The number of students demanding computer science(CS)education is rapidly rising,and while faculty sizes are also growing,the traditional pipeline consisting of a CS major,a CS master’s,and then a move to industry or a *** is simply not *** addr.ss this problem,the Department of Computing at the University of Illinois has introduced a multidisciplinary approach to computing,which is a sca.a.le and collaborative approach to capitalize on the tremendous demand for computer science *** key component of the approach is the blended major,also referred to as“CS+X”,where CS denotes computer science and X denotes a non-computing *** CS+X blended degrees enable win-win partnerships among multiple subject areas,distributing the educational responsibilities while growing the entire *** meet the demand from non-CS majors,another pathway that is offered is a graduate certificate program in addition to the traditional minor *** accommodate the large number of students,sca.a.le teaching tools,such as automatic graders,have also been developed.

本文比较研究了草原田鼠和草甸田鼠自然种群在不同密度周期时相雌鼠攻击水平的变化。结果表明,不同密度时相,草原田鼠种群中攻击雌鼠所占比例以及接近、威胁、进攻、退避,进攻/接近等5种行为变量均无显著的差异,5种行为变量与种群密度亦均不呈显著的线形相关关系。然而,草甸田鼠在不同密度时相攻击雌鼠的比例差异显著。低密度时相,雌鼠发生威胁行为的平均次数显著高于上升和衰减时相,进攻行为的平均次数亦显著高于其它时相。本研究结果不支持有关田鼠种群在一个完整的周期过程中具有多态性行为的假设。

There is considerable variation in the expression of severe preeclampsia. Our purpose was to determine if this is associated with maternal race or ethnicity. Study design: Individual chart review was performed for women diagnosed with severe preeclampsia.a. a tertiary care center from 1993 to 2003. Demographic, clinical, and lab findings from diagnosis (Dx) to 6 weeks’ postpartum (PP) were documented. Da.a.were compared between Caucasian, African American, and Hispanic women. Da.a.were presented for the total cohort if no significant difference was found. Results: We evaluated 473 pregnancies: 201 (Caucasian), 216 (African American), and 56 (Hispanic). Groups had similar baseline cha.a.teristics: chronic hypertension (HTN), diabetes, and initial antena.a. blood pressure (mean BP 118/68). Caucasian women were older (27 vs 24 yrs), more likely nulliparous (63 vs 49% ), and had more multiple gestations (9 vs 1.5% ), P a.a.e aminotransferase >60 mg/dL were more common in Caucasian women at Dx (9 vs 12% , 11 vs 21% ) and at delivery (14 vs 24% , 19 vs 34% ), P a.a.tum (12 vs 6% ), PP (38 vs 12% ), and at discharge (35 vs 21% ), P dr.me (29 vs 19% , P = .01). Eclampsia, intrauterine fetal demise, intrauterine growth restriction, abruption, PP preeclampsia, and recurrent preeclampsia were similar between groups. While machine learning has emerged in recent years as a useful tool for the rapid prediction of materials properties,generating sufficient da.a.to reliably train models without overfitting is often *** overcoming this limitation,we present a general framework for leveraging complementary information across different models and da.a.ets for accurate prediction of da.a.scarce materials *** approach,based on a machine learning pa.a.igm called mixture of experts,outperforms pairwise transfer learning on 14 of 19 materials property regression tasks,performing compa.a.ly on four of the remaining *** approach is interpretable,model-agnostic,and sca.a.le to combining an arbitrary number of pre-trained models and da.a.ets to any downstream property prediction *** anticipate the performance of our framework will further improve as better model architectures,new pre-training tasks,and larger materials da.a.ets are developed by the community.

本文总结了橙腹田鼠(Microtus ochrogaster)和草原田鼠(M. pennsylvanicus)25年的种群统计学研究结果和结论。探讨了田鼠种群波动周期性、诱发种群波动以及导致波动期间峰值变异的因素。并对种群存活值和繁殖活动的作用进行了分析和评价。根据两种田鼠种群波动周期性、波动峰值出现的时间以及特定年份峰值的高度等特征,证明两物种波动均具有不稳定性。两种田鼠存活值的变化是由特定年份是否发生波动以及波动峰值出现的时间决定。增加初始阶段的种群密度及时间长度是造成两种动物种群波动峰值不同的主要原因。橙腹田鼠种群停止增长的原因是存活值降低,而草原田鼠则是繁殖活动减少。据推测,与种群波动初始密度相关的种群死亡率的差异是由捕食者的净效应(Net effect)决定的,调控两种群密度的因素均为非密度的其它生态学因子。由于特定年份田鼠种群捕食压力的不确定性,导致了橙腹田鼠和草原田鼠种群波动的不稳定性。

检验了延迟的密度依赖对橙腹田鼠 (Microtusochrogaster)一个波动种群的生存和生殖的影响 ,研究持续了 63个月 ,取样间隔为 3 5天。在研究期间 ,该种群的密度经历了 4次波动 ,每次波动的高峰都在 11月至次年 1月 ,种群数量在冬季下降。生存和生殖都有负面的密度依赖效应 ,最大效应具有 2个月的时滞。种群存活率增长对种群密度最大的正面效应具有 2个月的时滞 ,而对与增加生殖则有 3个月的时滞。内部因素和冬季都可能推延对生殖的密度依赖效应 ,但是本文未能检验这些内部因素的影响。季节性影响看来与对生存的延缓性密度依赖效应无关。负面的延缓性密度依赖效应对生存和生殖的净作用可能在于减少。

Conflict is an in here nt part of social life in group-living species. Group members may mediate conflict through submissive and affiliative behaviors, which can reduce aggression, stabilize dominance hierarchies, and foster group cohesion. The frequency and resolution of within-group conflict may vary with the presenee of neighboring groups. Neighbors can threaten the territory or resources of the whole group, promoting behaviors that foster within-group cohesion. However, neighbors may also foster conflict of interests among group members: opportunities for subordinate dispersal may alter conflict among dominants and subordinates while opportunities for extra.a.r reproduction may increase conflict between mates. To understand how neighbors mediate within-group conflict in the cooperatively breeding fish Neolamprologus pulcher, we measured behavioral dynamics and social network structure in isolated groups, groups recently exposed to neighbors, and groups with established neighbors. Aggression and submission between the dominant male and female pair were high in isolated groups, but dominant aggression was directly primarily at subordinates when groups had neighbors. This suggests that neighbors attenuate conflict between mates and foster conflict between dominants and subordinates. Further, aggression and submission between similarly sized group members were most frequent when groups had neighbors, suggesting that neighbors induce rank-related conflict. We found relatively little change in within-group affiliative networks across treatments, suggesting that the presence of neighbors does not alter behaviors associated with promoting group cohesion. Collectively, these results provide some of the first empirical insights into the extent to which intragroup behavioral networks are mediated by intergroup interactions and the broader social context.
