BACKGROUND Immune checkpoint inhibitor-mediated colitis(IMC)is a common adverse event following immune checkpoint inhibitor(ICI)therapy for *** has been associated with improved overall survival(OS)and progression-free survival(PFS),but data are limited to a single site and predominantly for melanoma *** To determine the association of IMC with OS and PFS and identify clinical predictors of *** We performed a retrospective case-control study including 64 ICI users who developed IMC matched according to age,sex,ICI class,and malignancy to a cohort of ICI users without IMC,from May 2011 to May *** univariate and multivariate logistic regression,we determined association of presence of IMC on OS,PFS,and clinical predictors of ***-Meier curves were gen-erated to compare OS and PFS between ICI users with and without *** IMC was significantly associated with a higher OS(mean 24.3 mo vs 17.7 mo,P=0.05)but not PFS(mean 13.7 mo vs 11.9 mo,P=0.524).IMC was significantly associated with OS greater than 12 mo[Odds ratio(OR)2.81,95%confidence interval(CI)1.17-6.77].Vitamin D supplementation was significantly associated with increased risk of IMC(OR 2.48,95%CI 1.01-6.07).CONCLUSION IMC was significantly associated with OS greater than 12 *** contrast to prior work,we found that vitamin D use may be a risk factor for IMC.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is the most prevalent cause of chronic liver disease *** most individuals with NAFLD,liver histology is typically characterized by nonalcoholic fatty liver(NAFL),while up to 20%are noted to have nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)with or without *** stage of NAFLD-related hepatic fibrosis and not the presence of NASH is associated with the risk of all-cause and cause-specific mortality(1,2).During the recent decade,NAFLD-associated advanced fibrosis increased in prevalence in the United States(US)from 3%among individuals with NAFLD in 2005-2008 to 6%in 2013-2016,estimated to be four million US adults(3).Notably,mortality for NAFLD-associated cirrhosis increased significantly between 2007 and 2016,with an annual increase of 15.4%(4).Although earlier studies showed that NAFLD was associated with higher mortality than the general population of the same age and sex(5),it is not clear whether more severe NAFLD is associated with the underlying metabolic complications responsible for the increased risk of all-cause and cause-specific mortalities.A US population-based study with 15 years of follow-up reported that NAFLD by itself did not increase the risk of mortality,whereas NAFLD with advanced fibrosis was associated with an increase in all-cause and cardiovascular mortality(2).After adjustment for multiple clinical and metabolic confounders beyond age and sex,NAFLD was no longer predictive of all-cause mortalities(2).A recent meta-analysis validated that the risk of all-cause and liver-related mortality increases with an increase in fibrosis stage in individuals with NAFLD(1).

BACKGROUND Gastric antral vascular ectasia(GAVE)has diverse associations and presumed causes,which include liver cirrhosis,chronic kidney disease,and autoimmune *** heterogeneity of underlying disorders suggests that the pathogenesis of GAVE may be *** To compare the clinical features and long-term outcomes of GAVE according to endoscopic patterns and *** The medical records and endoscopic images of 23 consecutive patients diagnosed with GAVE by endoscopy at Yeungnam University Hospital from January 2006 to December 2020 were retrospectively *** were allocated to cirrhosis(16 patients)and non-cirrhosis groups(7 patients).GAVE subtypes,as determined by endoscopy,were categorized as punctate(a diffuse,honeycomb-like appearance,17 patients)or striped(a linear,watermelon-like appearance,6 patients).RESULTS All GAVE patients with cirrhosis(16/16,100%)had a punctate pattern by endoscopy,whereas the majority of patients(6/7,85.7%)without cirrhosis had a striped pattern(P<0.001).Overt GAVE bleeding(10/23,43%)was significantly more common in the non-cirrhosis group than in the cirrhosis group(6/7,85.7%vs 4/16,25.0%;P=0.019),and more common in the striped group than in the punctate group(5/6,83.3%vs 5/17,29.4%;P=0.052).However,mean numbers of admissions due to GAVE bleeding and argon plasma coagulation(APC)sessions to address overt bleeding were similar in the cirrhosis and non-cirrhosis groups and in the punctate and striped *** patients with GAVE bleeding were successfully treated by APC,and no patient died from GAVE-related blood loss during a median follow-up of 24 *** Punctate-type GAVE is strongly associated with liver cirrhosis,and GAVE patients without cirrhosis tend to be more prone to overt ***,the presence of cirrhosis and endoscopic patterns did not influence long-term clinical courses or outcomes in cases of overt bleeding.

Dubin Johnson syndrome usually appears in the second dec-ade of life, making differentiation from biliary atresia (BA) relatively easy. However, there are rare cases of neonatal Dubin Johnson syndrome (nDJS) causing cholestasis in neo-nates that can be easily mistaken for other conditions, in-cluding BA. It is important to make a distinction between the two in neonates because nDJS is typically a benign condition and BA, if left untreated, has a high mortality rate.
