Insulation systems in high-voltage electric machines play a pivotal role in the reliable operation and longevity of the equipment.Mica-based insulation materials have proven to possess and maintain excellent dielectric properties in the long run and prevent premature insulation degradation.Numerous qualifications tests,such as voltage endurance,are outlined in IEC and IEEE standards.The authors,however,take a different parametric approach,opting for reliability assessment of insulation systems using derived three-parameter Weibull models.Therefore,instead of simple pass–fail criteria,empirical data is employed to determine failure rate probabilities quantitatively and objectively.Experimental data,including breakdown,dissipation factor,and partial discharge mea-surements,are used to construct the Weibull distribution model to predict fault and failure rates and calculate hazard functions.The rigorous examinations interpreted through the analytical model help assess insulation system resilience and particularly the impact of electrical field stress and mica content.Variation of electrical stress from 66.75 to 71.20 V/mil demonstrated how the mean time to failure of the system changed from 146.4 to 85.1 at 3 Un,hence identifying opportunities for design improvement and uncovering performance boundaries.Ultimately,the developed framework enhances comprehension of insulation system failure probabilities,guiding design decisions and ensuring a secure and reliable operation of electrical machines across applications.

Spatial Observation services and Infrastructure is a project to develop and verify innovative infrastructure and services within the context of land monitoring and Earth Observation initiatives at European and Member State(MS)levels.The project’s results contribute to the concept definition of the Shared Environmental Information System(SEIS)emphasising symmetrical online sharing of information as opposed to unidirectional reporting.In a pre-operational set-up,involving the European Environment Agency(EEA),four MS sites and the European Space Agency(ESA),a decentralised information system respecting the Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe(INSPIRE)principles is demonstrated integrating distributed data and processing services as well as interactive multi-lingual access.The geoland2 project is carried out in the context of Global Monitoring for the Environment and Security(GMES),a joint initiative of the European Commission and ESA,aiming to build up a European capacity for GMES.The Spatial Data Infrastructure(SDI)task shall set up operational services for the discovery,viewing,access and delivery of all products generated in the geoland2 project.The paper presents the projects along the five International Standards Organisation(ISO)/Reference Model of Open Distributed Processing viewpoints and concludes with the main recommendation that service provisioning can strongly benefit from a(re-)utilisation of the Service Support Environment(SSE)technology provided sustainably by ESA and from the related rich experience.

Mathematical modeling of anaerobic digestion is a powerful tool to predict gas yields and optimize the process.The Anaerobic Digestion Model No.1(ADM1)is a widely implemented model for this purpose.However,modeling full-scale biogas plants is challenging due to the extensive substrate and parameter characterization required.This study describes the modification of the ADM1 through a simplification of individual process phases,characteristic components and required parameters.Consequently,the ability of the simplified model to simulate the co-digestion of grass silage and cattle slurry was evaluated using data from a full-scale biogas plant.The impacts of substrate composition(crude carbohydrate,protein and lipid concentration)and variability of carbohydrate degradability on simulation results were assessed to identify the most influential parameters.Results indicated that the simplified version was able to depict biogas and biomethane production with average model efficiencies,according to the Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency(NSE)coefficient,of 0.70 and 0.67,respectively,and was comparable to the original ADM1(average model efficiencies of 0.71 and 0.63,respectively).The variability of crude carbohydrate,protein and lipid concentration did not significantly impact biogas and biomethane output for the data sets explored.In contrast,carbohydrate degradability seemed to explain much more of the variability in the biogas and methane production.Thus,the application of simplified models provides a reliable basis for the process simulation and optimization of full-scale agricultural biogas plants.

This article presents and analyses the modular architecture and capabilities of CODE-DE(Copernicus Data and Exploitation Platform–Deutschland,***),the integrated German operational environment for accessing and processing Copernicus data and products,as well as the methodology to establish and operate the system.Since March 2017,CODE-DE has been online with access to Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 data,to Sentinel-3 data shortly after this time,and since March 2019 with access to Sentinel-5P data.These products are available and accessed by 1,682 registered users as of March 2019.During this period 654,895 products were downloaded and a global catalogue was continuously updated,featuring a data volume of 814 TByte based on a rolling archive concept supported by a reload mechanism from a long-term archive.Since November 2017,the element for big data processing has been operational,where registered users can process and analyse data themselves specifically assisted by methods for value-added product generation.Utilizing 195,467 core and 696,406 memory hours,982,948 products of different applications were fully automatically generated in the cloud environment and made available as of March 2019.Special features include an improved visualization of available Sentinel-2 products,which are presented within the catalogue client at full 10 m resolution.

