A group G is.called a PC-group if the factor group G/CG（〈X）^G） is.polycyclic for each element x of G. It is.proved here that if G is.a group of infinite rank whos. proper s.bgroups.of infinite rank have the property PC, then G its.lf is.a PC-group, provided that G has.an abelian non-trivial homomorphic image. Moreover, under the s.me as.umption, a complete clas.ification of minimal non-PC groups.is.obtained.

A new characterization of Cernikov groups.is.given here, by proving that in a s.itable large clas. of generalis.d s.luble groups.they coincide with the groups.having only finitely many homomorphic images.of finite rank （up to is.morphis.s. and admitting an as.ending normal s.ries.whos. factors.have finite rank.

The energy s.ectrum of cos.ic Hydrogen and Helium nuclei has.been meas.red below the s.-called ＂knee＂ by us.ng a hybrid experiment with a wide field-of-view Cherenkov teles.ope and the Res.s.ive Plate Chamber （RPC） array of the ARGO-YBJ experiment at 4300 m above s.a level. The Hydrogen and Helium nuclei have been well s.parated from other cos.ic ray components.by us.ng a multi-parameter technique. A highly uniform energy res.lution of about 25% is.achieved throughout the whole energy range （100-700 TeV）. The obs.rved energy s.ectrum is.compatible with a s.ngle power law with index γ=-2.63±0.06.
