A remarkable painting of *** of Assisi is on display in the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields,USA,painted by the Italian master Pietro da Rimini around 1330(Figure 1)(1).The painting is entitled‘Saint Francis receives the stigmata’,and depicts the saint experiencing a vision as he *** sees Christ,bearing the wounds from his crucifixion,flying with an angel-like creature called a *** wounds of Christ represent the four places where nails were driven through his hands and feet during his crucifixion,each denoting a stigma.A fifth stigma appears as a wound on the right side of his chest,where he was stabbed with a lance between the ribs by the Roman soldier who wanted to ascertain his death.

Myopia is the leading cause of visual impairments worldwide. Some studies revealed that visual experience in early life affected the final myopia, indicating that environmental factors play an impellent role in the development of myopia. However, risk factors of myopia are still not identified among adolescents in China. A total of 4104 cases of myopia symptom and 3306 emmetropia controls were selected from students in primary and middle schools in Wuhan in 2008. We identified the risk factors associated with myopia symptom by multivariate logistic regression in this cross-sectional study and constructed a risk score system for myopia symptom. The value of the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was 0.735. Furthermore, we followed up 93 students aged 7-9 years for one year and calculated the total points using the score system. We found no significant difference between the final myopia symptom and the results predicted by the total points by pair chi-square test (P>0.05). The score system had a modest ability to estimate the risk factors of myopia symptom. Using this score system, we could identify the students who are at risk of myopia symptom in the future according to their behaviors and environmental factors, and take measures to slow the progress of myopia symptom.

AIM： To study effects of orthokeratology（Ortho-k） on accommodation function in myopic children. METHODS： A prospective, non-randomized, case-control study was performed from September to October 2016. Eighty-three children with myopia were divided into two groups. One group was treated with the rigid contact lens for overnight Ortho-k, and the other was treated with single-vision spectacle lens（SVL）. Accommodation function were assessed by accommodative amplitude（AA）, accommodative sensitivity（AS）, accommodative lag（Lag）, negative relative accommodation（NRA）, and positive relative accommodation（PRA） before and 1, 3, 6 and 12 mo after treated. RESULTS： Totally 72 myopic children were finished the follow-up： 37 in Ortho-k group and 35 in SVL group. Wearing time had a significant effect on AA, AS, Lag, and NRA of myopic children in two groups（all P〈0.05）. Meanwhile, there was an interaction effect between wearing time and wearing types（FAA=5.3, FAS=45.5, FLag=7.0, FNRA=3.7, all P〈0.05）. However, the between-group difference of AA（F=0.1）, AS（F=3.2）, Lag（F=1.1）, NRA（F=0.3）, and PRA（F=0.1） showed no significance. AA, AS, NRA, Lag and PRA were improved significantly in Ortho-k group within 1 to 6 mo after wearing. CONCLUSION： Wearing Ortho-k can improve the accommodation function of myopic children, which might be one of the mechanisms for myopia control.

Genomic analysis has emphasized the enormous genetic contribution to autism spectrum disorders, with over 80% of patients having changes demonstrable by high resolution chromosome (microarray) analysis or whole exome sequencing. An overview of these genetic changes demonstrates the expected role of synaptic transmission in autism and, together with clinical observations, emphasizes the importance of visual input on developing sensory systems and social responses. Neonatal recognition of autism predisposition through genetic analysis could allow sensory stimulation therapies during periods of neuroplasticity, an approach analogous to strabismus correction before the cortical dissociation of the deviant eye.

Relationship between Nutritional Support and Tuberculosis Treatment Outcomes in West Bengal, India

＜正＞The spatial properties of the classical receptive field surround （CRF surround） of neurons responding to a stimulus restricted to it and its interaction with the classical receptive field center （CRF center） in visual information processing were investigated in 65 relay cells in the dorsal lateral geniculate nucleus （LGNd） of anesthetized cats. The results demonstrate that the CRF surround of most relay cells in the LGNd responded preferentially to a grating stimulus of low spatial frequency. These cells showed a significant orientation bias, which was relatively smaller than that of the CRF center. The preferred orientations of the CRF surround were not correlated with those of the CRF center in many relay cells. The orientation biased CRF surrounds and CRF centers interacted with each other in a non-linear way, resulting in a great diversity of response properties. The CRF surround mostly showed a modulatory role mainly in suppressing and/or partially facilitating the neural response to stimulation in the CRF center although in some cases, the CRF surround did determine a cell’s responsiveness and

