Health status and health systems financing in the MENA region:roadmap to universal health coverage

Background:Since the declaration of the Millennium Development Goals(MDGs)in 1990,many countries of the Middle East and North Africa(MENA)region made some improvements in maternal and child health and in tackling communicable *** transition to the global agenda of Sustainable Development Goals brings new opportunities for countries to move forward toward achieving progress for better health,well-being,and universal health *** study provides a profile of health status and health financing approaches in the MENA region and their implications on universal health ***:Time-series data on socioeconomics,health expenditures,and health outcomes were extracted from databases and reports of the World Health Organization,the World Bank and the United Nations Development Program and analyzed using Stata 12 statistical *** were grouped according to the World Bank income *** statistics,tables and charts were used to analyze temporal changes and compare the key variables with global ***:Non-communicable diseases(NCDs)and injuries account for more than three quarters of the disabilityadjusted life years in all but two lower middle-income countries(Sudan and Yemen).Prevalence of risk factors(raised blood glucose,raised blood pressure,obesity and smoking)is higher than global averages and counterparts by income *** health expenditure(THE)per capita in most of the countries falls short of global averages for countries under similar income ***,growth rate of THE per capita has not kept pace with the growth rate of GDP per ***-of-pocket spending(OOPS)in all but the high-income countries in the group exceeds the threshold for catastrophic spending implying that there is a high risk of households getting poorer as a result of paying for health ***:The alarmingly high prevalence of NCDs and injuries and associated risk factors,health spending falling short of the GDP a

Three-dimensional label-free morphology of CD8+T cells as a sepsis biomarker

Remote electrocardiograph monitoring using a novel adhesive strip sensor: A pilot study

The increase in health care costs is not sustainable and has heightened the need for innovative low cost effective strategies for delivering patient care. Remote monitoring holds great promise for preventing or shortening duration of hospitalization even while improving quality of care. We therefore conducted a proof of concept study to examine the quality of electrocardiograph (ECG) recordings obtained remotely and to test its potential utility in detecting harmful rhythms such as atrial fibrillation. We tested a novel adhesive strip ECG monitor and assessed the ECG quality in ambulatory individuals. 2630 ECG strips were analyzed and classified as: Sinus, atrial fibrillation (AF), indeterminate, or other. Four readers independently rated ECG quality: 0: Noise; 1: QRS complexes seen, but P-wave indeterminate; 2: QRS complexes seen, P-waves seen but poor quality; and 3: Clean QRS complexes and P-waves. The combined average rating was: Noise 12%; R-R, no P-wave 10%; R-R, no PR interval 18%; and R-R with PR interval 60% (if Sinus). If minimum diagnostic quality was a score of 1, 88% of strips were diagnostic. There was moderate to high agreement regarding quality (weighted Kappa statistic values; 0.58 to 0.76) and high level of agreement regarding ECG diagnosis (ICC = 0.93). A highly variable RR interval (HRV ≥ 7) predicted AF (AUC = 0.87). The monitor acquires and transmits diagnostic high quality ECG data and permits characterization of AF.

Application of Zero-Watermarking for Medical Image in Intelligent Sensor Network Security

The field of healthcare is considered to be the most promising application of intelligent sensor ***,the security and privacy protection ofmedical images collected by intelligent sensor networks is a hot problem that has attracted more and more ***,digital watermarking provides an effective method to solve this *** order to improve the robustness of the medical image watermarking scheme,in this paper,we propose a novel zero-watermarking algorithm with the integer wavelet transform(IWT),Schur decomposition and image block ***,we first use IWT to extract low-frequency information and divide them into non-overlapping blocks,then we decompose the sub-blocks by Schur *** that,the feature matrix is constructed according to the relationship between the image block energy and the whole image *** the same time,we encrypt watermarking with the logistic chaotic position ***,the zero-watermarking is obtained by XOR operation with the encrypted *** indexes of peak signal-to-noise ratio,normalization coefficient(NC)and the bit error rate(BER)are used to evaluate the robustness of the *** to the experimental results,most of the NC values are around 0.9 under various attacks,while the BER values are very close to *** experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is more robust than the existing zero-watermarking methods,which indicates it is more suitable for medical image privacy and security protection.

Implications of future climate change on crop and irrigation water requirements in a semi-arid river basin using CMIP6 GCMs

Agriculture faces risks due to increasing stress from climate change,particularly in semi-arid *** of understanding of crop water requirement(CWR)and irrigation water requirement(IWR)in a changing climate may result in crop failure and socioeconomic problems that can become detrimental to agriculture-based economies in emerging nations *** research in CWR and IWR has largely focused on large river basins and scenarios from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 3(CMIP3)and Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5(CMIP5)to account for the impacts of climate change on *** basins,however,are more susceptible to regional climate change,with more significant impacts on *** study estimates CWRs and IWRs for five crops(sugarcane,wheat,cotton,sorghum,and soybean)in the Pravara River Basin(area of 6537 km^(2))of India using outputs from the most recent Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6(CMIP6)General Circulation Models(GCMs)under Shared Socio-economic Pathway(SSP)245 and SSP585 *** increase in mean annual rainfall is projected under both scenarios in the 2050s and 2080s using ten selected CMIP6 *** for all crops may decline in almost all of the CMIP6 GCMs in the 2050s and 2080s(with the exceptions of ACCESS-CM-2 and ACCESS-ESM-1.5)under SSP245 and SSP585 *** availability of increasing soil moisture in the root zone due to increasing rainfall and a decrease in the projected maximum temperature may be responsible for this decline in ***,except for soybean and cotton,the projected IWRs for all other three crops under SSP245 and SSP585 scenarios show a decrease or a small increase in the 2050s and 2080s in most CMIP6 *** findings are important for agricultural researchers and water resource managers to implement long-term crop planning techniques and to reduce the negative impacts of climate change and associated rainfall variability to avert crop failure and agricultural

Atomic layers are sought after for molecular sensing due to their available high surface interaction area,and different types of monolayers are attempted for sensing in the recent ***,their chemical stability towards these molecules is questioned in recent times and alternate methods need to be developed to circumvent such issues,while maintaining high ***,the van der Waals(vdWs)stacks of molybdenum disulfide(MoS_(2))and graphene are shown for their stable electrochemical sensing towards ascorbic acid(AA)and dopamine(DA)-two important *** is known to chemically react with MoS_(2) leading to unstable sensing platform,while here the graphene coverage is shown to protect the MoS_(2) even from low-energy plasma exposure while keeping the same high *** proving the graphene-based protection of the sensor,such a sensing platform is shown for its applicability in DA sensing,where it is found to give a linear response in a wide range of concentrations(2.5 to 600μmol·L^(−1))and even selective sensing in the presence of *** a stack is found to be not merely giving protection to the beneath MoS_(2) layer but also the inter-layer charge transfer due to work function differences being beneficial in bringing fast and high sensitivity to the next-generation sensors and point-of-care devices.
