Therapeutics of Integrative medicine Ameliorate Immunological Disorders of the Nervous System: A Meta-Analysis

Objective: The objective of the study is to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of integrative medicine in the treatment of immunological disorders of the nervous system. Methods: The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines were adopted to conduct this study, which included randomized controlled trials with a confirmed diagnosis of multiple sclerosis(MS), myasthenia gravis(MG), and Guillain–Barre syndrome(GBS), all of which were treated with integrative medicine. The effective rate, recurrent frequency, and disease score were used as the markers of outcome variables for the meta-analysis. Results: A total of 48 randomized control trials were included. The effective rates of treatment with integrative medicine were noticeably higher than those with Western medicine alone for the three diseases. The recurrence frequency for MS and the recurrence rate for MG treated with integrative medicine were reduced more than those with Western medicine alone. The Extended Disability Status Scale, acetylcholine receptor antibody, and Hughes scores for MS, MG, and GBS, respectively, treated with integrative medicine were significantly lower than those with Western medicine alone. The risks of bias in the literature evaluation showed that the quality of the included studies was not high. Conclusions: Compared to treatment with Western medicine alone, integrative medicine might ameliorate immunological disorders of the nervous system.

Chinese medicine Education and Its Challenges in the United States

Over the past 4 decades Chinese medicine （CM） has comeincreasingly into the spotlight in the United States as the clinical effectiveness ofCM has been not only empirically well-tested over a long period of time but alsoproven by recent scientific research. It has proven cost effectiveness, safety, andis authorized for natural and holistic approaches. In consideration, CM is one of theunderutilized health care professions in the United States with a promising ***, CM faces many challenges in its education and system, its niche in thehealth care system as an independent profession, legal and ethical issues. This paperdiscusses the confronting issues in the United States： present education, standardsof CM education with shifting first professional degree level, new delivery systemsof CM education. Development of new research models, training of evidence-basedpractice, and implementation of integrative medicine into CM education also are the key issues in the currentCM profession. This paper also discusses opportunities for the CM profession going beyond the current status,especially with a focus on fusion medicine.

acupuncture promotes functional recovery after cerebral hemorrhage by upregulating neurotrophic factor expression

Objective:The objective of this study is to systematically review and analyze the efficacy of acupuncture for pain caused by primary liver cancer(PLC).Materials and Methods:We searched databases,including PubMed,Medline,Embase,Cochrane Library,Web of Science,China National Knowledge Infrastructure,Chinese Science and Technology Periodicals Database(VIP),Wanfang,and SinoMed/Chinese Biomedical Database(CBM),and retrieved randomized controlled trials(RCTs)that used acupuncture as the primary intervention to treat pain caused by *** investigators then screened the articles,extracted and pooled data,and evaluated the risk of bias of the included articles according to the Cochrane ***5.3 was used for the meta-analysis of eligible ***:A total of 145 articles were retrieved;after screening,8 RCTs involving 496 patients were eventually included in this *** results showed that acupuncture effectively improved cancer pain and was superior to Western ***,acupuncture was fast-acting for pain relief,prolonged the relief,and prevented *** adverse reaction rate was also significantly lower than that of Western *** significant difference was observed in Visual Analog Scale score between acupuncture and Western ***:acupuncture relieves pain caused by liver cancer and can be used as an adjunct and alternative therapy for drug *** existing research evidence is not yet objective or comprehensive,and more rigorous clinical trials are needed to validate the results.

This article explores the mechanisms of acupuncture meridians by determining characteristics of the tissue fluid flow in the connective tissue along meridians. Based on deep dissection of acupoints on the upper and lower limbs of the human body and micro and macro observation and measurement, a mathematical model of the flow of tissue fluid in interosseous membranes is constructed. It is shown that the signal transmission along acupuncture meridians may be determined by unique anatomical and physiological factors that govern the flow of tissue fluid in the connective tissue and involve mast cell degranulation. Our results provide a preliminary explanation of the phenomenon of the ＂de qi＂ sensation and the mechanism of acupuncture signal transmission along acupuncture meridians.

