Crustal and upper mantle structure beneath Abaga area in Inner Mongolia revealed by Rayleigh-wave phase velocity tomography

There are strong interactions between the crust and the mantle in the Abaga *** study the structure of the crust and upper mantle in that area,the fundamental-mode Rayleigh-wave phase velocity dispersion along 3,331 inter-station paths were estimated by the continuous wavelet transformation *** dispersion data were used to construct the first 2-D phase velocity maps for waves with periods of 12-80 s and a horizontal resolution of 0.5°×0.5°by applying a linear *** results show that the short-period phase velocity distributions(12-20 s)are affected by exposed Cenozoic volcanoes and the thickness of the sedimentary *** velocity maps for waves with periods of 30-40 s indicate that the direction of the Solonker suture zone is in good agreement with the extension of the high-speed anomalous connection in the study *** is concluded that the Solonker suture zone extends throughout the entire *** periods of 30-80 s,stable low-velocity anomalies were observed near the Holocene volcanoes in the northeast and south of the study area,suggesting that the low-velocity anomaly is related to volcanic ***,the two low-velocity anomalies may be connected,suggesting that the Darigan Volcano may have the same thermal source as the Honggeertu Volcano and even the Datong *** the thermal source of the two low-velocity anomalies is speculated to be upwelling of hot mantle *** addition,the velocities in the crust and upper mantle are lower than those from the AK 135 model and are close to the velocity for the destroyed North China Craton,and very similar to that for the East African Rift *** may indicate that the lithospheric structure in the Abaga area is active.

Potassium channel in peripheral blood lymphocytes of turbot (Scophthalmus maximus)

In order to provide pertinent evidence of ion channel with immune response in the fish, whole cell patch-clamp technique was employed for potassium ion channel study in turbot （Scophthalmus maximus）. Lymphocytes were isolated by Percoll density gradient centrifugation from peripheral blood samples, and electrophysiological characters of the channel were analyzed. In the recorded cells, activated voltage of the channels was -42.5±3.7 mV and the average peak current was 313.12±28.2 pA. The channel was identified as voltage dependent, the current was outward and it could be inhibited by 10 mmol/dma TEA or 5 mmol/dm^3 4-AP, a specific potassium channel inhibitor, identifying the existence of potassium channel in peripheral lymphocytes of the turbot.

The purpose of this paper is to adopt the uniform confidence method in both water pipeline design and oil-gas pipeline *** on the importance of pipeline and consequence of its failure,oil and gas pipeline can be classified into three pipe classes,with exceeding probabilities over 50 years of 2%,5% and 10%,***-based design requires more information about ground motion,which should be obtained by evaluating seismic safety for pipeline engineering *** from a city＇s water pipeline network,the long-distance oil and gas pipeline system is a spatially linearly distributed *** the uniform confidence of seismic safety,a long-distance oil and pipeline formed with pump stations and different-class pipe segments should be considered as a whole system when analyzing seismic *** the uncertainty of earthquake magnitude,the design-basis fault displacements corresponding to the different pipeline classes are proposed to improve deterministic seismic hazard analysis（DSHA）.A new empirical relationship between the maximum fault displacement and the surface-wave magnitude is obtained with the supplemented earthquake data in East *** estimation of fault displacement for a refined oil pipeline in Wenchuan MS8.0 earthquake is introduced as an example in this paper.

Electromagnetic Emissions Recorded by a Borehole TOA Installment before Four Huge Destructive <i>M</i><sub>S</sub>≥ 8.0 earthquakes in Asia

