The Early Mesozoic NE-SW Extensional Model and Exhumation Processes at the Southeastern Margin of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt: Insights from the Strain and Kinematic Vorticity Analysis of the Sonid Zuoqi Ductile Detachment Zone

The Sonid Zuoqi ductile detachment zone is located at the southeastern margin of the Central Asian orogenic belt (CAOB), striking EW and dipping to the S. The major rock type of the Sonid Zuoqi ductile detachment zone is mylonite derived from granite. The sequence of mylonite features is: (1) S and C foliations of mylonite, and (2) extensional crenulation cleavage (ecc) or C and the kinematic vorticity (Wk) value changed from 0.70 to 0.95 and from 0.37 to 0.69, respectively; the strain type of the mylonites within the Sonid Zuoqi ductile detachment zone is compressional to planar strain. The strong deformation mylonite and Halatu plutons yielded a zircon U-Pb age of 244 Ma and a zircon (U-Th)/He age of 214 Ma, respectively. Based on the strain and kinematic vorticity analysis, together with the zircon U-Pb and zircon (U-Th)/He ages and the regional tectonic background, the study area experienced three stage evolution: tangential simple-shear (244 Ma), simple-shear-dominated general shear represented by upper crustal extension (224 Ma) and pure-shear-dominated general shear represented by the Halatu pluton doming (214 Ma), which constrained the early Mesozoic NE-SW crustal extension at the southeastern margin of the CAOB. This NE-SW extension probably originated from the post-orogenic extensional collapse of the CAOB, subsequent exhumation being controlled by the far afield effects of the closure of the Mongol-Okhotsk belt.

Moments of inertia of triaxial nuclei in covariant density functional theory

The covariant density functional theory (CDFT) and five-dimensional collective Hamiltonian (5DCH) are used to analyze the experimental deformation parameters and moments of inertia (MoIs) of 12 triaxial nuclei as extracted by Allmond and Wood [J. M. Allmond and J. L. Wood, Phys. Lett. B 767, 226 (2017)]. We find that the CDFT MoIs are generally smaller than the experimental values but exhibit qualitative consistency with the irrotational flow and experimental data for the relative MoIs, indicating that the intermediate axis exhibites the largest MoI. Additionally, it is found that the pairing interaction collapse could result in nuclei behaving as a rigid-body flow, as exhibited in the 186-192 Os case. Furthermore, by incorporating enhanced CDFT MoIs (factor of f approximate to 1.55\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}$$f\approx 1.55$$\end{document}) into the 5DCH, the experimental low-lying energy spectra and deformation parameters are reproduced successfully. Compared with both CDFT and the triaxial rotor model, the 5DCH demonstrates superior agreement with the experimental deformation parameters and low-lying energy spectra, respectively, emphasizing the importance of considering shape fluctuations.

A salt-induced tackifying polymer for enhancing oil recovery in high salinity reservoirs: Synthesis, evaluation, and mechanism

Polymer flooding is an effective method widely applied for enhancing oil recovery (EOR) by reducing the mobility ratio between the injected water and crude oil. However, traditional polymers encounter challenges in high salinity reservoirs due to their salt sensitivity. To overcome this challenge, we synthesized a zwitterion polymer (PAMNS) with salt-induced tackifying property through copolymerization of acrylamide and a zwitterion monomer, methylacrylamide propyl-N, N-dimethylbutylsulfonate (NS). NS monomer is obtained from the reaction between 1,4-butanesultone and dimethylamino propyl methylacrylamide. In this study, the rheological properties, salt responsiveness, and EOR efficiency of PAMNS were evaluated. Results demonstrate that PAMNS exhibits desirable salt-induced tackifying characteristics, with viscosity increasing up to 2.4 times as the NaCl concentration reaches a salinity of 30 x 10(4) mg L-1. Furthermore, high valence ions possess a much stronger effect on enhancing viscosity, manifested as Mg2+ > Ca2+ > Na+. Molecular dynamics simulations (MD) and fluid dynamics experiment results demonstrate that PAMNS molecules exhibit a more stretched state and enhanced intermolecular associations in high-salinity environments. It is because of the salt-induced tackifying, PAMNS demonstrates superior performance in polymer flooding experiments under salinity ranges from 5 x 10(4) mg L-1 to 20 x 10(4) mg L-1, leading to 10.38-19.83% higher EOR than traditional polymers. Ultrasonic enhancement of persulfate oxidation system governs emerging pollutants decontamination

