Comprehensive studies identify motor neuron spectrum disorders including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS)as globally rising fatal disorders with the highest prevalence in aging populations,influenced by ethnicity and ancestry(GBD 2016 Motor Neuron Disease Colla borators,2018).While~10% of diagnoses involve a family history(fALS),most cases are considered sporadic(sALS).However,population-based studies suggest that even cases without a common index mutation impart heritability(Ryan et al.,2019),indicating a crucial role of rare and as yet unknown genetic denominators.

AIM: To investigate the cytoprotective effects in hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury, we developed a new formulation of hyaluronic acid(HA) and sphingosine ***: We divided Sprague-Dawley rats into 4 groups: control, HA, sphingosine 1-phosphate(S1P), and HA-S1 P. After the administration of each agent, we subjected the rat livers to total ischemia followed by reperfusion. After reperfusion, we performed the following investigations: alanine aminotransferase(ALT), histological findings, Td T-mediated d UTP-biotin nick end labeling(TUNEL) staining, and transmission electron microscopy(TEM). We also investigated the expressionof proteins associated with apoptosis, hepatoprotection, and S1 P accumulation. RESULTS: S1 P accumulated in the HA-S1 P group livers more than S1 P group livers. Serum ALT levels, TUNEL-positive hepatocytes, and expression of cleaved caspase-3 expression, were significantly decreased in the HA-S1 P group. TEM revealed that the liver sinusoidal endothelial cell(LSEC) lining was preserved in the HA-S1 P group. Moreover, the HA-S1 P group showed a greater increase in the HO-1 protein levels compared to the S1 P ***: Our results suggest that HA-S1 P exhibits cytoprotective effects in the liver through the inhibition of LSEC apoptosis. HA-S1 P is an effective agent for hepatic ischemia/reperfusion injury.

Study of the Possible Use of a Home-Visit nursing Interventional Lymphedema Care program for Secondary Lymphedema in the Elderly at Home

Objective: This study aimed to clarify the possible use of and points to improve a home-visit nursing interventional lymphedema care program (plan) we developed. Methods: The subjects were visiting nurses with at least three years of home-visit nursing experience and experience with lymphedema care for the elderly at home. Semi-structured interviews were conducted, and the collected opinions were aggregated and summarized. Results: Based on interviews with nine subjects, opinions regarding the use of the program, such as “The assessment perspective at the time of introduction helps to grasp the needs for a wide variety of subjects”, and regarding points to improve, such as “It is necessary to set the duration and timing of the section considering the frequency of visits and degree of edema at the time of introduction” and “It is necessary to have a perspective concerning efforts to maintain motivation for care of the elderly and their families”, were aggregated. Discussion: The results of the interviews were generally useful for the structure and development of the program, care methods and content, and interventions for influencing factors. Consideration of setting the timing according to the degree of lymphedema, modification of the program’s development, development of a program that fully considers the degree of edema at the time of introduction and the acceptance of edema among the elderly, and the need to consider the care content that should be given priority were suggested as points for improvement.

Qualitative analysis of catechins from green tea GMB-4 clone using HPLC and LC-MS/MS

Objective:To identify the bioactive compounds in catechins isolation and its components from green tea GMB-4 ***:Green tea GMB-4 clones were extracted with distilled water at *** were eluted into the column with 10%***,the column was eluted with95%ethanol and evaporated *** tea extract was identified by thin layer *** were separated by the stationary phase in column chromatography using polyamide with 10%ethanol eluent and 95%*** results of isolations were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatographic(HPLC)and LCMS/*** of catechins by HPLC was done by external ***:Fraction from 10%ethanol showed that four major peaks at retention time of1.663,2.367,2.950 and 4.890,indicated the presence of four catechins components including catechin,epicatechins,gallocatechin and ***,fraction from 95%ethanol showed two main peaks at retention time of 5.167 and 9.82,which indicated the presence of epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG)and epicatechin gallate(ECG).EGCG(m/z 459),epigallocatechin(m/z 307),ECG(m/z 443),and epicatechin(m/z 291)were isolated and separated successfully using HPLC and LC-MS/***:The HPLC and LC-MS/MS methods were successfully tuned for the qualitative analysis of green tea extract with EGCG and *** major catechins were separated and identified by LC-MS/MS,such as EGCG,epigallocatechin,ECG and *** result of HPLC analysis showed that EGCG and ECG were main components from catechins isolation of green tea GMB-4 clone.

