Evacuated tube transportation （etT） will be one of the ultra-large-scale vacuum application areas. This paper lists some key vacuum technology issues in etT：（1） how to construct ultra-large-scale vacuum chamber with lower cost and high reliability, （2） how to evacuate gas out of the etT tube in short time, （3） how to release heat or reduce temperature in the vacuum tube, （4） how to avoid vacuum discharge, （5） how to make vehicles with airproof shells and life support system, and （6） how to detect leaks and find leak positions efficiently. At the same time, some solutions are proposed.

Drought is the most important environmental stress affecting agriculture worldwide. Exploiting yield potential and maintaining yield stability of crops in water-limited environments are urgent tasks that must be undertaken in order to guarantee food supply for the inc.easing world population. Tremendous efforts have been devoted to identifying key regulators in plant drought response through genetic, molecular, and biochemical studies using, in most cases, the model species Arabidopsis thaliana. However, only a small portion of these regulators have been explored as potential candidate genes for their application in the improvement of drought tolerance in crops. Based on biological functions, these genes can be classified into the following three categories：（1） stress-responsive transcriptional regulation （e.g. DREB1, AREB, NF-YB）; （2） post-transcriptional RNA or protein modifications such as phosphorylation/dephosphorylation （e.g. SnRK2, ABI1） and farnesylation （e.g. ERA1）; and （3） osomoprotectant metabolism or molecular chaperones （e.g. CspB）. While continuing down the path to discovery of new target genes, serious efforts are also focused on fine-tuning the expression of the known candidate genes for stress tolerance in specific temporal and spatial patterns to avoid negative effects in plant growth and development. These efforts are starting to bear fruit by showing yield improvements in several crops under a variety of water-deprivation conditions. As most such evaluations have been performed under controlled growth environments, a gap still remains between early success in the laboratory and the application of these techniques to the elite cultivars of staple crops in the field. Nevertheless, significant progress has been made in the identification of signaling pathways and master regulators for drought tolerance. compressed thin layers of ceramic fiber insulation are used as high temperature insulating layers as well as mechanical support for catalyst coated ceramic monoliths in automotive emission control devices. Minimization of energy losses, choice of material and thickness of com- pressed insulating layer are based on knowledge of their thermal physical properties. Currently, consistent meas- urements of materials in a compressed state, as they would be in emission control applications, are absent due to the absence of suitable methods for s,wh tests. A test method was developed for measurement of the thermal conductivity of compressed thin fiber layers. This paper summarizes the results of thermal conductivity and diffu- sivity measurements of 27 compressed fiber alumina -sili- ca -vermiculite materials in the range of 200 -950℃. Thermal physical properties as a function of temperature, density/mechanical pressure, thickness and composition of insulating layers are presented. The whole set of exper- imental data is generalized on 3D surface plots and de- scribed by polynomial functions. The possible heat trans- fer mechanisms governing apparent thermal conductivity of pressed insulation layers are discussed.

To evaluate new therapies for hepatitis C virus (HCV), data about real-world outcomes are needed. MetHODSOutcomes of 223 patients with genotype 1 HCV who started telaprevir- or boceprevir-based triple therapy (May 2011-March 2012) at the Mount Sinai Medical Center were analyzed. Human immunodeficiency virus-positive patients and patients who received a liver transplant were excluded. Factors associated with sustained virological response (SVR24) and relapse were analyzed by univariable and multivariable logistic regression as well as classification and regression trees. Fast virological response (FVR) was defined as undetectable HCV RNA at week-4 (telaprevir) or week-8 (boceprevir). RESULTSThe median age was 57 years, 18% were black, 44% had advanced fibrosis/cirrhosis (FIB-4 ≥ 3.25). Only 42% (94/223) of patients achieved SVR24 on an intention-to-treat basis. In a model that inc.uded platelets, SVR24 was associated with white race [odds ratio (OR) = 5.92, 95% confidence interval (CI): 2.34-14.96], HCV sub-genotype 1b (OR = 2.81, 95%CI: 1.45-5.44), platelet count (OR = 1.10, per x 104 cells/μL, 95%CI: 1.05-1.16), and IL28B CC genotype (OR = 3.54, 95%CI: 1.19-10.53). Platelet counts > 135 x 103/μL were the strongest predictor of SVR by classification and regression tree. Relapse occurred in 25% (27/104) of patients with an end-of-treatment response and was associated with non-FVR (OR = 4.77, 95%CI: 1.68-13.56), HCV sub-genotype 1a (OR = 5.20; 95%CI: 1.40-18.97), and FIB-4 ≥ 3.25 (OR = 2.77; 95%CI: 1.07-7.22). CONCLUSIONThe SVR rate was 42% with telaprevir- or boceprevir-based triple therapy in real-world practice. Low platelets and advanced fibrosis were associated with treatment failure and relapse.

