Background. In Côte d.Ivoire so far, the circulating haplotypes have been inferred.on the phenotypic profiling of SCd.patients. The impact of the circulating haplotypes on the use of Hydr.xyurea has not been assessed.yet. Therefore the objective of this stud. is to id.ntify in Abid.an the HbS haplotypes that mod.late HU treatment responses. Method.: In a cross-sectional d.scriptive and.analytical stud., childr.n aged.5 to 15 years with SCd. and.carrying the hemoglobin phenotypes SSFA2 and.SFA2, were recruited.into a HU treatment cohort. Various parameters on the haplotypes and.the outcomes of the treatment were analyzed. Results: Thirty nine childr.n with SCd.were includ.d. The phenotypic profile of the cohort was 86.6% of SSFA2 and.15.4% of SFA2. Three haplotypes were found. the Benin haplotype, the Senegal haplotype, and.an atypical one. The participants belonged.to three genotypes, Benin/atypical (64.1%), Benin/Senegal (33.3%) and.Senegal/Senegal (2.6%). Overall, HU treatment was successful in all haplotypes with 12 out of 39 patients failing treatment after 12 months in the Benin haplotype group. The association between HU treatment success and.the Benin haplotype was found.in terms of the d.crease in the number of white blood.cells and.the stud.nts missing class. Conclusion: The stud. revealed.that inferring haplotype based.on the phenotypic profile could.be inaccurate. The proportion of atypical haplotype that were not previously d.scribed.in Côte d.Ivoire was high. All the haplotypes seemed.to be associated.with HU treatment success but some patients with Benin haplotype d.d.not respond.well.

Selenium is a trace element that can have both beneficial and.harmful effects on aquatic life. The Aby Lagoon is a coastal environment in Côte d.Ivoire that receives selenium inputs from various natural and.anthropogenic sources. The aim of this stud. was to assess the levels of selenium in the sed.ments of the Aby Lagoon and.its tributaries, the Tanoe River and.the Tend. Lagoon, and.to examine the spatial and.seasonal variations of selenium concentrations. Sed.ment samples were collected.from d.fferent sites and.seasons, and.selenium concentrations were measured.by atomic fluorescence spectrometry. The results showed.that the average concentration of selenium in the sed.ments of the Aby Lagoon was 0.82 mg/kg, ind.cating mod.rate contamination. The concentration of selenium varied.between sites and.seasons, with higher values in the channel of the Tend. Lagoon and.d.ring the dr. season. The stud. highlighted.the complexity of selenium d.namics in aquatic ecosystems, and.the need.to take into account seasonal and.spatial variability as well as interactions between environmental factors. The stud. also suggested.potential ecotoxicological risks for some sensitive organisms in certain areas of the lagoon. This stud. contributes to the knowled.e of the d.namics of selenium in lagoon ecosystems and.to the assessment of the environmental risks associated.with its presence.

Antibiotic resistance has become a major threat to human health world.id.. Environment, particularly the water environment, has long been overlooked.as a player in the antibiotic resistance cycle, although its role remains unclear. These can provid. an id.al setting for the acquisition and.d.ssemination of antibiotic resistance, as they are frequently affected.by anthropogenic activities. The objective of this stud. was to establish a d.ffusion map of resistance integrons used.as genetic markers of resistance associated.with antibiotic resistance conferring genes (ARGs). Total d.A extracts from non-cultivable bacterial communities were used.for the analyses. These communities were obtained.from wastewater samples from 14 sites upstream and.d.wnstream of dr.inage channels or effluents in the cities of Abid.an, Bouaké, and.Yamoussoukro. The results obtained.correspond.to the number of positives among the treated.samples (n = 39). Among the genetic markers of d.ssemination, class 1 integrons were the most evid.nt in 94.8% of samples in Abid.an (93.3%), Bouaké (100%) and.Yamoussoukro (91.6%). Class 2 integrons and.class 3 integrons were found.respectively in 41% and.51% of all samples. Genes cod.ng for β-lactamases and.blaTEM was id.ntified.in almost all samples at a rate of 97.4%. A co-presence of the three genes blaTEM, blaSHV and.blaCTX-M is also remarkable in the sites of the city of Yamoussoukro. Among the genes cod.ng for carbapenemases, only blaKPC 17.94%, blaNd. 30.76% and.blaOXA48 38.46% were d.tected.in the samples.

The aim of this stud. is to prod.ce large quantities of yam tubers in the field.from seed.tubers d.rived.from vitroplants regenerated.from aerial stem cuttings and.farmers’ tuber seed.. Seed.tubers from ten yam cultivars, includ.ng five from d.oscorea alata (cd.083, cd.053, cd.115, cd.150 and.cd.266) and.five from d.oscorea cayenensis-rotund.ta (cdr.15, cdr.27, cdr.50, cdr.06 and.cdr.48) with d.stinct agro-morphological characteristics, were used.as material. A completely rand.mized.block d.sign with 3 replications was used. In each block, all cultivars and.seed.types were represented. When put into cultivation, the tubers prod.ced.by the vitroplants all germinated.and.gave 100% healthy plants, compared.with 86% to 100% healthy plants for the seed.tubers prod.ced.by the farmers. Yield. per hectare ranged.from 10 to 25 tonnes for seed.tubers prod.ced.by in vitro plants, and.from 4 to 9 tons for seed.tubers prod.ced.by farmers. Seed.tubers from vitroplants can therefore be recommend.d.to farmers as a solution to the problem of seed.tuber unavailability.

Materials and.Method.: 20 patients und.rwent a combination repair for umbilical hernia. The results were tabulated.and.analysed. Results: None of the 20 patients d.veloped.any recurrence. Conclusion: A combined.mesh reinforcement of tissue repair is ad.ocated.for umbilical hernias in ad.lts.

Thickening progression mechanism of silica fume-oil well cement composite system at high temperatures

This work stud.ed.the thickening progression mechanism of the silica fume-oil well cement composite system at high temperatures(110-180.C) in ord.r to provid. a theoretical guid.nce for the rational application of silica fume in the cementing engineering. Results showed.that silica fume seld.m affected.the thickening progression of oil well cement slurry at 110-120.C, but when temperature reached.above130.C, it would.aggravate the bulging d.gree of thickening curves and.significantly extend.the thickening time, meanwhile causing the abnormal “temperature-based.thickening time reversal” and.d.sage-based.thickening time reversal” phenomena in the range of 130-160.C and.170-180.C respectively. At 130-160.C, the thickening time of oil well cement slurry was mainly associated.with the generation rate of calcium hydr.xid.(CH) crystal. The introd.ced.silica fume would.be attracted.to the cement minerals' surface that were hydr.ting to prod.ce CH and.agglomerate together to form an“ad.orptive barrier” to hind.r further hydr.tion of the inner cement minerals. This “ad.orptive barrier”effect strengthened.with the rising temperature which extend.d.the thickening time and.caused.the occurrence of the “temperature-based.thickening time reversal” phenomenon. At 170-180.C, the pozzolanic activity of silica fume significantly enhanced.and.consid.rable amount of C-S-H was generated. thus the “temperature-based.thickening time reversal” vanished.and.the “d.sage-based.thickening time reversal” was presented.
