A metagenomic library recombinant clone CAPL3, an Escherichia coli strain generated by transformed with metagenomic library from deep-sea sediments, can efficiently produce cold active lipase. The effects of both temperature and dissolved oxygen（DO） on cold active lipase production by batch culture of metagenomic library recombinant clone（CAPL3） from deep-sea sediment were investigated. First, a two-stage temperature control strategy was developed, in which the temperature was kept at 34 ℃ for the first 15 h, and then switched to30 ℃. The cold active lipase activity and productivity reached 315.2 U·ml^-1and 8.08 U·ml^-1·h^-1, respectively,increased by both 14.5% compared to the results obtained with temperature controlled at 30℃. In addition, different DO control modes were conducted, based on the data obtained from the different DO control strategies and analysis of kinetics parameters at different DO levels. A step-wise temperature and DO control strategy were developed to improve lipase production, i.e., temperature and DO level were controlled at 34℃, 30% during 0–15 h;30 ℃, 30% during 15–18 h, and 30 ℃, 20% during 18–39 h. With this strategy, the maximum lipase activity reached 354.6 U·ml^-1at 39 h, which was 28.8% higher than that achieved without temperature and DO control（275.3 U·ml^-1）.

In order to study whether the random events set can be used in Rudongbank of Nantong or not, we use ADCIRC model to stimulate the storm surge affectingRudong bank based on random events set. Then we use p-III curve to fit peak-value ofsurge of all the years to get the surge of typical return periods. The result shows that theresults of fitting by ADCIRC and by historical data coincide well in lower return periods,but to higher return periods, the results of fitting by ADCIRC are significantly higher thanthat of fitting by historical data. Due to the short time, it’s not enough for the extremestorm surge events to occur, the results of higher return periods are not reliable, so wecan’t rule out the reasonability of results based on random events set. The results offitting based on random events set are accurate in lower return periods and we can alsofully estimate the surge of higher return periods based on random events set. In thesituation of lacking historical data of hundreds of years, random events set can beaccepted as a tool to compute the return period of storm surge. Consideration of globalwarming, the possibility of super typhoons’ appearance will rise, which will result inhigher surge of return periods. In order to prevent the disaster of storm surge, thegovernment needs to deepen and reinforce the coastal engineering like seawalls and embankments.

The adjoint method is presented which could be used to estimate the time-varying contamination concentration(CC) from pollution source(PS). Then the pollutant flux is calculated. In order to guarantee the continuity of pollutant distribution and make the calculated results more accurate, the independent point(IP) scheme is proposed. The contamination concentrations(CCs) at some time steps are selected as the independent points(IPs), and only CCs at these IPs are optimized while CCs at other points are calculated through linear interpolation of the independent CCs. In twin numerical experiments, all the given distributions are successfully inverted with the adjoint method. The cost functions and the mean absolute errors(MAEs) in concentrations and pollutant fluxes decrease greatly after assimilation, and the cost functions are reduced by about 5 orders of magnitude compared with their initial values. The results indicate that the adjoint method is computationally efficient to recover CCs from PS. It is easier to invert the given distribution which is less complex. The inversion efficiency with IP scheme is raised compared to that without this scheme. The IP scheme is significant for the inversion result, in which appropriate IP number could yield better inversion results. More work will be done to apply this method to real experiment.

We used data from bottom trawl surveys to study the factors influencing the abundance of small yellow croaker, Larimichthys polyactis, in the southern Yellow sea （SYS） and the east china sea （ECS）. The resource density index （RD1） was generally higher in summer and autumn than in spring and winter. RDIs were also significantly greater in the SYS than in the ECS in summer and autumn. The bottom water salinity and depth of spatial distribution of small yellow croaker was similar between the two areas in summer, but different in other seasons. Regression analysis suggested that environmental factors such as bottom water temperature, salinity, and depth influenced the RDIs in summer in these areas. Growth condition factor （GCF） in the two areas varied monthly and the croaker in the SYS grew more slowly than those in the ECS. This was likely due to the low bottom temperature of the Yellow sea Cold Water Mass in summer and autumn or to higher human fishing pressure in the ECS. To ensure sustainable utilization of the croaker stocks in these regions, we recommend reducing the fishing intensity, increasing the cod-end mesh size, and improving the protection of juveniles.

We investigated the distribution of four enzymes involved in the immune response of Apostichopus japonicus. We collected samples of the tentacles, papillate podium, integument, respiratory tree, and digestive tract and stained them for acid phosphatase （ACP）, alkaline phosphatase （AKP）, non-specific esterase （NSE） and peroxidase （POD） activity. The distribution and content of ACE AKP, NSE, and POD differed among the tissues. The coelomic epithelium of the tentacle, papillate podium, and integument and the mucous layer of respiratory tree were positive for ACP activity. The coelomic epithelium and cuticular layer of the tentacle, papillate podium, and integument and the mucous layer and tunica externa of the respiratory tree and digestive tract stained positive or weakly positive for AKP activity. Almost all the epithelial tissues stained positive, strongly positive, or very strongly positive for NSE activity. The cuticular layer of the tentacle and integument and the mucous layer, tunica submucosa, and tunica externa of the respiratory tree and digestive tract stained positive for POD activity. We hypothesize that these enzymes play a role in the immune response in A. japonicus.