In this paper, electromagnetic emissions recorded by a borehole TOA installment with three observing channels of CH1 (0.01 - 0.1 Hz), CH2 (0.1 - 1.0 Hz) and CH3 (1 - 9 kHz) before four large earthquakes with magnitudes more than 8.0 have been depicted. These abnormities present different fluctuating processes from one another. For the Wenchuan MS 8.0 earthquake on 12 May 2008, the nearest one among these four events and only 660 km from the TOA station, electromagnetic information appeared at least 5 months ago in two low frequency bands of CH1 and CH2 and it was subjected to an obvious fluctuating process with several developing stages: initial information, intensive anomaly and large amplitude signals. The typical pulse-like emissions in CH2 happened group by group with large various magnitudes, which can be of 10 mV in the climax period. While during this period, compatible wave-like information with little magnitudes also happened in CH1 channel and a few pulses in CH3. Anomalous emissions occurred about 4 months prior to the 25 April 2015 Nepal MS 8.1 event, 1560 km away from the TOA station. The abnormal information in CH2 also appeared group by group but with small various magnitudes, more than 2 mV during their climax. This process is also effective for the Sumatra MS 8.9 earthquake on 26 December 2004, 2500 km from the borehole TOA, only with a different duration of 2 months and less magnitudes of 0.1 mV in CH1 and 1 mV in CH2 in this case. However, there is no obvious fluctuation and only small constant amplitude signals being ~0.15 mV appeared during 2 weeks before the Japan MS 9.0 earthquake on 11 March 2011. It is the farthest one among these four events and beyond 4000 km from the observing station. So, we can make a conclusion that there is a near relationship between the properties of the abnormities associated with these four earthquakes, such as amplitudes, duration and signal types, and the distances from TOA station: on one hand, the amplitude an

Seismogenic tectonics of the Qian-Gorlos earthquake in Jilin Province,China

The Qian-Gorlos earthquake, which occurred in the Songliao basin in Jilin Province in 1119 AD, was the largest earthquake to occur in NE China before the 1975 Haicheng earthquake. Based on historical records and surface geological investigations, it has been suggested previously that the earthquake epicenter was in the Longkeng area. However, other workers have considered the epicenter to be in the Halamaodu area based on the landslides and faults found in this region. No seismogenic structure has yet been found in either of these two *** tried to detect active faults in the urban areas of Songyuan city, where the historical earthquake was probably located. One of the aims of this work was to clarify the seismogenic structure so that the seismic risk in the city could be more accurately evaluated. The area was investigated and analyzed using information from remote sensing and topographic surveys, seismic data from petroleum exploration, shallow seismic profiles, exploratory geological trenches on fault outcrops, and borehole data. The geophysical data did not reveal any evidence of faults cutting through Cretaceous or later strata under the Longkeng scarp, which has been suggested to be structural evidence of the Qian-Gorlos earthquake. The continuous fault surfaces on the back edge of terraces in theHalamaodu area stretch for [3.5 km and were probably formed by tectonic activity. However, results from shallow seismic profiles showed that the faults did not extend downward, with the corresponding deep structure being identified as a gentle kink band. A new reverse fault was found to the west of the two suggested epicenters, which presented as a curvilinear fault extending to the west, and was formed by two groups of NE- and NW-trending faults intersecting the Gudian fault. Three-dimensional seismic and shallow seismic data from petroleum exploration revealed its distinct spatial distribution and showed that the fault may cut through Late Quaternary strata. E

An overview of cetacean strandings, bycatches and rescues along the western coast of the Taiwan Strait, China: 2010–2015

The analysis of cetacean strandings can provide fundamental information about species diversity and composition in a particular region. The present study collected and analyzed cetacean strandings, bycatches and rescues along the western coast of the Taiwan Strait, China, from 2010 to 2015. In total, 48 records, including 37 strandings, 8 bycatches and 3 rescues, involving 13 known species were collected. Among them, Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins（Sousa chinensis） and finless porpoises（Neophocaena phocaenoides） were the most common species, consisting of 31.3% and 25%, respectively. Notably, 10 out of the 48（20.8%） records were collected from the Pingtan Island and included 3 species of Mysticeti and 4 species of Odontoceti. Finally, we compared the cetacean species composition between the western and eastern coasts of the Taiwan Strait; 31 cetacean species occurred in the Taiwan Strait, indicating a relatively high cetacean diversity in this region. Systematic field surveys are urgently needed to explore the cetacean species composition, population stock and the related habitat status in the Taiwan Strait, which may improve conservation management in the future.