Introduction: Poverty and poor nutrition are associated with the risk of developing tuberculosis (TB). Socioeconomic factors may interfere with anti-tuberculosis treatment compliance and its outcome. We examined whether providing nutritional support (monthly supply of rice and lentil beans) to TB patients who live below the poverty line was associated with TB treatment outcome. Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of sputum smear-positive pulmonary TB patients living below the poverty line (income of <$1.25 per day) registered for anti-tuberculosis treatment in two rural districts of West Bengal, India during 2012 to 2013. We compared treatment outcomes among patients who received nutritional support with those who did not. A log-binomial regression model was used to assess the relation between nutritional support and unsuccessful treatment outcome (loss-to-follow-up, treatment failure and death). Results: Of 173 TB patients provided nutritional support, 15 (9%) had unsuccessful treatment outcomes, while 84 (21%) of the 400 not provided nutrition support had unsuccessful treatment outcomes (p < 0.001). After adjusting for age, sex and previous treatment, those who received nutritional support had a 50% reduced risk of unsuccessful treatment outcome than those who did not receive nutritional support (Relative Risk: 0.51;95% Confidence Intervals: 0.30 - 0.86). Conclusion: Under programmatic conditions, monthly rations of rice and lentils were associated with lower risk of unsuccessful treatment outcome among impoverished TB patients. Given the relatively small financial commitment needed per patient ($10 per patient per month), the national TB programme should consider scaling up nutritional support among TB patients living below the poverty line.

Context:Prevalence of nutritional anemia among Saudi female and children is evident and has been reflected in different studies,most of researchers conclude that there is a gap in dietary coun-seling in addition to the poor awareness of community about appropriate dietary habits;this study is trying to assess counseling behavior and training competency of family physician at primary health centers with respect to nutritional ***:Study objective is to assess general beliefs,practice,and level of training in coun-seling by family ***:This is a cross-sectional study design;data collected using self-administered questionnaire provided to the doctor at clinic ***:The most commonly learned counseling technique in order as follows motivational interviewing(68%),cognitive behavioral therapy(58%),and 15-Minute Hour approach(53%).Conclusion:This study confirms the presence of positive counseling beliefs and practices by family physicians;however,the result is also reflects the current reluctant state of family physicians in devoting ample time for nutritional anemia counseling.

Real-Time Range of Motion Measurement of Physical Therapeutic Exercises

Physical therapeutic exercise (PTE) is the planned process of performing bodily movements, postures, or physical activities to provide a patient with the ability to remediate or prevent impairments at a minimum. The efficacy of the PTE involves measuring accurately the range of motion (ROM) of joint functions and parameters that indicate the onset of fatigue, jerky motion, and muscle/joint resistance to the PTE. A physical therapist (PT) typically determines the efficacy of a PTE by measuring joint angles in clinical diagnosis to assess the ROM using the simple device Goniometer since motion capture systems are generally expensive, difficult to use, and currently not suited for real-time operations. The joint angle measurement using Goniometer suffers from low accuracy, low reliability and subjective. Furthermore, a patient when performing PTE by themselves at remote locations like their home or community centers cannot use a Goniometer to determine the efficacy. In this study, we present the approach of using an inexpensive, simple human motion capture system (HMCS) consisting of a single camera and a graphical processing unit (GPU) to perform the efficacy of the PTE in real-time. The approach involves the use of general purpose graphic processing unit (GPGPU) computer vision technique to track and record human motion and relate the tracked human motion to the prescribed physical therapy regimen in real-time. We have developed a tracking algorithm derived from the Klein’s algorithm known as the Modified Klein’s algorithm (MKA) capable of tracking human body parts while the original Klein’s algorithm was only capable of tracking objects with sharp edges. The MKA algorithm is further modified for parallel execution on a GPU to operate in real-time. Using the GPU, we are able to track multiple markers in a high definition (HD) frame of the HD video in 1.77 msecs achieving near real-time capability of ROM measurements.
