Numerical simulation analysis of wind field above pavement surface in different landforms by computational fluid dynamics approach

The temperature and moisture of the pavement structure can be greatly influenced by the wind speed above pavement *** wind speed above pavement surface not only is dominated by the wind speed of atmosphere,but also it is highly related to the landform and buildings around ***,currently there are no studies about the wind field above pavement surface in consideration of the effect of the landform and buildings.A simulation method,which is combined with geographic information system(GIS),wind data from meteorological observatory and computational fluid dynamics(CFD)software,is employed to study the effect of the landform and the wind speed of atmosphere on the wind field above pavement *** cases are studied,including an urban road,a coastal road and a mountainous ***,the wind field distribution above road surface in different wind directions was studied in our *** indicate that the wind field above pavement surface can be greatly affected by the landforms,buildings and wind *** simulation method can provide reliable results for the wind field above pavement *** maximum relative errors between simulated and measured wind speed can be less than 20%in the analysis of the three *** is recommended that the CFD simulation method is a good tool to accurately know the wind field above pavement surface.

Twenty-seven FHDZ-M15 combined geomagnetic observation systems(each of which is equipped with a fluxgate magnetometer and a proton magnetometer)had been installed in the China geomagnetic network before the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake,during which coseismic disturbances were recorded by 26 fluxgate magnetometer *** geomagnetic disturbances have similar spatial and temporal patterns to seismic waves,except for various *** proton magnetometer observatories recorded coseismic disturbances with very small *** addition,fluxgate magnetometers registered largeamplitude disturbances that are likely to have included responses to seismic ***,two problems remain ***,why do these geomagnetic disturbances always arrive later than P waves?Second,why do the geomagnetic disturbances have spatial and temporal directivity similar to the main rupture direction of the earthquake?Solving these two problems may be crucial to find the mechanism responsible for generating these geomagnetic anomalies.

VERIFICATION OF TYPHOON FORECASTS BY THE GRAPES MODEL

Four landfalling typhoon cases in 2005 were selected for a numerical simulation study with the Global/Regional Assimilation and Prediction System(GRAPES) *** preliminary assessment results of the performance of the model,including the predictions of typhoon track,landfall time,location and intensity,etc.,are presented and the sources of errors are *** 24-hour distance forecast error of the typhoon center by the model is shown to be about 131 km,while the 48-hour error is 252 *** model was relatively more skilful at forecasts of landfall time and locations than those of intensity at *** average,the 24-hour forecasts were slightly better than the 48-hour *** analysis of data impacts indicates that the assimilation of unconventional observation data is essential for the improvement of the model *** model could also be improved by increasing model resolution to simulate the mesoscale and fine scale systems and by improving methods of terrain refinement processing.

Monitoring gas-and particulate-phase short-chain polychlorinated paraffins in the urban air of dalian by a self-developed passive sampler

The concentration of short-chain polychlorinated paraffins(SCCPs) in the urban air of dalian,China was monitored from September 2016 to August 2017 with a self-developed passive sampler(PAS1) and an active high-volume sampler, simultaneously. PAS1 successfully collected the entire target SCCPs in the ambient air. Air SCCPs sampled by PAS1 were found be in the linear uptake stage during 181 days of sampling. Passive and active samples showed comparable congener profiles, and the dominant contributors of SCCPs in the two kinds of samples were similar. A significant linear correlation was observed between the total concentration of SCCPs sampled by PAS1 and active sampler in the four seasons. The passive sampling rates of the PAS1 for the gas and particulate phases of SCCPs were measured. The quantitative structure–property relationship of the sampling rate of PAS1(Rair) for gas-phase SCCPs was studied. From the molecular point of view, Rairwas mainly affected by the molecular weight and sub-cooled liquid vapor pressure of SCCPs. In general, SCCPs in the urban air of dalian mainly existed in gas phase,lower molecular weight SCCPs primarily occurred in the gas phase, whereas higher molecular weight SCCPs were predominately adsorbed or absorbed on airborne particles. The air concentration of SCCPs in the four seasons were different, the correlation of the concentration of SCCPs in the air with the meteorology parameters was conducted. The exposure risk by intake air SCCPs of the residents around the sampling sites was evaluated according to the European risk assessment standards.

IMPACTS OF TWO TROPICAL CYCLONES EXPERIENCING EXTRATROPICAL TRANSITION DURING NORTHWARD PROGRESSION ON THE RAINFALL OF LIAODONG PENINSULA

Both of Typhoon Winnie (9711) and Matsa (0509) underwent an extratropical transition (ET) process when they moved northward after landfall and affected Liaodong Peninsula. However, Matsa produced half as much rainfall as Winnie, although it struck Liaodong Peninsula directly while Winnie passed through the Bohai Sea. The relations between the ET processes and the precipitation over Liaodong Peninsula are examined. The result shows that the precipitation difference between Winnie and Matsa was closely related to the interactions between the westerly systems and typhoons during their ET processes. Winnie was captured by the upper westerly trough and then coupled with it when moving to the mid-latitudes, and the positive anomaly of moist potential vorticity (MPV) was transported downward from the upper troposphere over the remnant circulation of the tropical cyclone (TC). It was favorable to the interaction between tropical warm and wet air and westerly cold air, causing convective cloud clusters to form and develop. The rain belt composed of several meso-β cloud clusters over the Liaodong Peninsula, resulting in heavy rainfall. On the other hand, Matsa did not couple with any upper trough during its ET process and the positive anomaly of MPV in the upper troposphere and its downward transfer were weak. Only one meso-β cloud cluster occurred in Matsa’s rain belt during its ET process that tended to lessen rainfall over Liaodong Peninsula.

