The earthquakes, which occurred in Haiyuan, Tangshan and Wenchuan, have caused serious damages in the loess area and the abnormal intensity sites are commonly found during the earthquakes. The investigation of the actual earthquake damages and character analysis on sites shows that the topography, loess overburden and underground water level and many other factors affect the intensity. In this paper, the thickness of loess overburden of Tianshui city is achieved by inversion algorithm based on site exploration and microtremor test; the amplification effect of peak ground motion acceleration is calculated using numerical method; a complete formula is obtained through summarizing previous achievements and is used to calculate the abnormal intensity under the multifactorial influence. Finally, a seismic intensity anomaly distribution map is plotted applying the graphic information system （GIS） software in Maiji District, Tianshui city. Through the practical investigation of earthquake disaster, it is found that the figure fits the distribution of actual intensity anomaly very well.

On Jan.31 of 2010,the Suining earthquake occurred at Suining city whch is located the center of Sichuan *** is unusual for the strong earthquake to occur at the center of Sichuan Basin with a stable geotectonic environment and a low-level historical *** macro-epicenter of the earthquake is located at Moxi town of Suining city,Sichuan province,*** earthquake intensity of the epicenter area is degree VII,and the long axis of the isoseismal line trends in NE *** Suining earthquake caused the collapse or destruction of 460 family *** earthquake focal mechanism solution and records of the near-field seismographic stations showed the earthquake occurred at the reverse fault at a depth 34 *** on the waveform and focal mechanism,we consider the Suning earthquake is triggered by the reverse fault and not by the gravitational collapse or man-made explosive *** on seismic refraction profile and borehole,we consider that the earthquake is triggered by the backthrust fault of Moxi anticline rooted in detachments at a depth 3-4 ***,we infer that tectonic mechanism of the Suining(Ms5.0) earthquake is driven by the horizontal crustal shortening and stress adjustment on a shallow detachment after the Wenchuan(Ms 8.0) earthquake.

The Wenchuan earthquake coseismic deformation field is inferred from the coseismic dislocation data based on a 3-D geometric model of the active faults in Sichuan-Yunnan region. Then the potential dislocation displacement is inverted from the deformation field in the 3-D geometric model. While the faults＇ slip velocities are inverted from GPS and leveling data, which can be used as the long-term slip vector. After the potential dislocation displacements are projected to long-term slip direction, we have got the influence of Wenchuan earthquake on active faults in Sichuan-Yunnan region. The results show that the northwestern segment of Longmenshan fault, the southern segments of Xianshuihe fault, Anninghe fault, Zemuhe fault, northern and southern segments of Daliangshan fault, Mabian fault got earthquake risks advanced of 305, 19, 12, 9.1 and 18, 51 years respectively in the eastern part of Sichuan and Yunnan. The lijiang-Xiaojinhe fault, Nujiang fault, Longling-Lancang fault, Nantinghe fault and Zhongdian fault also got earthquake risks advanced in the western part of Sichuan-Yunnan region. Whereas the northwestern segment of Xianshuihe fault and Xiaojiang fault got earthquake risks reduced after the Wenchuan earthquake.

Distribution characteristics of historical earthquake classes in Jiangsu Province and South Huanghai Sea region

According to the analysis on the characteristics of historic earthquakes in Jiangsu Province and South Huanghai Sea region, the historical earthquakes in the studied area are divided into two kinds of comparatively safe class and comparatively dangerous class. Then the statistical result of earthquake class, the characteristics of geo-graphical distribution and geological structures are studied. The study shows: a) In Jiangsu Province and South Huanghai Sea region, the majority of historical strong earthquakes belong to comparatively safe class, only 13.8% belong to comparatively dangerous class; b) Most historical earthquakes belong to comparatively safe class in the land area of Jiangsu, eastern sea area of Yangtze River mouth and northern depression of South Huanghai Sea region. However, along the coast of middle Jiangsu Province and in the sea area of South Huanghai Sea, the distribution of historical earthquake classes is complex and the earthquake series of comparatively dan-gerous class and comparatively safe class are equivalent in number; c) In the studied area, the statistical results of historical earthquake classes and the characteristics of spatial distribution accord very well with the real case of present-day earthquake series. It shows that the seismic activity in the region has the characteristic of succession, and the result from this study can be used as a reference for early postseismic judgment in the earthquake emer-gency work in Jiangsu Province.

As the most influential strike-slip fault in East China,the Tancheng-Lujiang fault zone draws scholars attention for its strong seismic activity. Nevertheless,most research has been conducted along segments in Shandong Province and Bohai Bay where huge earthquakes occur frequently. Meanwhile,it is generally believed that segments lying to the south of Huaihe River have been inactive since the late Quaternary and thus it is incapable of generating moderate or strong earthquakes. However,these understandings about the Tancheng-Lujiang fault have been questioned by our recent work for part of the fault south to the Huaihe River. Based on interpretation of high-resolution satellite images,detailed field investigations near Wuhe county and Mingguang city in northern Anhui Province and elaborate microstructure analysis, we come to the conclusion that the Tancheng-Lujiang fault zone mainly consists of four branches and at least one should be active since the late Pleistocene for the Wuhe-Mingguang section. This segment is monopolized by dextral strike-slip motion in late Quaternary. Different from obvious faults in bed rocks or consolidated sediments,the latest activity trace in Quaternary loose sediment revealed by trench excavation is not obvious or even invisible to visual observation. According to our recent work and previous studies, we call for more attention to be paid to invisible faults in young sediment and also suggest that more research be conducted along this seemingly placid segment.

