AIM:To compare the efficacies of patching and penalization therapies for the treatment of amblyopia ***:The records of 64 eyes of 50 patients 7 to16y of age who had presented to our clinics with a diagnosis of amblyopia,were evaluated *** eyes of 26 patients who had received patching therapy and 24 eyes of 24 patients who had received penalization therapy included in this *** latencies and amplitudes of visual evoked potential(VEP)records and best corrected visual acuities(BCVA)of these two groups were compared before and six months after the ***:In both patching and the penalization groups,the visual acuities increased significantly following the treatments(Pof the P100 wave obtained at 1.0°,15 arc *** of both groups significantly decreased following the ***,the amplitude measurements increased(PoNCLUSIoN:The patching and the penalization methods,which are the main methods used in the treatment of amblyopia,were also effective over the age of 7y,which has been accepted as the critical age for the treatment of amblyopia.

Currently,large numbers of clinical trials are performed to investigate different forms of experimental therapy for patients suffering from chronic spinal cord injury(SCI).However,for the enrollment process,there are different views on how the time period between injury and interventions should be ***,we sought to evaluate the impact of time-to-enrollment in chronic SCI clinical trials.A data set comprising 957 clinical studies from clinical *** was downloaded and analyzed focusing on the eligibility criteria for post-injury *** also aggregated individual patient data from nine clinical trials of regenerative interventions for chronic SCI selected by a systematic literature search from 1990 to *** of the studies were assessed and compared by dividing into three groups based on time-to-enrollment(group 1≤12 months,group 2=12-23 months and group 3≥24 months).In clinical *** registry,445 trials were identified for chronic SCI where 87%(385)were unrestricted in the maximum post-injury time for trial *** systematic literature search,nine studies and 156 patients(group 1=30,group 2=55 and group 3=71)were *** range of time-to-enrollment was 0.5 to 321 months in those *** also observed various degrees of motor and sensory improvement in between three time-to-enrollment *** results indicate that enrolling wide ranges of time-to-enrollment in a group may present imprecise *** trial designs should consider appropriate postinjury time frames to evaluate therapeutic benefit.

Rib cartilage is the most reliable material for structural support and dorsal augmentation in Asian rhinoplasty with its robust strength and bountiful amount. Its value is incomparable especially in complex, cartilage-depleted revision surgery or major reconstruction. There are many articles regarding harvesting and carving of rib cartilage in rhinoplasty,however, only few has focused on preoperative and postoperative issues. Preoperatively, evaluating cartilage availability, assessing quality and quantity of cartilage, and choosing the cartilage to harvest are necessary. Although easily overlooked, proper postoperative management of rib cartilage rhinoplasty patients is key to prevent infection and heighten patient satisfaction. Here in, I would like to introduce how I evaluate rib cartilage rhinoplasty patients preoperatively and manage them postoperatively to maximize the surgical results.

AIM: To study the possible association between chronic pancreatitis (CP) and liver cirrhosis (LC) of alcoholic etiology,after excluding any other ***: one hundred and forty consecutive alcoholic patients were subdivided into three groups: CP (n = 53),LC (n = 57),and asymptomatic alcoholic (n = 30).clinical,biochemical and morphological characteristics,Child-Pugh index,indocyanine green test,and fecal pancreatic elastase-1 test were ***: In patients with cirrhosis,major clinical manifestations of CP such as pancreatic pain and steatorrhea,as well as imaging alterations of CP such as calcifications,duct dilation and pseudocysts were absent; insulin-dependent diabetes was present in 5.3% of cases,and elastase-1 test was altered in only 7%,and severely altered in *** patients with CP,clinical characteristics of cirrhosis such as ascites,encephalopathy and gastrointestinal hemorrhage were present in one case,Child-Pugh grade > A in 5.7%,and altered indocyanine green test in 1.9% *** asymptomatic alcoholism,there was only a non-coincident alteration of elastase-1 test and indocyanine test in 14.8% and 10%,respectively,but other characteristics of cirrhosis or CP were *** inverse correlation (r = -0.746) between elastase-1 test and indocyanine test was found in alcoholic ***: There is a scarce coincidence in clinical and morphological alterations among patients with CP or LC of alcoholic etiology,but an inverse correlation between pancreatic and liver function *** findings support that these alcoholic diseases evolve in a different manner and have different etiopathogenesis.