Emerging contaminants (ECs) are widely present in aquatic environments, posing potential risks to both ecosystems and human health. The ultrasound-assisted persulfate oxidation process has attracted considerable attention in the degradation of ECs due to its ability to generate both sulfate radicals and cavitation effects, enhancing degradation effects. In this paper, the principle of ultrasonic synergistic Fenton-like oxidation system for degrading organic pollutants was reviewed, divided into homogeneous system, non-homogeneous system, and single-atom system to explore the synergistic effect of ultrasound-enhanced persulfate technology in three aspects, and the effects of environmental factors such as ultrasonic frequency and power, system pH, temperature, and initial oxidant concentration on the system's decontamination performance were discussed. The cooling storage ring (CSR) external-target experiment (CEE) is a spectrometer used in construction to study the properties of nuclear matter in high-baryon density regions at the Heavy-Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou (HIRFL). This study presents the design, simulation, manufacturing, and testing of a half-size prototype of a multi-wire drift chamber (MWDC) for the CEE. First, the performance of the MWDC connected to homemade electronics was simulated. The results demonstrated that an energy resolution of 18.5% % for 5.9-keV X-rays and a position resolution of 194 mu m for protons can be achieved by the current design. Because the size of the largest MWDC reached 176 cm x 314 cm, a set of 98 cm x 98 cm prototypes was built using the new techniques. The positioning accuracy of the anode wires in this prototype is better than 20 mu m. After optimization, using commercially available electronics, the prototype can achieved an energy resolution of 19.7% % for a Fe-55 X-ray source. The CEE-MWDC detector and electronics were simultaneously tested. An energy resolution of 22% % was achieved for the Fe-55 source; the track residuals were approximately 330 mu m for the cosmic rays. The results demonstrate that the current design and techniques meet the requirements of the CEE-MWDC array.

Properties of the phase diagram from the Nambu-Jona-Lasino model with a scalar-vector interaction

We investigated the properties of the phase diagram of high-order susceptibilities, speed of sound, and polytropic index based on an extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with an eight-quark scalar-vector interaction. Non-monotonic behavior was observed in all these quantities around the phase transition boundary, which also revealed the properties of the critical point. Further, this study indicated that the chiral phase transition boundary and critical point could vary depending on the scalar-vector coupling constant GSV\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}$$G_\text {SV}$$\end{document}. At finite densities and temperatures, the negative GSV\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}$$G_\text {SV}$$\end{document} term exhibited attractive interactions, which enhanced the critical point temperature and reduced the chemical potential. Design of a large momentum acceptance proton therapy gantry utilizing AG-CCT magnets

The application of superconducting (SC) technology enables magnets to excite strong fields with small footprints, which has great potential for miniaturizing proton therapy gantries. However, the slow ramping rate of SC magnets results in a low treatment efficiency compared with normal-conducting (NC) gantries. To address this problem, this study proposes a compact proton therapy gantry design with a large momentum acceptance utilizing alternating-gradient canted-cosine-theta (AG-CCT) SC magnets. In our design, a high-transmission degrader is mounted in the middle of the gantry, and the upstream beamline employs NC magnets with small apertures. Downstream of the degrader, large-bore AG-CCT magnets with strong alternating focusing gradients are set symmetrically as a local achromat, which realizes a momentum acceptance of 20% (or 40% in the energy domain). Therefore, only three magnetic working points are required to cover a treatment energy of 70-230 MeV. Owing to the large momentum acceptance, the proton beam after the degrader can be directly delivered to the isocenter without truncating its energy spectrum, which can significantly increase the treatment efficiency but causes severe dispersion effects during pencil beam scanning. Therefore, a compensation method was introduced by tuning the normal and skewed quadrupoles during the scanning process. As a result, the new gantry not only presents a remarkable reduction in the size and weight of the facility but also shows good potential for fast treatment.

