The blue swimming crab,Portunus pelagicus(Linnaeus,1758),is one of the most economically important crustaceans in *** order to gather more in-country data on its biological aspects,a comprehensive observation of the annual reproductive cycle of female ***,which were gathered each month from Kung Krabaen Bay,thailand,from October 2017 to September 2018 was *** ovarian structure,gonadosomatic index(GSI)and histological description of *** were observed during this *** was revealed that six distinct stages—I(immature stage),II(early maturing stage),III(late maturing stage),IV(early matured stage),V(middle matured stage)and VI(late matured stage)—occur during the annual reproductive cycle of the ***,the percentage of the oogenic proportion of *** appeared continuously throughout the *** ovarian development was exclusively found in stage VI,during October 2017 to December 2017,with the highest peak in November 2017(39.96%)in relation to the high *** October 2017 to February 2018,stage I was also observed,especially during October 2017(49.5%),implying its important involvement in supporting oogenic *** would be suggested that the successive spawning season of the *** population clearly occurred during October-December each ***,this would be the best time to support hatchery seed production,during which *** collection should be avoided.

Clay mineral composition represents an important tracer of sediment source area,migration processes,and paleoclimatic *** mineral analysis was performed on 15 surface sediment samples collected from the coast of Chanthaburi,*** show that the composition of clay minerals in the study area differs substantially from that in surrounding regions of the gulf of *** clay minerals of the Chanthaburi coast are dominated by kaolinite(~56%),followed by smectite(~21%),illite(~14%),and low concentrations of chlorite(~8%).The average illite chemistry index and crystallinity are 0.93 and 0.32,*** analysis of the clay mineral composition of surface sediments in several typical areas around the gulf of thailand indicated that the clays of the Chanthaburi coast are mainly derived from parent rock weathering in the small watersheds of the Chanthaburi and Welu rivers and the surrounding *** input from the northern coast of the gulf of thailand(excluding the Mekong River)was previously considered negligible;however,the present results indicate that such input has impact on the eastern gulf of *** warm humid climatic conditions in Southeast Asia are the primary factors that affect the strong chemical weathering in the study area,followed by the nature of the parent rock.

The currently recognized Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin occurs in estuaries and surrounding shallow waters from the South China Sea to the Asian coast of the Indian ***,a recent study suggested that the humpback dolphin from the Bay of Bengal may represent a distinct phylogenetic *** this study,we sequenced 915-bp mtDNA segments from five geographic populations in both Chinese and Thai waters;together with previously published sequences,these data revealed that the ancestral Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin might have split during the transition from the Oligocene to Miocene(23.45 Mya,95%HPD:16.65–26.55 Mya),and then dispersed along the Pacific and Indian Ocean coasts of *** differentiation was detected between most of the examined populations,except for only a few pairwise populations in the northern South China *** differentiation/distance between the humpback dolphins from the northern and southern South China Sea met the sub-species threshold value proposed for marine mammals,whereas that between the humpback dolphins in the Pacific and the Indian Ocean was above the species *** inference of historic gene flow indicated low but constant northward gene flow along the Indian Ocean coast;however,there was a recent abrupt increase in gene flow in the Pacific region,likely due to the shortening coastline at the low stand of sea *** results revealed that the current taxonomic classification of Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins may not reflect their phylogeography.

The influences of tropical cyclone paths and shelf bathymetry on the inducement of extreme sea levels in a regional bay are investigated. A finite volume coastal ocean model(FVCOM) has been configured for the gulf of thailand-Sunda Shelf. A parametric wind model is used to drive the FVCOM. The contributions of the tropical cyclone characteristics are determined through a scenario-based study. Validation based on a historical extreme sea level event shows that the model can resolve the oscillation mechanism well. The intensification of severe storm surges in the region highly depends on four factors including phase propagation of the storm surge wave determined by the landfall position, funnel effect caused by locality of the coastline, and shelf bathymetry determined by the state of mean sea level and coastline crossing angle of the storm path. The coexistence of these factors can cause particular regions e.g. the Surat Thani Bay, inner gulf of thailand and Ca Mau Peninsular to experience a larger surge magnitude. These areas are found to be highly related to monsoon troughs that develop during the onset and early northeastern monsoon season(October–November).

Based on the Princeton Ocean Model （POM）, the seasonal thermohaline feature and the ocean circulation in the gulf of thailand （GOT）, situated between 6°N to 14°N latitude and 99°E to 105°E longitude, were studied numerically with 37 × 97 orthogonal curvilinear grid and 10 vertical sigma levels conforming to a realistic bottom topography. A spin-up phase of the first model run was executed using wind stress calculated from climatological monthly mean wind, restoring-type surface heat and salt, and climatological monthly mean fresh water flux data. In this paper, the temperature and salinity fields taken from Levitus94 data sets and the calculated temperature and salinity from the model run for 12-month mean and for each season are presented where the winter, summer, rainy, and end of the rainy seasons of thailand are represented by the months January, April, July, and October, respectively. The simulated circulations are also described. The results show that the temperature in the GoT is warmer than the temperature of the other parts connected to the South China Sea （SCS）. At any depth of inflow from SCS into the GoT, the salinity is high, but in the outflow from the GoT at the surface, the salinity is low. The strong circulations are clockwise during summer and the rainy seasons of thailand, which are the East Asian monsoon periods, northeasterly and southwesterly during summer. They occur near Pattani and Narathiwat provinces during summer and in the central GoT during the rainy seasons. Sensitivity experiments were designed to investigate the effects of wind forcing and open boundary conditions. Wind forcing is shown to be the important factor for generating the circulation in the GoT. The lateral velocity at the open boundaries is of considerable importance to current circulation for the rainy and end of the rainy seasons, with insignificant effect for the winter and summer seasons of thailand.

Background: Roost-site quality can significantly affect the individual fitness of shorebirds, but roost sites remain poorly described for many threatened species on the East Asian–Australasian Flyway. We studied roost-site selection of the globally endangered Spotted Greenshank (Tringa guttifer) in the Inner gulf of thailand, an area which supports approximately 24% of their global wintering population, during two non-breeding seasons (October 2014–May 2015 and December 2015–February 2016). Methods: We measured nine variables associated with roost site characteristics including water depth, indicators of disturbance/predation risk, and associations with other shorebird species. We predicted that roost ponds with shallow water in proximity to foraging sites would receive higher usage than those further away. Results: A total of 94 sites were measured of which 46 were used for roosts with 23 used repeatedly. All used sites were human-modified ponds, of which 44 were used for salt farming and two used for aquaculture. Roosts were on average 1.10 ± 0.78 (SE) km from foraging sites and 5.8 ± 2.4 cm deep. The most supported model indicated that roost sites were negatively associated with distance to foraging sites and positively associated with the presence of Grey Plover (Pluvialis squatarola) and water depth. Conclusions: Traditional saltpans and other artificial wetlands near (gulf of thailand for this Spotted Greenshank population and perhaps seven other globally threatened or near-threatened species. Critically, all observed roost sites are on private land with no formal protection and thus will require creative public–private partnerships to manage sustainably.

A finite element method for analysis of pollutant dispersion in shallow water is presented. The analysis is divided into two parts ：（ 1 ） computation of the velocity flow field and water surface elevation, and （2） computation of the pollutant concentration field from the dispersion model. The method was combined with an adaptive meshing technique to increase the solution accuracy, as well as to reduce the computational time and computer memory. The finite element formulation and the computer programs were validated by several examples that have known solutions. In addition, the capability of the combined method was demonstrated by analyzing pollutant dispersion in Chao Phraya River near the gulf of thailand.
