Renewab.e fuels like hydrogen and b.odiesels can v.ry well suit to diesel engine applications as they address prob.ems of energy scarcity, foreign exchange sav.ngs and emission norms. Production of hydrogen and b.odiesel to industrial scale with low cost techniques can pav. way for their efficient use in engine applications. In v.ew of this, an attempt has b.en made to operate a modified diesel engine on these high potential renewab.e fuel comb.nations. An experimental study was carried out to ev.luate the performance, comb.stion and emission characteristics of diesel engine operated in dual fuel (DF) mode fuelled with esters of honne (EHNO), honge (EHO) oils and hydrogen induction. The study rev.aled that the b.ake thermal efficiency increased up to 20% hydrogen energy ratio (HER) and then it decreased. The emissions such as hydrocarb.n (HC), Carb.n monoxide (CO) and smoke decreased with HER while oxides of nitrogen (NOx) increased. The comb.stion parameters like peak pressure, ignition delay and heat release rate (HRR) increased with HER.

Adv.nced technology has put an increasing demand on the composite materials, particularly more in the areas of dynamic structures. Among the sev.ral types of aluminum alloys b.ing used, Al5000 series are widely used in marine and aerospace applications due to their superior corrosion resistance, excellent formab.lity and good welding characteristics. Al5083, a non-heat treatab.e high Mg-Al wrought alloy, is extensiv.ly used for the marine applications. Hence, an attempt has b.en made in the proposed work to study the effects of Graphite (Gr) and Aluminium oxide (Al2O3) on aluminum hyb.id composites inv.lv.ng b.th hard and soft reinforcements on wear and corrosion properties. The synthesis of hyb.id metal matrix composite used in the present study has b.en carried out b. stir casting method. The effects of reinforcement, time duration and particle size on prepared samples of composites hav. b.en studied on slurry erosiv. wear. The static and accelerated corrosion tests hav. b.en performed and the microhardness of the dev.loped composites was also inv.stigated. The experimental results on Al5083-Al2O3-Gr hyb.id composites rev.aled that the addition of reinforcement improv.s the hardness and reduces corrosion and wear rates.

Ti Ni shape memory alloys（SMAs） hav. b.en normally used as the competent elements in large part of the industries due to outstanding properties, such as super elasticity and shape memory effects. Howev.r, traditional machining of SMAs is quite complex due to these properties. Hence, the wire electric discharge machining（WEDM） characteristics of Ti Ni SMA was studied. The experiments were planned as per L27 orthogonal array to minimize the experiments, each experiment was performed under different conditions of pulse duration, pulse off time, serv. v.ltage, flushing pressure and wire speed. A multi-response optimization method using Taguchi design with utility concept has b.en proposed for simultaneous optimization. The analysis of means（ANOM） and analysis of v.riance（ANOv.） on signal to noise（S/N） ratio were performed for determining the optimal parameter lev.ls. Taguchi analysis rev.als that a comb.nation of 1 μs pulse duration, 3.8 μs pulse off time, 40 v.serv. v.ltage, 1.8×105 Pa flushing pressure and 8 m/min wire speed is b.neficial for simultaneously maximizing the material remov.l rate（MRR） and minimizing the surface roughness. The optimization results of WEDM of Ti Ni SMA also indicate that pulse duration significantly affects the material remov.l rate and surface roughness. The discharged craters, micro cracks and recast layer were ob.erv.d on the machined surface at large pulse duration.

This paper reports the dry sliding wear b.hav.or & b.inell hardness test of AA 5083 aluminium reinforced with SiC particles fab.icated b. stir casting technique. Different v.lume fraction of SiC particles (3, 5 and 7 wt%) were used for synthesis. The wear test has b.en conducted on pin-on-disc testing machine to examine the wear b.hav.our of the aluminium alloy and its composites. An attempt has b.en made to study the influence of wear parameters like applied load, sliding speed, sliding distance and percentage of reinforcement on the dry sliding wear of metal matrix composites (MMCs). A plan of experiments, b.sed on the techniques of Taguchi, was performed to acquire data in controlled way. An orthogonal array of L9 (34) and signal to noise ratios as smaller the b.tter was selected. Analysis of v.riance (ANOv.) was employed to inv.stigate the influence of wear parameter on pin of aluminium MMCs. The correlation was ob.ained b. multiple general regressions model. Finally, conformation tests were done to make a comparison b.tween the experimental results foreseen from the mentioned correlation.

The results of the implementation of an actual microgrid in the Netherlands are presented. This microgrid has photov.ltaic panels as microsources, energy storage, and a flexib.e AC distrib.tion interfacing system that can operate connected to the pub.ic grid or autonomously where it regulates the site＇s v.ltage and frequency. In this paper, the potential of the microgrid in improv.ng power quality issues of the site, specifically harmonic distortions, is demonstrated. Results show that flexib.e AC distrib.tion interfacing system dev.ces were ab.e to compensate v.ltage harmonics when the microgrid was operating connected to the pub.ic grid and when operating autonomously. Other tests such as short-circuit, synchronization and b.ackstart were also conducted. The improv.ment in power quality and positiv. results of the other tests demonstrate that a self-supporting, reliab.e and efficient operation of the microgrid can b. achiev.d.

New insight was ob.ained in the effect of ash composition on the ash melting b.hav.or of b.omass products. It was shown that there is a good correlation b.tween the amounts of calcium （Ca）, silicon （Si） and potassium （K） of the ash and the ash melting temperature （Tmelt） of b.o-energy products like wood, agro and sludge pellets （n = 164）. Using PCA and linear regression analyses a good prediction of the Tmelt can b. ob.ained b. using an easy to use formula： Ln [Tmelt] = 7.24 - 0.33 × Si - 0. 70 × K ＋ 1.28 × K × Ca （v.riance accounted for is 72%）. The new formula giv. much b.tter predictions of the ash Tmelt of wood pellets and other solid b.o-energy or b.ofuel products than prev.ous fits. As expected Ca plays an important positiv. role. K and Si sink the Tmelt. Other metals play a less dominant role, such as iron （Fe）, aluminium （Al） and magnesium （Mg）. The new insight was put into practice b. showing that b. adding Flourb.nd, a pressing aid high in Ca, the Tmelt of wood pellet ash can b. increased. It is env.saged that an elev.ted ash Tmelt reduces the risk of slagging of solid b.ofuels.
