Comparison of Bank Profitability in China and the UsA

This paper examines and compares the profitability of banks in the UsA and China. The UsA has the largest market-based banking system and the financial system of China is still bank-based. Our analysis indicates that in terms of profitability, banks in China outperformed those in the UsA during our study period (2008–2014). Real estate loans had an adverse effect on Us bank profitability during the financial crisis and no effect after the crisis but consistently improved the profitability of chinese banks. Interest margins have no effect on Us bank profitability but a consistently positive effect on chinese banks, confirming that China is a traditional bank-based economy. Interbank loans have a positive and significant effect on chinese bank profitability, while interbank domestic loans have a negative effect on Us bank profitability. Finally, size had a positive effect on Us banks after the financial crisis period, confirming the scale economies of large Us banks, but a negative effect on chinese banks, indicating diseconomies of scale.

Using a computational general equilibrium model, we analyze the impacts of chinese real exchange rate appreciation on the trade balance of China and the UsA and on various industries of both countries, We use several scenarios with 2.1, 6 and 12percent real exchange rate appreciations for our simulation analysis. The results indicate that China＇s exchange rate appreciation might not solve the enlarging Us current account deficits. chinese outputs in both primary and manufacture sectors will increase, whereas the outputs of energy and serviees sectorx will be adversely affected. The price of value-added products declines in light of the renminbi appreciation.

The goal of the present paper is to examine how the expansion of the economy from 2000 has affected rural off-farm labor market participation. specifically, we seek to determine whether off-farm labor increased after 2000, what forms of employment are driving trends in off-farm labor and whether gender differences can be observed in off- farm employment trends. Using a nationally representative dataset that consist of two waves of surveys conducted in 2000 and 2008 in six provinces, this paper finds that off- farm labor market participation continued to rise steadily in the early 2000s. However, there is a clear difference in the trends associated with occupational choice before and after 2000. In addition, we find that rural oy^farm employment trends are diffbrent for men and women. Our analysis also shows that the rise of wage-earning employment corresponds with an increasing unskilled wage for both men and women.

We have reviewed and identified the key problems of China＇s corporate governance. several suggestions are provided to improve its governance mechanism. A review of corporate governance models among different countries suggests that the state ownership of the chinese companies should be reduced and shares that are split into tradable and nontradable shares should be abolished. The three-tier board structure and duty of directors should be restructured to improve transparency and disclosure requirements.

Formulation and characterization of extruded and spheronized pellets using pectin and crosslinking agents

The aim of this study was to prepare pellets of gliclazide by extrusion spheronization process by use of two methods in situ cross linking method and interfacial complexation method and to study the effect of different cross linking agents on the formed pellets. Extrusion/spheronization being an established technique for producing spherical pellets so this technique was used to prepare pellets. The gliclazide pellets prepared by extrusion-spheronization techniques and then the formed pellets were coated with pectin solution by interfacial complexation method. The effect of cross-linkers calcium chloride and aluminium chloride concentration, by in situ cross linking on properties of gliclazide pellets like swelling and drug release were studied. The formed pellets were subjected to swelling, analysis of morphology, in dissolution and vivo studies. Most of the pellets were of acceptable shape. From the results calcium chloride when coated with pectin, retarded drug release. As the concentration of calcium chloride increased, it led to slow release of the drug. This may be due to the water solubility of calcium salt, which induced cross linking with pectin. Thus pellets with calcium chloride cross linked with pectin were beneficial, because it retarded the release of the drug. Though the release from interfacial coated pellets was retarded, it was less as compared to the in situ formed pellets. The in vivo studies on alloxan-induced diabetic rats indicated the significant hypoglycemic effect that was observed 24 h after oral administration of optimized pellets. Thus, the developed and optimized pellets were suitable for prolonged systemic absorption of gliclazide to maintain lower blood glucose level and improved patient compliance. The results suggested that the in situ cross linking pellets were able to retard the release of gliclazide greater than the interfacial complexation method. Therefore, this approach has been effectively achieved.

On October 9, a delegation of chinese academics led by professor Jin Bei, Director of the Institute of Industrial Economics at the chinese Academy of social sciences, traveled to sweden as the guests of stockholm University for one week, a trip that happened to coincide with the awarding of the Nobel prize in economics. On the afternoons of October 10th and October 12th, the delegation had the privilege to have two conversations with Per Krusell, Chairman of the Nobel Committee and a renowned professor at the Institute for International Economic studies (IIEs) at stockholm University. dr. Krusell, originally from sweden, has taught at several of the world's leading universities, including Princeton University.