Background:Children with congenital heart disease(CHD),even after surgical approaches,and especially those who undergo staged procedures in theﬁrst months of life,remain vulnerable to readmissions and complications,requiring very close monitoring and differentiated intervention ***:Descriptive and exploratory study,of the experience report type,which presents the process of building the high-risk outpatient clinic for complex congenital heart diseases(AAR)at the Instituto do Coração(InCor).Results:Report of the path taken to structure the AAR,demonstrating the organization,interface with the multidisciplinary team,admission and discharge criteria,training,and patient proﬁ*** theseﬁve years of care,275 patients were treated,59.65%with biventricular interstage physiology,followed by univentricular interstage physiology(34.55%),residual defects after surgical procedures(3.63%),tumors with risk of mechanical obstruction(1.45%)and patients with an intrauterine approach(0.72%).The signiﬁcant number of critical patients who were successfully discharged from hospital(44.72%),the low mortality rate due to sudden deaths at home and the high adherence to follow-up cor-roborate the impact of this specialized ***:Despite the limitations of the study,this experi-ence report showed that with few resources,there is the possibility of organizing an AAR with differentiated care,with the objective of early detection and treatment of residual injuries,identiﬁcation of early interventions,edu-cation of parents for follow-up of their children,resulting in individualized treatment,promoting a better quality of life for this population.

AIM: To compare two different anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(anti-VEGF) treatment regimens'-a priori pro re nata(PRN) and PRN regimen following^(th)e loading phaseanatomical and functional results in neovascular agerelated macular degeneration(n AMD) patients. METHoDS: Totally 544 n AMD patients followed and treated with aflibercept(n=135) and ranibizumab(n=409)at 9 different centers between 2013 and 2015 were enrolled into^(th)is retrospective multicenter study. Patients with initial best corrected visual acuity(BCVA) interval of 1.3-0.3(log MAR) and a minimum follow-up of 12 mo were included. Patients under two different regimens-a priori pro re nata(1+PRN) or 3 consecutive intravitreal injections followed by a PRN regimen(3+PRN)-were compared in BCVA at 3^(th), 6^(th) and 12^(th) months, and in central macular^(th)ickness(CMT) at 6^(th) and 12^(th) months. The total study group, intravitreal ranibizumab(IVR) and intravitreal aflibercept(IVA) groups were evaluated separately. RESULTS: The mean CMT decreased in^(th)e 1+PRN(n=101) regimen from 407 to 358 and 340 μm and in^(th)e 3+PRN(n=443) group from 398 to 318 and finally to 310 μm at months 6 and 12, respectively. Anatomically,^(th)e CMT reduction at 6^(th) month(48.5 vs 76.4;Por of 3+PRN group. BCVA changed in 1+PRN group from 0.77 to 0.78, 0.75 and 0.75;in 3+PRN group from 0.81 to 0.69, 0.72, and 0.76 at months 3, 6, and 12, respectively. Visual gain was statistically better in 3+PRN group at 3^(th) month(-0.01 vs 0.12;Poup, CMT reduction was in greater in 3+PRN at 6^(th)(44 vs 72) and 12^(th) month(61 vs 84), but statistically insignificant. The 3+PRN group revealed statistically better visual results at 3^(th) month(-0.02 vs 0.11, Poup, although statistically insignificant, CMT reduction(61 vs 89, 6^(th) month;85 vs 97, 12^(th) month) and visual gain(0.02 vs 0.16;0.02 vs 0.14;0.05 vs 0.11) was found in favor of 3+PRN group