seagrass research in china is still in its infancy. Even though there has been progress recently, there is still a great deal of research needed to gain a better understanding of seagrass. In this article we review and discuss the advances in seagrass research in china from two aspects: (1) seagrass species and their distribution; (2) seagrass research in china, including studies on their taxonomy, ecology, photosynthesis, applications in aquaculture, salt-tolerance mechanisms and other research topics. A total of 18 seagrass species belonging to 8 genera are distributed in nine provinces and regions in china (including Hong Kong and Taiwan), as well as the Xisha and Nansha Archipelagos. They can be divided into two groups: a North china Group and a South china Group. Based on the seagrass distribution, the Chinese mainland coast can be divided into three sections: North china seagrass Coast, Middle china seagrass Coast, and South china seagrass Coast. Ecological studies include research on seagrass communities, nutrient cycling in seagrass ecosystems, genetic diversity, pollution ecology and research in the key regions of Shandong, Guangdong, Guangxi, and Hainan. seagrass species and their locations, community structure, ecological evaluation, epiphytes, ecological functions and threats in the key regions are also summarized. Other studies have focused on remote sensing of seagrass, threatened seagrass species of china, and pollen morphology of Halophila ovalis.

Characterization of longshore currents in southern east china sea during summer and autumn

Current characteristics and vertical variations during summer and autumn in the southern east china sea were investigated by measuring current profile, tide, wind, and wave data for 90 d from July 28 to October 25, 2015. Our results are:(1) The current was mainly a(clockwise) rotating flow, displaying reciprocating flow characteristics,and vertically the current directions were the same throughout the vertical profile.(2) The horizontal current speed was strongest during August(summer) with an average speed of 51.8 cm/s. The average current speeds during spring tides were highest in August and weakest in September, with speeds of 59.9 and 42.8 cm/s,respectively.(3) Considerable differences exist in average current speeds in different layers and seasons. The highest average current speeds were found in the middle–upper layers in August and in the middle–lower layers in September and October.(4) The residual current speed was highest in August, when the speed was 12.5–47.1 cm/s,whereas the vertical average current speed was 34.3 cm/s. The depth-averaged residual current speeds in September and October were only 50% of that in August, and the residual current direction gradually rotated in a counter-clockwise direction from the lower to surface layers.(5) Typhoon waves had a significant influence on the currents, and even affected the middle and lower water layers at depths of >70.0 m. Our results showed that the currents are controlled by the dynamic interplay of the Taiwan Warm Current, incursion of the Kuroshio Current onto the continental shelf, and monsoonal changes.

Wind and wave data are essential in climatological and engineering design *** this study,data from 15 buoys located throughout the South china sea(SCS)were used to evaluate the ERA5 wind and wave *** assessment are beneficial for gaining insight into the reliability of the ERA5 data in the *** bias range between the ERA5 and observed wind-speed data was-0.78-0.99 m/*** result indicates that,while the ERA5 wind-speed data underestimation was dominate,the overestimation of such data existed as ***,the ERA5 data underestimated annual maximum wind-speed by up to 38%,with a correlation coefficient>*** bias between the ERA5 and observed significant wave height(SWH)data varied from-0.24 to 0.28 *** the ERA5 data showed positive SWH bias,which implied a general underestimation at all locations,except those in the Beibu Gulf and centralwestern SCS,where overestimation was *** extreme conditions,annual maximum SWH in the ERA5 data was underestimated by up to 30%.The correlation coefficients between the ERA5 and observed SWH data at all locations were greater than 0.92,except in the central-western SCS(0.84).The bias between the ERA5 and observed mean wave period(MWP)data varied from-0.74 to 0.57 *** ERA5 data showed negative MWP biases implying a general overestimation at all locations,except for B1(the Beibu Gulf)and B7(the northeastern SCS),where underestimation was *** correlation coefficient between the ERA5 and observed MWP data in the Beibu Gulf was the smallest(0.56),and those of other locations fluctuated within a narrow range from 0.82 to *** intercomparison indicates that during the analyzed time-span,the ERA5 data generally underestimated wind-speed and SWH,but overestimated *** non-extreme conditions,the ERA5 wind-speed and SWH data can be used with confidence in most regions of the SCS,except in the central-western SCS.

sea level rise is a slow-onset *** collected information about the natural and ecological environments,tides and sea levels,and socio-economic aspects to investigate the distribution and zoning of the risks from sea level rise across Shandong *** trends in sea level in different counties of Shandong Province were predicted using moving averages and a random dynamic analysis forecasting model,and the model outputs and socio-economic indicators were combined to assess the *** results show that the risks of sea level rise along the western coast of Bohai Bay and Laizhou Bay in Shandong Province were sufficiently large to warrant attention.

The climate modulation on the sea surface height （SSH） in china seas is investigated using a china Ocean Reanalysis （CORA） dataset from 1958-2008. The dataset is constructed by assimilating the temperature/salinity profiles derived from the satellite altimetry data and historical observational temperature/salinity profiles. Based on the Empirical Orthogonal Function （EOF）, the CORA sea surface height anomaly （SSHa） is decomposed, and the interannual and decadal variability of the first three leading modes are analyzed. On the interannual timescale, the first principal component （PC1） is significant positively correlated with the E1 Nifio/Southern Oscillation （ENSO）. On the decadal timescale, North Pacific Gyre Oscillation （NPGO） has significant negative correlation with PC 1 whereas Pacific Decadal Oscillation （PDO） is in phase with PC3. Analysis shows that the decadal variability of SSH is mainly modulated by the wind stress curl variability related to the NPGO and PDO. In addition, the effect of net heat flux associated to the NPGO and PDO on SSH is also investigated, with net heat flux variability in the Luzon strait and tropic Pacific found to influence the decadal variability of SSH.