The Emotional Expression Response of a Patient Based on their Facial Expression—Focus on Music Stimuli

Objective: To determine whether patients with unresponsive wakefulness syndrome respond to auditory stimuli based on changes in facial expressions. Participants: Six patients diagnosed with disorders of consciousness due to brain injury with permission for participation from their doctor. Design: In this hypothesis-driven observational study, the facial expressions of patients with unresponsive wakefulness syndrome were video-recorded for 5 min before and during auditory stimulation in three consecutive weekly sessions. Main Measures: Facial muscle movement was quantified using FaceReader® software (Noldus, Wageningen, Netherlands). Valence/action unit values were plotted to detail facial expression changes. Heart rate values were also plotted. These parameters were compared before and after stimulation. Results: No significant differences in valence integral values or average heart rate were observed between the pre- and intra-stimulus conditions. However, valence signals increased in approximately half of the sessions, indicating that some patients with unresponsive wakefulness syndrome may exhibit emotional responses to auditory stimuli. Analysis of action unit integral values indicated that movement of the eyebrows and eyelids on the upper part of the face occurred during auditory stimulation. Furthermore, the types of auditory stimuli differed depending on the session for the 12 sessions of voice stimuli, whereas the changes in average heart rate differed in each of nine sessions of music stimuli. Because the changes in average heart rate were similar, it is possible that musical stimuli are more suitable than voice stimuli. Conclusion: Some patients with unresponsive wakefulness syndrome may have an emotional response to auditory stimuli. Our findings indicate that it may be possible to distinguish the emotional expression response of a patient based on their facial expression.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify specifics of self-management towards dealing with cancer pains among adult outpatients. Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 16 adult outpatients (9 males and 7 females) who suffered from cancer pain and the data obtained were analyzed using the qualitative synthesis method of KJ Ho. Results: An analysis of the results revealed these key findings for the following symbolic wording of the semi-structured interviews: Cooperative relationship with medical professionals;Problems originating from cancer pain;Self-regulation of analgesic medications based on the interactions with medical professionals;Self-regulation of the analgesic medications based on the physical perceptions of the effects;Self-regulation to maintain a balanced and calm mind, Fulfilling life by the pain alleviation and liberation from the restrictions imposed by the cancer;and Efforts to maintain their lives by themselves. Conclusion: Based on the cooperative relationship established with medical professionals, the patient carried out the self-regulation of cancer pain using analgesics, and self-regulation to maintain a balanced and calm mind. Nurses must therefore sufficiently educate patients regarding how to communicate successfully with medical professionals in order to improve cancer patients’ pain management regarding both physical and mental aspects.

Anti-oxidation behavior of chemical vapor reaction SiC coatings on different carbon materials at high temperatures

To protect carbon materials from oxidation,SiC coatings were prepared on carbon/carbon(C/C)composites and graphite by chemical vapor *** and XRD analyses show that the coatings obtained are composed of SiC grains and micro-crystals. The influence of different carbon substrates on oxidation behavior of coated samples was investigated,and then their oxidation mechanisms were *** test shows that the SiC coated graphite has a better oxidation resistance than SiC coated C/C composites at high temperatures(1 623 K and 1 823 K).In the oxidation process,the oxidation curves of SiC coated C/C composites are linear,while those of SiC coated graphite follow a quasi-parabolic *** oxidation mechanism of the former is controlled by chemical reaction while the latter is controlled by oxygen diffusion based on the experimental *** variation of oxidation behavior and mechanism of SiC coatings on two kinds of carbon substrates are primarily contributed to their structure differences.

Oxonitridosilicate phosphors with compositions of Y 1-xCexSiO2N （x=0-0. 1） were synthesized by a new synthetic route based on a solid state reaction among YSi, CeSi, SiO2 and Y203 compounds at high temperature and high pressure. The photohtminescence properties dependent on Ce concentration and temperature were investigated. Concentration quenching occurred when the doped Ce3＋ concentration was more than 3 tool.%. The emission spectra showed red shifts from 430 to 447 nm with the increased Ce concentration from 0.5 mol.% to 10 mol.%. The quenching temperature was estimated as ~380 K. The chromaticity coordinates of the excitation and emission spectra were stable against the temperature. This study showed these YSiO2N：Ce3＋ phosphors the potential applications in the three-RGB phosphor-converted white LEDs.

Decision-Making Process for the Place of Death of Elderly Patients with Advanced Cancer and Their Families

Purpose: This study aims to understand how elderly patients with advanced cancer and their families make a decision for a place of death for the patient. Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 17 pairs of elderly patients and members of their family. The patients had finished anticancer treatment and made some decision about the preferred place of death. A modified grounded-theory approach was used for the data analysis. Results: Making a “tentative” decision for the place of death of the elderly patients is a process with the core category [carefully choosing the final place for self-fulfillment]. The patients were “conducting a comprehensive review of the place of death” and “embracing the wishes for a way of life without difficulty”. Involving the family in making a “tentative” decision about the place of death of the elderly patients is the process with the core category [realizing the wish of patients in the terminal condition for the way for death]. The families were “examining the place of death from different aspects” and “respecting the patient’s intention as far as possible”. Conclusions: When the patients [carefully choosing the final place for self-fulfillment], it was important to reconcile their wishes with the burden on the families. When the families were trying to [realize the wish of patients in the terminal condition for the way for dying], it was important to balance the respect for the patient intentions and homecare they can provide for the patient. For the patients and their families, it is essential to mutually understand the intentions and wishes of the other party in decision making about the place of death.
