analyzing the chemical composition of three parts of African mahogany *** this study,22 phenolic compounds and derivatives from *** were separated,determined or tentatively characterized for the first time based on their methanol/water/formic acid extract mass *** difference of gradients eluted various compounds,8 were obtained with the first method and 14 with the second *** main products were hydroxybenzoic acid and derivatives,resorcinol,esterified compounds,mannitol,quercetin and derivatives,dihydroxyflavan,and trihydroxyflavan.

Influence of Types of Fillers on Workability, Bleeding, Compressive Strength, and degree of Compaction of Hydraulic Concrete

This study aims to determine the optimal quantity of fillers to add to hydraulic concrete and to assess the influence of these fillers on its rheological characteristics and mechanical properties. The characterization of the aggregates shows that they meet the specifications for the formulation of hydraulic concrete according to the Dreux-gorisse method. Normalizing the formula to the cubic meter enables to define the standard concrete. The cement content is 350 kg/msup>3sup>. The mineral materials added to the concrete to increase its characteristics and properties are limestone, basalt, and sandstone fillers with a weight percent of 4%, 5%, and 3% respectively. Changes in concrete properties with the addition of fillers were determined through geotechnical tests. The results obtained show a decrease in the workability measured by slump test which returned 7.8 cm for the standard concrete sample, 7.2 cm with 5% of basalt, 7.3 cm with 4% of limestone, and 6.1 cm with 3% of sandstone. Regarding the bleeding, the results show that it decreases leading to a substantial improvement in stabilization reaching 26% with 5% of basalt fillers, 29% with 4% of limestone fillers, and 31% with 3% of sandstone fillers. The compressive strengths noted Rc28 at 28 days increases compared to that of the standard concrete, which is 31.5 MPa. They increase to 34.3 MPa with 5% of basalt fillers being 8.9%, 36.2 MPa with 4% of limestone fillers being 14.9%, and 36.8 MPa with 3% of sandstone fillers being 16.8%. Finally, the addition of fillers increases the degree of compaction values to 83.62% with 5% of basalt fillers, 84.2% with 4% of limestone fillers, and 84.34% with 3% of sandstone fillers.

Characterization of Fired Clay Bricks for an Economic Contribution of the Exploitation of Thicky Clay deposit

Clay materials from Thicky in Thiès district (Senegal) are very abundant and could be used for the production of clay brick for the construction industry in Senegal and the surrounding countries. The geophysical, geotechnical, and thermal studies carried out did lead to a better comprehension of the potential of the area for clay production. It also allowed determining the physical and chemical characteristics of the clays for their use in order to make fired clay bricks. Different types of fired clay brick were produced with Thicky’s clays. The study of the physical, mechanical and thermal parameters of these raw materials and bricks has given very satisfactory results compared to the standards in use. It is noted a good ceramic behavior, and there is no deterioration observed after firing at 900°C until low residual moisture of about 3% (on a dry basis), a smooth texture with a beautiful appearance, a low loss on ignition, a low shrinkage value of less than 1% (dry), moderate water absorption and also good compressive strength. The study of thermal properties on a brick wall by the asymmetric lime plane method gives satisfactory effusivity and thermal conductivity values which are respectively equal to 746.48 J·Ksup>-1sup>·msup>-2sup>·ssup>-1/2sup> and 0.42 W·msup>-1sup>·ksup>-1sup> with a thermal resistance of 0.0028 msup>2sup>·K·Wsup>-1sup>.

limestones of different facies in the Senegal basin are most commonly used as aggregates, regardless of their petrographic properties. These differences may influence their behaviour. The aim of this paper is to study the stratigraphy and characterise the limestones of the Bandia and Popenguine quarries. Sampling and geochemical and geotechnical characterisation were carried out on these limestones. The results show the presence of several very different facies in the Paleocene formation. The geochemical study shows that the Bandia limestones (Bd2) have the highest CaCO3 percentages (98.54%) and the highest SiO2 percentages were recorded in the Popenguine limestones (Pop2). The study also gives Mde values of 22.38 and la of 22, which are acceptable for use in road construction. It is important to carry out a complete study in order to select the right materials for optimal use.

