Patients with high tumor mutational burden(TMB)levels do not consistently respond to immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICIs),possibly because a high TMB level does not necessarily result in adequate infiltration of CD8^(+)T *** bulk ribonucleic acid sequencing(RNA-seq)data from 9311 tumor samples across 30 cancer types,we developed a novel tool called the modulator of TMB-associated immune infiltration(MOTIF),which comprises genes that can determine the extent of CD8^(+)T cell infiltration prompted by a certain TMB *** confirmed that MOTIF can accurately reflect the integrity and defects of the cancer-immunity *** analyzing 84 human single-cell RNA-seq datasets from 32 types of solid tumors,we revealed that MOTIF can provide insights into the diverse roles of various cell types in the modulation of CD8^(+)T cell *** pretreatment RNA-seq data from 13 ICI-treated cohorts,we validated the use of MOTIF in predicting CD8^(+)T cell infiltration and ICI *** the components of MOTIF,we identified EMC3 as a negative regulator of CD8^(+)T cell infiltration,which was validated via in vivo ***,MOTIF provided guidance for the potential combinations of programmed death 1 blockade with certain immunostimulatory drugs to facilitate CD8^(+)T cell infiltration and improve ICI efficacy.

Robust fiber-based frequency synchronization system immune to strong temperature fluctuation

In order to make the fiber-based frequency synchronization system suitable for the use of large-scale scientific and engineering projects in which the ambient temperature of the fiber links change dramatically, we design a non-harmonic frequency dissemination system immune to strong temperature fluctuation. After the lab tests, in which the ambient temperature of the fiber fluctuates 40°C/day and 20°C/h, respectively, the relative frequency stabilities of this system reaches 4.0 × 10-14∕s and 3.0 × 10-16∕104 s. It is demonstrated that the proposed non-harmonic scheme shows a strong robustness to complicated working environment with strong temperature fluctuation.

Dear Editor,Inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD)such as ulcerative colitis(UC)and Crohn's disease are affecting increasing numbers of patients worldwide.1 These chronic diseases significantly impact patients'quality of life as they are incurable and disabling.1 Patients with IBD have had an increasing rate of hospitalizations,half of all UC patients are hospitalized at least once during their lifetime,and readmissions after a UC-related hospitalization are common.

With concerns in energy crisis and global warming, researchers are actively investigating alternative energy renewable solutions. Among the various methods, piezoelectric transduction stands out due to its impressive electromechanical coupling factor and coefficient. As a result, piezoelectric energy harvesting has garnered significant attention from the scientific community. In this study, we explored methods to enhance the piezoelectric properties of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) through two distinct approaches. The first approach involved applying external high voltages at various stages during the mixture reaction. The goal was to determine whether this voltage application could alter or enhance PVDF’s piezoelectric conformation by improving the alignment of polarized dipoles. In the second part of our study, we investigated the effects of incorporating various nanostructures (including Iron Oxide, Magnesium Oxide, and Zinc Oxide) into PVDF. To analyze changes in PVDF’s crystalline structure, we utilized Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) techniques. Additionally, we measured the electric polarization of samples using a precision LC Meter and examined the morphology of nanofibers through Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM).

A new type of AlTiN coating containing about 29.13 at.% Al,16.02 at.% Ti and 54.85 at.% N was prepared by arc ion plating technology. The coating is composed of singular fcc-（Al, Ti）N phase and has no hcp-AlN phase to be formed. Due to the high content of beneficial element Al, the hardness and effective elastic modulus of the coating are up to 33.9 and 486.1 GPa, respectively. The adhesion strength between the coating and substrate is about 39.7 N. Electro- chemical test shows that the corrosion current density of the AlTiN coating is nearly one-sixth of the substrate, and the charge transfer resistance Rct of the AlTiN coating is much larger than that of the substrate, which means that the coating could act as a protective barrier between the substrate and corrosive electrolyte, enhancing the corrosion resistance.

Temporary storage/shipping of cell/tissue engineering products from bench to bedside is a key aspect of re-generative *** current proof-of-concept study presents a multipurpose device for temporary storage/shipping of cell culture dishes containing cell/tissue *** device,made with readily available raw ma-terials,contains three elements viz.a specialized lid,polymeric plates having grooves and a set of nuts and *** part of the performance evaluation,the device was first subjected to a simulated storage/shipping process,wherein the leak-proof and aseptic containment of the contents was ***,the setup was used for temporary storage/shipping of dishes having(a)L929 cell monolayers cultured on treated surfaces,(b)SIRC,HaCaT and A549 cell sheets cultured on thermo-responsive surfaces,(c)HOS-cell encapsulated agar gels and(d)HOS-cell seeded silk fibroin *** results showed that the health of cell monolayers/cell sheets/tissue constructs after the process was comparable to that before the *** device was scalable,simple to handle,can be made for a single or multi-use purpose,and can be resizable to load other culture *** design of the storage/shipping device described in this report thus offers versatile features and applications.

The rolling of metal sheet often leads to strong contamination of the resulting surface. The present work reports the effects of the surface contamination remaining after rolling of AZ31 Mg alloy on plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO) treatment of the resulting sheet material. Results indicate that most of the contaminants on the surface of as-rolled AZ31 Mg alloy are removed in the early stages of PEO process. The contaminations slightly influence the phase composition of PEO coating. Non-uniform distribution of contaminations results in aggregation of pores on the surface of PEO samples. On the bare substrate the contaminations are responsible for poor wear and corrosion resistance but final PEO coatings reveals similar performance on contaminated substrate compared to the abraded one. A self-cleaning property of the PEO and possibility of one step process,avoiding pre-cleaning stages, is suggested.

Influence of Inactivation Treatment of Ship′s Ballast Water on Corrosion Resistance of Ship Steel Plate

The effect of seawater after ultraviolet inactivation on corrosion of a shipbuilding steel plate was investiga- ted by means of natural corrosion potential experiments and immersion corrosion test. The effects of natural seawater and treated seawater after ultraviolet inactivation on corrosion of the selected steel plate samples were compared with each other. The results showed that there was no obvious change in the chemical composition of treated seawater compared with natural seawater. The corrosion potential slightly increased by 10 mV, whereas the corrosion rate rose significantly by 20~. The experiments verified the naturally formed biofilm in the natural seawater for the inhi- bition of corrosion on the shipbuilding steel plate. The possible influences of ballast water treatment on biofilm by ul- traviolet and electrolysis inactivation under the condition of practical usage were also investigated. And it was found that ballast water treatment methods with no continuous disinfection could protect original tank biofilm structure, reducing the intensity of tank corrosion.