The Space Advanced Technology demonstration satellite(SATech-01),a mission for low-cost space science and new technology experiments,organized by Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS),was successfully launched into a Sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of~500 km on July 27,2022,from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch *** as an experimental platform for space science exploration and the demonstration of advanced common technologies in orbit,SATech-01 is equipped with 16 experimental payloads,including the solar upper transition region imager(SUTRI),the lobster eye imager for astronomy(LEIA),the high energy burst searcher(HEBS),and a High Precision Magnetic Field Measurement System based on a CPT Magnetometer(CPT).It also incorporates an imager with freeform optics,an integrated thermal imaging sensor,and a multi-functional integrated imager,*** paper provides an overview of SATech-01,including a technical description of the satellite and its scientific payloads,along with their on-orbit performance.

Concentrations and gas-particle partitioning of PCDD/Fs in the urban air of dalian,China

PCDD/Fs in the urban air of dalian,China were monitored with high-volume active sampler from November 2009 to October *** concentration of Cl 4-8 DD/Fs ranged from 3065 to 49538 fg m-3,with an average of 10249 fg *** international toxic equivalents(I-TEQ) value of that was 61.8 1182 fg m-3,with an average of 235 fg m-3,which was comparable to those in the other urban locations around the *** was found that the Cl 4 8 DD/Fs appeared to be present mainly in the particle phase during winter,spring and autumn,while during summer which were dominantly in gas *** ratio of Cl 4-8 DD/Fs present in particle phase increased with the increasing level of *** concentrations of PCDFs and PCDDs decreased with the increase of chlorinated level,while the concentrations of 2,3,7,8-PCDDs congeners increased with the increase of chlorination *** homolog profiles of the concentrations of PCDFs presented were higher than those of the PCDDs,which indicated the PCDD/Fs pollution source of the air in dalian was characteristic for thermal source *** correlation analysis of meteorological parameters with the concentrations of Cl 4-8 CDD/Fs was conducted using SPSS packages,and it was found that the ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure were important factors influence the concentration of PCDD/Fs in the *** respiratory risk and intake dioxins of the residents around the sampling sites were studied in the *** was found that Junge-Pankow model was much more accurate in predicting the gas-particle partitioning behavior of PCDD/Fs homologues during winter,while the Harner-Bidleman model shows better agreement with the measured data during winter and summer.

Light Propagation in the Second post-Newtonian Approximation of Scalar-Tensor Theory of Gravity

In this paper, we use the metric coefficients and the equation of motion obtained in the second post- Newtonian approximation of scalar-tensor theory to derive the second-order light propagation equation and the light deflection angle and compare it with previous works. These results are useful for precision astrometry missions like ASTROD, GALA, Darwin and SIM which aim at astrometry with micro-arcsecond and nano-aresecond accuracies, and need for the second post-Newtonian framework and ephemeris for observations to determine the stellar and spacecraft positions.

Simultaneous monitoring of PCB profiles in the urban air of dalian,China with active and passive samplings

The concentration of polychlorinated biphenyls （PCBs） in the urban air of dalian, China was monitored from November 2009 to October 2010 with active high-volume sampler and semipermeable membrane device （SPMD） passive sampler. The concentration of PCBs （particle ＋ gas）（∑PCBs） ranged from 18.6 to 91.0 pg/m3, with an average of 50.9 pg/m3, and the most abundant dioxin-like PCB （DL-PCBs） was PCB118. The WHO-TEQ values of DL-PCBs were 3.6--22.1 fg/m3, with an average of 8.5 fg/m3, and PCB126 was the maximum contributor to ZTEQ. There was a much larger amount of PCBs in the gas phase than in the particulate phase. The dominant PCB components were lower and middle molecular weight PCBs. With increasing chlorination level, the concentration of the PCB congeners in the air decreased. The gas-particulate partitioning of PCBs was different for the four seasons. The gas- particulate partitioning coefficients （logKp） vs. subcooled liquid vapor pressures （logPL~） of PCBs had reasonable correlations for different sampling sites and seasons. The absorption mechanism contributed more to the gas-particulate partitioning process than adsorption. Correlation analysis of meteorological parameters with the concentration of PCBs was conducted using SPSS packages. The ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure were important factors influencing the concentration of PCBs in the air. The distribution pattern of the congeners of PCBs and the dominant contributors to DL-PCBs and TEQ in active samples and SPMDs passive samples were similar. SPMD mainly sequestrated gas phase PCBs.

A Case Study of a Regional Torrential Rain in North China Caused by Typhoon Damrey (2012)

By using the NCEP/GFS analysis data, CIMISS data, JMA and China’s Typhoon Networks, heavy rainstorm occurred in east of North China associated with Typhoon Damrey from August 3rd to 4th, 2012 was analyzed. Results show during Damrey was going nearby Tianjin City and Hebei province of China, heavy rainstorm was observed in the cities of Qinhuangdao and Tangshan. The southerly jet stream from the southern side of the subtropical high and the periphery of Typhoon Saola is the conveyor belt for water vapor and energy, which enables Damrey to maintain for a long time and provide water vapor and heat conditions for rainfall in east of North China. The structure of Damrey caused a strong updraft in east of North China with a K-index greater than 35°C, which provided a favorable condition for the heavy rainstorm. The typhoon rainstorms in North China are the result of the interaction of the westerly, subtropical and tropical systems. In this heavy rain period, there was an obvious interaction between subtropical and tropical systems. This study has investigated the interaction between the northwestern Pacific typhoon and the North China heavy rainstorm, including the circulation characteristics of the typhoon and North China before and after the regional heavy rainstorm. Additionally, the climate background provides a reliable basis for the heavy rain forecast.
