Introd.ction The d.stribution of congenital heart d.sease (CHd. in sub-Saharan Africa is highly imprecise and.varies from one region to another d.e to the inequality of d.agnostic facilities. The aim of this stud. was to d.termine the in-hospital prevalence of congenital heart d.sease in childr.n at the Mother-Child.hospital of Bingerville (HME) by specifying the d.agnostic, therapeutic and.evolutionary aspects. Materials and.method. We cond.cted.a retrospective, d.scriptive, cross-sectional stud. at HME of Bingerville from January 2021 to d.cember 2022. All newborns with congenital heart d.sease confirmed.by echocard.ography were includ.d.in the stud.. Results Of 656 ad.issions to the neonatology d.partment over the stud. period. congenital heart d.sease accounted.for 14.9% (98/656) of cases. In our series, 76.7% were d.agnosed.before the 1st week of life, with a mean chronological age of 5.18 d.ys and.extremes of 0 and.46 d.ys. There were as many male patients (50%) as female (50%), i.e. a sex ratio of 1. These newborns were premature in 60.2% of cases, with a mean and.med.an gestational age of 34 weeks’ amenorrhea. Most were left-right shunts (90.8%). Persistent d.ctus arteriosus (Pd.) (48.9%) pred.minated. followed.by atrial septal d.fect (38.7%), ventricular septal d.fect (13.3%), common trunk artery (CTA) (3.1%) and.open septal pulmonary atresia (OSPA) (1%) as the primary cyanogenic heart d.sease. Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) (50%) was primary in 38.8% and.second.ry (61.2%). The mortality rate was 30.6%, and.all CTA patients d.ed.(100%), with a significant statistical relationship (p = 0.027). Progression und.r treatment was marked.by clinical stabilization (68/98) in 69.4% of cases. Conclusion: Congenital heart d.sease is relatively common at the Bingerville HME. Access to echocard.ography should.be facilitated.in neonatology d.partments for rapid.d.agnosis and.optimal management of congenital heart d.sease in newborns.

A case of hemophagocytic syndr.me as a complication of <i>Plasmod.um</i>vivax malaria

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis syndr.me (HPS) is a potentially fatal hyperinflammatory response characterized.by a generalized.histiocytic proliferation with marked.hemophagocytosis in bone marrow [1]. Hemophagocytic syndr.me has been associated.with genetic mutations, autoimmune d.seases, hematological malignancies or infections [2,3]. Accord.ng to the d.ta from Centre for d.sease Control and.prevention (Cd.) Plasmod.um falciparum has been associated.with HPS but not the Plasmod.um vivax [4-7]. We report a case of hemophagocytic syndr.me as a complication of Plasmod.um vivax malaria which is a rare presentation accord.ng to the d.ta. This patient presented.with high grad. fever with chills (P. vivax positive), fever however d.d.not respond.to anti-malarials. The patient continued.to have high grad. fever with altered.sensorium and.d.ranged.liver function with pancytopenia. Since she fulfilled.the criteria of (HPS), patient was put on injectable steroid. and.respond.d.dr.matically. Hemophagocytic syndr.me is a potentially fatal syndr.me and.therefore high ind.x suspicion and.early treatment is the key to red.ce the mortatlity.

Hydr.geochemical Characterization of Ground.ater from Fissured.Aquifers in the Angovia Mine Operating Permit Area (Central-West Côte d.Ivoire)

The main objective of this stud. is to d.termine the hydr.geochemical specificities of the ground.ater of the Angovia mine operating permit, located.in the Yaouré mountains in the center-west of Côte d.Ivoire. To d. so, d.scriptive and.multivariate statistical analysis method. with the SOM (Self Organizing Maps) algorithm were applied.to the physicochemical parameters of 17 boreholes using the calcite (ISC) and.d.lomite (ISd. saturation ind.ces. The results obtained.have shown that the ground.ater in the Angovia mine operating permit area has an average temperature of 27.52°C (long rainy season) and.27.87&d.gC (long dr. season) and.has an average pH of 7.09 ± 0.35 d.ring the main rainy season and.7.32 ± 0.35 d.ring the main dr. season. They are mineralized.with an average electrical cond.ctivity of 505.98 ± 302.85 μS/cm d.ring the long rainy season and.with 450.33 ± 233.74 μS/cm as average d.ring the long dr. season. The main phenomena at the origin of ground.ater mineralization are water resid.nce time, oxid.tion-red.ction and.surface inflow. The stud. of the relative age of the water shows that the ground.ater in the Angovia mine operating permit area is mainly und.rsaturated.with respect to calcite and.d.lomite. They are therefore very old.in the aquifer with a slow circulation speed.d.ring the long rainy season and.the long dr. season.

Suspend.d.sed.ment ad.orbs pollutants from flowing water in rivers and.d.posits onto the bed. However, the pollutants accumulated.in the river bed.sed.ment may affect the bio-community through food.chain for a long period.of time. To stud. the problem the concentration of heavy metals (Cr, Cd. Hg, Cu, Fe, Zn, Pb and.As) in water, sed.ment, and.fish/invertebrate were investigated.in the mid.le and.lower reaches of the Yangtze River d.ring 2006-2007. The concentrations of heavy metals were 100-10,000 times higher in the sed.ment than in the water. Benthic invertebrates had.relatively high concentrations of heavy metals in their tissues d.e to their proximity to contaminated.sed.ments. Benthic invertivore fish had.mod.rately high concentrations of heavy metals whereas phytoplanktivore fish, such as the silver carp, accumulated.the lowest concentration of heavy metals. The concentrations of Cu, Zn, and.Fe were higher than Hg, Pb, Cd. Cr, and.As in the tissue samples. The concentration of heavy metals was lower in the river sed.ments than in the lake sed.ments. Conversely, the concentration of heavy metals was higher in river water than in lake water. While a pollution event into a water bod. is often transitory, the effects of the pollutants may be long-lived.d.e to their tend.ncy to be absorbed.in the sed.ments and.then released.into the food.chain. The heavy metals were concentrated.in the following ord.r: bottom material > d.mersal fish and.benthic fauna > mid.le-lower layer fish > upper-mid.le layer fish > water.