Purification and characterization of cold-active endo-1,4-β-glucanase produced by Pseudoalteromonas sp. AN545 from Antarctica

A bacterium hydrolyzing carboxymethylcellulose, isolated from Antarctic sea ice, was identified as Pseudoalteromonas sp. based on 16S rDNA gene sequences and named as Pseudoalteromonas sp. AN545. The extracellular endo-1,4-β-glucanase AN-1 was purified successively by ammonium sulfate precipitation, DEAE-Sepharose ion exchange chromatography and Sephadex G-75 gel filtration chromatography. The molecular mass of AN-1 was estimated to be 47.5 kDa utilizing SDS-PAGE and gel chromatography analysis. AN-1 could hydrolyze caboxymethylcellulose, avicel and β-glucan, but not cellobiose, xylan and p-Nitrophenyl-β-D-glucopyranoside. The optimal temperature and pH for the β-glucanase activity of AN-1 were determined to be at 30℃ and pH 6.0, respectively. AN-1 was stable at acidic solutions of pH 5.0-6.5 and temperatures below 30℃ for 1 h. Moreover, the specific activity was enhanced by Ca2＋ and Mg2., and inhibited by Cu2＋. The kinetic parameters Michaelis constant （Km） and maximum velocity （Vmax） of AN-1 were 3.96 mg/mL and 6.06×10-2 mg/（***）, respectively.

Development of taxonomic rRNA-targeted probes of two harmful algae: Prorocentrum minimum and Karenia mikimotoi by fluorescence in situ hybridization

Harmful algal blooms recently have been under the spotlight throughout the world, because of their nega- tive impact on the marine environment, aquaculture, fisheries as well as public health. The development of methods for rapid and precise identification and quantification of causative species is essential for the warning and monitoring of blooms, among which the techniques based on taxonomic probes are the most favored. In this study, two harmful algae, i.e., Prorocentrum minimum and Karenia mikimotoi were tak- en into consideration. The partial large subunit rDNA （D1-D2） of both species were firstly PCR-amplified, cloned and sequenced. The obtained sequences were then introduced to carry out alignment analysis for gene specific regions. Three respective candidate probes for each species were designed and used to screen the optimal probe by performing fluorescence in situ hybridization （FISH） tests. The results showed that the probes Pmin0443 and Kmik0602 displayed the best hybridization for P. minimum and K.. mikimotoi, respectively. Both the specific （taxonomic）（Pmin0443 and Kmik0602） and the control probes （UniC0512 and UniR0499） were used for cross-reactivity tests with other microalgae in our laboratory. The probes Pmin0443 and Kmik0602 are specific and could be served as taxonomic probes introduced into the tech- niques targeting rRNA, such as FISH, sandwich hybridization, and DNA-microarray assay of P minimum and K. mikimotoi in the future. Finally, FISH analyses with both probes were performed on the simulated field samples. The probes could hybridize exclusively with the target cells well, and no significant differ- ence （p 〉0.05） was observed in the cell densities of the samples determined by FISH and light microscopy （LM）. All suggest that the probes are specific and could be introduced into FISH for the monitoring of both harmful algae.

A recent paleoearthquake on Qingfengling seismic fault of Tanlu fault zone

Introduction The Tanlu fault zone lies in the eastern China, which is an important huge active fault with a long history. It has experienced a complex generation and evolution process and affects significantly the regional structure, paleogeography, magma activity, minerogenesis and earthquake activity in the area. With a length of 2 400 km, the fault zone consists of 2-4 or more parallel faults of 10-40 km in width, cutting through different geotectonic elements in the eastern China （FANG et al, 1986）. On July 25 in 1668, an extraordinarily large earthquake of M=8.5 occurred on the Changyi-Dadian fault （F1） that is an embranchment of Tanlu fault zone, resulting in a surface rupture with a total length of 130 km （LI et al, 1994; CHAO et al, 1995）. The paleoseismic study reveals that 3 events with a magnitude equal to 8 occurred on the Changyi-Dadian fault. The recent event occurred 3 500 a ago and the reoccurrence interval is about 3 500 a （LIN and GAO, 1987）. During the Tancheng earthquake （on July 25, 1668）, the Anqiu-Juxian fault was not ruptured, which was a Late Pleistocene active fault （ZHENG et al, 1988; GAO et al, 1988; CHAO et al, 1994） and was doubted as the seismogenic fault of the M=7.0 Anqiu earthquake occurred in 70 BC by certain geologists （CHAO et al, 1994）.