When a sample’s X-ray diffraction pattern(XRD)is measured,the corresponding crystal structure is usually determined by searching for similar XRD patterns in the ***,if a similar XRD pattern is not found,it is tremendously laborious to identify the crystal structure even for *** case commonly happens when researchers develop novel and complex *** this study,we propose a crystal structure creation scheme that reproduces a given XRD *** employed a combinatorial inverse design method using an evolutionary algorithm and crystal morphing(Evolv&Morph)supported by Bayesian optimization,which maximizes the similarity of the XRD patterns between target one and those of the created crystal *** sixteen different crystal structure systems with twelve simulated and four powder target XRD patterns,Evolv&Morph successfully created crystal structures with the same XRD pattern as the target(cosine similarity 99%for the simulated ones and>96%the experimentally measured ones).Furthermore,the present method has merits in that it is an automated crystal structure creation scheme,not dependent on a *** believe that Evolv&Morph can be applied not only to determine crystal structures but also to design materials for specific properties.

Environmental and energy concerns have inc.eased interest in renewable energy sources, particularly biofuels. Thus the fermentation of glucose from sulfuric acid-hydrolyzed corn stover for the production of bioethanol has been explored using a combined acid retardation and continuous-effect membrane distillation treatment process. This process resulted in the separation of the sugars and acids from the acid-catalyzed hydrolysate, the removal of most of the fermentation inhibitors from the hydrolysate and the concentration of the detoxified hydrolysate. The recovery rate of glucose from the sugar-acid mixture using acid retardation was greater than 99.12% and the sulfuric acid was completely recovered from the hydrolysate. When the treated com stover hydrolysate, containing 100 g/L glucose, was used as a carbon source, 43.06 g/L of ethanol was produced with a productivity of 1.79 g/(L· h) and a yield of 86.31 %, In the control experiment, where glucose was used as the carbon source these values were 1.97 g/(L·h) and 93.10% respectively. Thus the integration of acid retardation and a continuous-effect membrane distillation process are effective for the production of fuel ethanol from com stover.

Through cooperative research between the government,the private sector, mining companies and equipment manufacturers,considerable progress had been made during the last decade in studying the mechanics of strata failure and acquiring the know- ledge needed to develop an integrated monitoring system for assessing local roof stability. Because of higher geotechnical risks in retreat mining operations,it was both important to develop panel layout designs that control convergence and stress and to monitor ground response during operations to verify designs and provide warning of impending stability *** detecting both localized roof stability problems and global overburden col- lapse mechanisms,the proposes an integrated panel-wide monitoring system which com- bines the capabilities of load rate monitoring of mobile roof supports (MRSs) with deforma- tion measurements using an extensive array of sensors located near the mining face and throughout the *** monitoring methods for the detection of localized roof stability problems have been evaluated on the basis of mine measurements and numerical model- ing *** are load rate monitoring of the hydraulic cylinders of mobile roof support (MRS) and re mote monitoring of roof *** of field data in retreat sections show that roof instabilities are influenced by: (1) pillar failure,(2) pillar yielding,(3) mine seismicity (bumps),(4) geologic structures,and (5) panel layout designs and practice. Pillar yielding and unloading can be conveniently monitored by the load rate monitoring device,but to detect impending localized roof falls,additional ground deformation meas- urements are needed near the mining *** inc.easing the number of deformation measurements in the entire panel,additional safeguards can be achieved for detecting overburden collapse mechanisms while continuously monitoring local roof stability close to the retreat line.