North China is one of the high-risk areas for destructive strong earthquakes in China's Mainland, with a history of numerous significant seismic events. On August 6, 2023, an Mw5.5 earthquake struck Pingyuan County, Dezhou city, in Shandong Province, China. This earthquake was the largest in the eastern North China Craton(NCC) since the Tangshan earthquake of 1976. Due to the absence of surface ruptures, the fault responsible for the Pingyuan Mw5.5 earthquake remains unclear. To reveal the subsurface geological structure near the earthquake epicenter, this study utilized highresolution two-dimensional seismic reflection profiles to interpret pre-existing faults.

There are strong interactions between the crust and the mantle in the Abaga *** study the structure of the crust and upper mantle in that area,the fundamental-mode Rayleigh-wave phase velocity dispersion along 3,331 inter-station paths were estimated by the continuous wavelet transformation *** dispersion data were used to construct the first 2-D phase velocity maps for waves with periods of 12-80 s and a horizontal resolution of 0.5°×0.5°by applying a linear *** results show that the short-period phase velocity distributions(12-20 s)are affected by exposed Cenozoic volcanoes and the thickness of the sedimentary *** velocity maps for waves with periods of 30-40 s indicate that the direction of the Solonker suture zone is in good agreement with the extension of the high-speed anomalous connection in the study *** is concluded that the Solonker suture zone extends throughout the entire *** periods of 30-80 s,stable low-velocity anomalies were observed near the Holocene volcanoes in the northeast and south of the study area,suggesting that the low-velocity anomaly is related to volcanic ***,the two low-velocity anomalies may be connected,suggesting that the Darigan Volcano may have the same thermal source as the Honggeertu Volcano and even the Datong *** the thermal source of the two low-velocity anomalies is speculated to be upwelling of hot mantle *** addition,the velocities in the crust and upper mantle are lower than those from the AK 135 model and are close to the velocity for the destroyed North China Craton,and very similar to that for the East African Rift *** may indicate that the lithospheric structure in the Abaga area is active.

The purpose of this paper is to adopt the uniform confidence method in both water pipeline design and oil-gas pipeline *** on the importance of pipeline and consequence of its failure,oil and gas pipeline can be classified into three pipe classes,with exceeding probabilities over 50 years of 2%,5% and 10%,***-based design requires more information about ground motion,which should be obtained by evaluating seismic safety for pipeline engineering *** from a city＇s water pipeline network,the long-distance oil and gas pipeline system is a spatially linearly distributed *** the uniform confidence of seismic safety,a long-distance oil and pipeline formed with pump stations and different-class pipe segments should be considered as a whole system when analyzing seismic *** the uncertainty of earthquake magnitude,the design-basis fault displacements corresponding to the different pipeline classes are proposed to improve deterministic seismic hazard analysis（DSHA）.A new empirical relationship between the maximum fault displacement and the surface-wave magnitude is obtained with the supplemented earthquake data in East *** estimation of fault displacement for a refined oil pipeline in Wenchuan MS8.0 earthquake is introduced as an example in this paper.

Electromagnetic Emissions Recorded by a Borehole TOA Installment before Four Huge Destructive <i>M</i><sub>S</sub>≥ 8.0 earthquakes in Asia

In this paper, electromagnetic emissions recorded by a borehole TOA installment with three observing channels of CH1 (0.01 - 0.1 Hz), CH2 (0.1 - 1.0 Hz) and CH3 (1 - 9 kHz) before four large earthquakes with magnitudes more than 8.0 have been depicted. These abnormities present different fluctuating processes from one another. For the Wenchuan MS 8.0 earthquake on 12 May 2008, the nearest one among these four events and only 660 km from the TOA station, electromagnetic information appeared at least 5 months ago in two low frequency bands of CH1 and CH2 and it was subjected to an obvious fluctuating process with several developing stages: initial information, intensive anomaly and large amplitude signals. The typical pulse-like emissions in CH2 happened group by group with large various magnitudes, which can be of 10 mV in the climax period. While during this period, compatible wave-like information with little magnitudes also happened in CH1 channel and a few pulses in CH3. Anomalous emissions occurred about 4 months prior to the 25 April 2015 Nepal MS 8.1 event, 1560 km away from the TOA station. The abnormal information in CH2 also appeared group by group but with small various magnitudes, more than 2 mV during their climax. This process is also effective for the Sumatra MS 8.9 earthquake on 26 December 2004, 2500 km from the borehole TOA, only with a different duration of 2 months and less magnitudes of 0.1 mV in CH1 and 1 mV in CH2 in this case. However, there is no obvious fluctuation and only small constant amplitude signals being ~0.15 mV appeared during 2 weeks before the Japan MS 9.0 earthquake on 11 March 2011. It is the farthest one among these four events and beyond 4000 km from the observing station. So, we can make a conclusion that there is a near relationship between the properties of the abnormities associated with these four earthquakes, such as amplitudes, duration and signal types, and the distances from TOA station: on one hand, the amplitude an