Bioko Island（3008 m a.s.l） is located in the presently more active volcanic zone of the Cameroon line and composed essentially of alkaline basalts and hawaiites, and lesser mugearites. The rocks show microlitic porphyritic texture with phenocrysts of olivine（83% 〈 Fo 〈 87%） and clinopyroxene in a matrix of plagioclase, clinopyroxene and oxides. Hawaiites and mugearites also include phenocrysts of plagioclase（An62-67Ab35-32Or3-1）. Major element variation diagrams show an increase in Si O2, Al2O3, Na2 O and K2 O with increasing Mg O for the studied rock groups. The rocks are characterized by low（^86Sr/^87Sr）i ratios（0.70320e0.70406）, high 3Nd（t） values（2.56e4.33） and high（^206Pb/^204Pb）i ratios（20.032e20.035） *** are enriched in lIlE and lREE, and have（Hf/Sm）N= 0.57e1.16. These geochemical signatures are similar to those of the Mount Cameroon rocks, and might be attributed to low degrees of partial melting from a garnet-amphibole-bearing mantle source. The trace elements and isotopic compositions suggest that the parental magma source might have involved HIMU- and EM1-components.

Spinel-Bearing lherzolite Xenoliths from Hossere garba(likok,Adamawa-Cameroon):Mineral Compositions and geothermobarometric Implications

Spinel-bearing lherzolite xenoliths from the Hossere garba (1272 m.a.s.l) volcano on the Adamawa Plateau, is located in likok village, at about 35 km to WSW of Ngaoundere. These xenoliths (~11 cm size) have been sampled into the host basaltic lava flows from the NE flank of the Hossere garba volcano. These xenoliths characterized by porphyroclastic texture consisted of olivine (~55 vol.%), orthopyroxene (~19 vol.%) and clinopyroxene (~21 vol.%) crystals. Spinel crystals (~5 vol.%) are red brown and interstitial between the crystals of olivine and pyroxenes. CaO contents are low (livine and similar to those estimated (CaO: 0.05 - 0.1 wt%) for the mantle origin. The values of AlVI/AlIV ratio range between 1.1 and 1.3 for the Cr-diopside crystals from Hossere garba xenoliths. The constant value of the volumes V(Cell) and V(M1) for clinopyroxene compositions, indicates the similar pressures. Hossere garba represents a residual sequence issued from partial melting of a mantle source. Similar compositions have been recorded in minerals of ultramafic xenoliths from other ultramafic xenoliths domains of the Cameroon line and the Adamawa Plateau.

geogenic lead (Pb) is considered to be less bioavailable than anthropogenic Pb and exerts less effect on the soil fauna. However,Pb contamination in vegetables has been reported in the case of geogenic anomalies, even at moderate concentrations (around 170 mgkg^(-1)). In this study, we investigated collembolan communities using both taxonomic- and trait-based approaches and observed fungal communities to assess the effects of a moderate geogenic Pb anomaly on collembolans and fungi in an urban vegetable garden *** indicated that geogenic Pb indeed modified fungi communities and altered the functional structure of collembolan communities in garden soils. Although geogenic Pb presented low bioavailability, it affected soil fauna and vegetables similar to anthropogenic Pb.

This study, carried out in the léo square degree (west-central Burkina Faso) in the Palaeoproterozoic domain of the Man/léo ridge, aims to define the shapes and positions of granitic plutons and the organisation of deformation structures using aeromagnetic data. These data have shown that there are small sub-circular granitic bodies to the north of the granitic masses in this region, and a large sub-circular granitic body to the south, around which are other smaller granitic bodies. The lineament map shows that the deformation structures are organised along three main directions and largely form these sub-circular plutonic bodies. We suggest that the granitic plutons are coalescent, pending identification of the internal structures of these granites to further refine the geodynamic model.