In the wake of ever-increasing environmental pollution, human skin in the modern urban world is exposed to increased levels of harmful environmental pollutants. Many studies have shown that these pollutants can weaken the epidermal skin barrier and thus facilitate the penetration of these substances into the skin. An important goal of modern skin care against harmful environmental influences should therefore be to protect and strengthen the epidermal barrier and to repair occurring damage quickly and efficiently. With this in mind, in the present study we investigated what damage cigarette smoke causes to the epidermal barrier and 1) whether the regular application of a O/W emulsion (Day Cream) can protectively strengthen the epidermal barrier against environmental damage and 2) whether a cigarette smoke-induced disruption of the epidermal barrier is restored faster and better by the regular application of a another O/W emulsion (Night Cream) than in product-untreated skin. The two products are slightly different in plant-oil, active ingredient composition and texture. Firstly, the study has shown that the Lipbarvis? method is suitable for measuring the effect of cigarette smoke, in contrast to conventional biophysical measurement methods (transepidermal water loss, skin hydration). Secondly, both products were able to improve skin barrier function in the corresponding test scenario. This was demonstrated for both test products by a significantly reduced TEWL, significantly increased skin hydration and significantly improved length of the lipid lamellae in the intercellular space, as well as the protective effect of the day cream on the epidermal skin barrier and the regenerative properties of the tested night cream. .

Data harmonization and documentation of the data processing are essential prerequisites for enabling Canonical Analysis Workflows.The recently revised Terabyte-scale air quality database system,which the Tropospheric Ozone Assessment Report(TOAR)created,contains one of the world's largest collections of near-surface air quality measurements and considers FAIR data principles as an integral part.A special feature of our data service is the on-demand processing and product generation of several air quality metrics directly from the underlying database.In this paper,we show that the necessary data harmonization for establishing such online analysis services goes much deeper than the obvious issues of common data formats,variable names,and measurement units,and we explore how the generation of FAIR Digital Objects(FDO)in combination with automatically generateddocumentation may support Canonical Analysis Workflows for airquality and related data.

Big Data Analytics is an emerging field since massive storage and computing capabilities have been made available by advanced e-infrastructures.Earth and Environmental sciences are likely to benefit from Big Data Analytics techniques supporting the processing of the large number of Earth Observation datasets currently acquired and generated through observations and simulations.However,Earth Science data and applications present specificities in terms of relevance of the geospatial information,wide heterogeneity of data models and formats,and complexity of processing.Therefore,Big Earth Data Analytics requires specifically tailored techniques and tools.The EarthServer Big Earth Data Analytics engine offers a solution for coverage-type datasets,built around a high performance array database technology,and the adoption and enhancement of standards for service interaction(OGC WCS and WCPS).The EarthServer solution,led by the collection of requirements from scientific communities and international initiatives,provides a holistic approach that ranges from query languages and scalability up to mobile access and visualization.The result is demonstrated and validated through the development of lighthouse applications in the Marine,Geology,Atmospheric,Planetary and Cryospheric science domains.

The main purpose of this article is to demonstrate that electromagnetic and gravitational phenomenology are two different expressions of the same interaction that we can call “universal interaction”. In order to reach the aim, it is therefore necessary to imagine the matter in a slightly different way, as well as equivalent, to what has been done until today by the literature everywhere accepted. Even if differently imagined, this proposed structure of matter cannot and must not escape from reflecting the measurements and phenomenologies widely experimented in laboratories all over the world. In the proposed model the proton radius;the electron mass;the Avogadro constant;the existence and the mass of neutron and the existence of neutrino are theoretically derived. The main consequence is therefore a more general rewriting of Newton’s law of universal gravitation. A definitive value for the universal gravitational constant is proposed.