The back-streaming white-neutron beamline (Back-n) of the china Spallation Neutron Source is an essential neutron- research platform built for the study of nuclear data, neutron physics, and neutron applications. Many types of cross-sectional neutron-reaction measurements have been performed at Back-n since early 2018. These measurements have shown that a significant number of gamma rays can be transmitted to the experimental stations of Back-n along with the neutron beam. These gamma rays, commonly referred to as in-beam gamma rays, can induce a non-negligible experimental background in neutron-reaction measurements. Studying the characteristics of in-beam gamma rays is important for understanding the experimental background. However, measuring in-beam gamma rays is challenging because most gamma-ray detectors are sensitive to neutrons; thus, discriminating between neutron-induced signals and those from in-beam gamma rays is difficult. In this study, we propose the use of the black resonance filter method and a CeBr3 scintillation detector to measure the characteristics of the in-beam gamma rays of Back-n. Four types of black resonance filters, Ta-181, Co-59, Ag-nat, and Cd-nat, were used in this measurement. The time-of-flight (TOF) technique was used to select the detector signals remaining in the absorption region of the TOF spectra, which were mainly induced by in-beam gamma rays. The energy distribution and flux of the in-beam gamma rays of Back-n were determined by analyzing the deposited energy spectra of the CeBr3 scintillation detector and using Monte Carlo simulations. Based on the results of this study, the background contributions from in-beam gamma rays in neutron-reaction measurements at Back-n can be reasonably evaluated, which is beneficial for enhancing both the experimental methodology and data analysis.

Material Composition of the Newly Discovered Zongzhuo Formation Sedimentary Mélange in Dingri Area, Southern Tibet, and its Constraints on the Basin Controlling Dingri-Gamba Fault

The study of sedimentary m & eacute;langes holds pivotal importance in understanding orogenic processes and unveiling geodynamic mechanisms. In this study, we present findings on zircon U-Pb isotopes and whole-rock elemental data concerning the recently uncovered Zongzhuo Formation sedimentary m & eacute;langes within the Dingri area. Field observations reveal the predominant composition of the Zongzhuo Formation, characterized by a matrix of sandstone-mudstone mixed with sand-conglomerates within native blocks exhibiting soft sediment deformation. Moreover, exotic blocks originating from littoral-neritic seas display evidence of landslide deformation. Our study identifies the depositional environment of the Zongzhuo Formation in Dingri as a slope turbidite fan, with its provenance traced back to the passive continental margin. Notably, this contrasts with the Zongzhuo Formation found in the Jiangzi-Langkazi area. Based on existing data, we conclude that the Zongzhuo Formation in the Dingri area was influenced by the Dingri-Gamba fault and emerged within a fault basin of the passive continental margin due to Neo-Tethys oceanic subduction during the Late Cretaceous period. Its provenance can be attributed to the littoral-neritic sea of the northern Tethys Himalaya region. This study holds significant implications for understanding the tectonic evolution of Tethys Himalaya and for reevaluating the activity of the Dingri-Gamba fault, as it controls the active deposition of the Zongzhuo Formation.

Guided by the intelligent construction of coal mines and integrating the concept of the Cyber-Physical System (CPS), a novel approach to a coal mine information-physical fusion system is proposed. This concept emerges from the advancement of intelligent mines and the growing need for enhanced safety in coal mine operations. From a system safety perspective, this approach aims to effectively evaluate security issues by better integrating the informational and physical layers of intelligent mines. Currently, research in areas such as power grids and water networks has widely adopted concepts of cascade failures and robustness. It is suggested that the CPS framework be adapted to the mining sector. Considering the critical role of coal mines in china's energy security and their vulnerability to cyber attacks, a mine-specific CPS system is designed. This system incorporates a model of mine information-physical fusion, including networks for mine operations, management, and control, tailored to the unique conditions of mine shafts and underground settings. Utilizing Markov process theory, the paper delves into the theoretical study of the cascade failure process under deliberate attack strategies. This analysis is essential to effectively assess the safety issues within the information-physical system, providing vital support for fault prediction and safety analysis. The model of cascading failures in the mine information-physical system is developed, and based on an analysis of resilience and robustness, the study identifies key factors influencing the security of mine information-physical systems. Critical factors affecting the reliability of these systems include the number of system nodes, node coupling, edge count, and the interconnection methods of the dual-layer dependency network. The paper concludes by discussing the challenges in analyzing the security of information-physical systems and suggesting directions for future research.