Objective：To elucidate the mechanism of Chinese tuina in treating sciatic nerve crush injury,and to detect the levels of tissue plasminogen activator（t PA）and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1（PAI-1）,which is thought to play an important role in nerve ***：Thirty-two adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to sciatic nerve crush injury and 16 rats（sham-operated group）went through a sham *** group was given no treatment while tuina group received tuina therapy since day 7 *** treatment was performed once a day and lasted for 20 *** sciatic functional index was examined every 5days during the treatment *** rats＇gastrocnemius muscles were evaluated for changes in mass and immunohistochemistry techniques were performed to detect the levels of tP A and ***：Tuina therapy improved the motor function of sciatic nerve injured rats（P〈0.05）,however,it did not increase muscle volume（P〈0.05）.Tuina downregulated the levels of t PA and PAI-1（P〈0.05）.Conclusions：The present study implies that tuina treatment could accelerate rehabilitation of peripheral nerve injury.

Comparing outcomes from the two most recognized acupuncturist workforce surveys

OBJECTIVE： To determine the informational consistency produced by the two most recent independent surveys and draw a conclusion whether the data would be sufficient for the National Center for Health Workforce Analysis and Bureau of Labor and Statistics consideration. METHODS： This paper compares workforce outcomes collected by the two most prominent acupuncture entities that have produced the most useful acupuncturist workforce data （California acupuncture Board 2015 Occupational Analysis and the National Certification Commission of acupuncture and oriental medicine^2013 Job Analysis） at national and state levels. RESULTS： Findings based upon the most compatible survey questions showed the following： more than 70% of acupuncturists work fewer than 40 hours weekly; approximately 76% work in solo practice or in shared space with other acupuncturists; more than 70% of the national sample have been in practice 15 years or less; and median income is between $40 000 and $50 000. A preponderance of acupuncturists is less than 50 years of age, and fewer than 15% of all respondents have been in practice more than 20 years. CONCLUSION： Basic workforce information is a necessary precursor for conducting workforce projections. It is useful to track the expansion or contraction of any given profession. Tracking influences subsequent planning for the profession based upon reliable and valid information about its growth. The ability of the profession to collect its own workforce data is paramount to workforce projection models. Any future survey should be a shared project that follows guidelines supported by the National Center for Health Workforce Analysis.

Effect of miniscalpel-needle on relieving the pain of myofascial pain syndrome: a systematic review

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect and safety of miniscalpel-needle(MSN) on reducing the pain of myofascial pain syndrome(MPS).METHODS: We reviewed the available literatures inception up to February 2014 using Pubmed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure Database, Chinese Biomedical Database and Wanfang ***: Eight randomized controlled trials were finally identified. The main controls involved acupuncture, medications, injection, massage and cupping. We found that all of the studies agreed on the potential benefit of MSN as a strategy for MPS and the superiority compared to the controls, however,randomized methods applied in most of the trials could be criticized for their high or unclear risk of bias. Further research is also needed to clarify questions around the appropriate frequency and number of treatment sessions of ***: This review shows that MSN might have the effect on MPS, even though there were some limitations in the studies included in the review. Studies with robust methodology are warranted to further test its pain-relieving effect on MPS.

Combined acupuncture and HuangDiSan treatment affects behavior and synaptophysin levels in the hippocampus of senescence-accelerated mouse prone 8 after neural stem cell transplantation

Sanjiao acupuncture and HuangDiSan can promote the proliferation, migration and differentiation of exogenous neural stem cells in senescence-accelerated mouse prone 8 （SAMP8） mice and can improve learning and memory impairment and behavioral function in dementia-model mice. Thus, we sought to determine whether Sanjiao acupuncture and HuangDiSan can elevate the effect of neural stem cell transplantation in Alzheimer’s disease model mice. Sanjiao acupuncture was used to stimulate Danzhong （CV17）, Zhongwan （CV12）,Qihai （CV6）, bilateral Xuehai （SP10） and bilateral Zusanli （ST36） 15 days before and after implantation of neural stem cells （5 × 10^5） into the hippocampal dentate gyrus of SAMP8 mice. Simultaneously, 0.2 mL HuangDiSan, containing Rehmannia Root and Chinese Angelica,was intragastrically administered. Our results demonstrated that compared with mice undergoing neural stem cell transplantation alone,learning ability was significantly improved and synaptophysin mRNA and protein levels were greatly increased in the hippocampus of mice undergoing both Sanjiao acupuncture and intragastric administration of HuangDiSan. We conclude that the combination of Sanjiao acupuncture and HuangDiSan can effectively improve dementia symptoms in mice, and the mechanism of this action might be related to the regulation of synaptophysin expression.
