In astrophysics, the boundary conditions for plasma phenomena are provided by nature and the astronomer faces the problem of understanding them from a variety of observations [Hester J J et al 1996 Astrophys. J. 456 225], on the other hand, in laboratory plasma experiments the electromagnetic boundary conditions become a major problem in the set-up of the machine that produces the plasma, an issue that has to be investigated step by step and to be modified and adapted with great patience, in particular in the case of an innovative plasma confinement experiment. The PROTO-SPHeRA machine [Alladio F et al 2006 Nucl. Fusion 46 S613] is a magnetic confinement experiment, that emulates in the laboratory the jet + torus plasma configurations often observed in astrophysics: an inner magnetized jet of plasma centered on the(approximate) axis of symmetry and surrounded by a magnetized plasma torus orthogonal to this jet. The PROTO-SPHeRA plasma is simply connected, i.e., no metal current conducting rod is linked to the plasma torus, while instead it is the inner magnetized plasma jet(in the following always called the plasma centerpost) that is linked to the torus. It is mandatory that no spurious plasma current path modifies the optimal shape of the plasma centerpost. Moreover, as the plasma torus is produced and sustained, in absence of any applied inductive electric field, by the inner plasma centerpost through magnetic reconnections [Taylor J B and Turner M F 1989 *** 29 219], it is required as well that spurious current paths do not surround the torus on its outboard, in order not to lower the efficiency of the magnetic reconnections that maintain the plasma torus at the expense of the plasma centerpost. Boundary conditions have been corrected,up to the point that the first sustainment in steady state has been achieved for the combined plasma.

A New Independent GPS-Free System for Geo-Referencing from Space

A new system’s geo-referencing from space is entirely free from any GNSS (GPS or equivalent) systems. The system addresses to various strategic and economic applications such as in remote clock synchronism, aircraft and balloon navigation, missile and smart bombs tracking, satellite orbital determination and remote target geo-positioning. The new geometry concept corresponds to an “inverted GPS” configuration, utilizing four ground-based reference stations, synchronized in time, installed at well known geodesic coordinates and a repeater in space, carried by an aircraft, balloon, satellite, etc. Signal transmitted by one of the reference bases is retransmitted by the transponder, received back by the four bases, producing four ranging measurements which are corrected for the time delays undergone in every retransmission. A minimization function was derived to compare the repeater’s positions referred to at least two groups of three reference bases, to correct for the signal transit time at the repeater and propagation delays, and consequently to provide the accurate repeater position for each time interaction. Once the repeater’s coordinates are known, the other determinations and applications become straightforward. The system solving algorithm and process performance has been demonstrated by simulations adopting a practical example with the transponder carried by an aircraft moving over bases and a target on the ground. effects produced by reference clock synchronism uncertainties at the four bases on the measurements are reviewed.

Probe lifetime around natural satellites with obliquity

The dynamics of a probe orbiting a moon can be significantly influenced by the non-coincidence between the moon's equatorial and orbital ***,we performed a general analysis about the effects of the angle(obliquity)between the above-mentioned planes and of the angle(nodal phasing)between the nodal lines of the mother planet's apparent orbit and the probe orbit on the lifetime of the *** lifetime,strictly correlated to the variations in eccentricity of the probe orbit,was evaluated starting from low values of the semi-major axis,moderate eccentricity,and high inclination to offer high ground spatial resolution and extend latitudinal coverage of the natural *** investigation,carried out through numerical simulations,may be useful for identifying the optimal initial conditions of the probe's orbit elements,leading to an important increase in the probe lifetime in missions devoted to the exploration of natural satellites.

Dating long thrust systems on Mercury:New clues on the thermal evolution of the planet

The global tectonics of Mercury is dominated by contractional features mainly represented by lobate scarps,high relief ridges,and wrinkle *** structures are the expression of thrust faults and are linear or arcuate features widely distributed on ***,these structures are arranged in long systems characterized by a preferential orientation and non-random spatial *** this work we identified five thrust systems,generally longer than 1000 *** were named after the main structure or crater encompassed by the system as:Thakur,Victoria,Villa Lobos,Al-Hamadhani,and *** order to gain clues about their formation,we dated them using the buffered crater counting technique,which can be applied to derive the ages of linear landforms such as faults,ridges and *** estimate the absolute age for the end of the thrust system's activity,we applied both Le Feuvre and Wieczorek Production Function and Neukum Production ***,to further confirm the results obtained with the buffered crater counting method,the classic stratigraphic approach has been adopted,in which a faulted and an unfaulted craters were dated for each *** results gave consistent ages and suggested that the most movements along major structures all over Mercury most likely ended at about 3.6-3.8 *** gives new clues to better understand the tectonics of the planet and,therefore,its thermal ***,the early occurrence of tectonic activity in the planet's history,well before than predicted by the thermophysical models,coupled with the orientation and spatial distribution of the thrust systems,suggests that other processes beside global contraction,like mantle downwelling or tidal despinning,could have contributed to the first stage of the planet's history.

Yellow fever is an acute viral disease endemic to tropical countries, like Brazil, where, since the 1940 s, has no significant documented outbreaks similar to that observed between 2016/2018(2 045 confirmed cases and 677 deaths; caused by the sylvatic form).The principal manipulating factors inciting this change were absence of appropriate vaccination campaigns and increased urbanization & population growth in forest areas, with prevalence of the virus in the species inhabiting of these *** 2016/2018 outbreaks exhibited incidence in areas with historically low or no yellow fever virus activity, triggering a surge in recorded deaths-mainly in the Southeastern states of *** Brazilian government aggressively responded, reforming the countries' prophylactic measures, including vaccine implementation-as of March, 2018, switching from the former double dose regimen of the vaccine, to a single dose protocol, deemed as ***, some states appropriated the fractionated dosage(1/5 of the standard dose), in foresight of potential vaccine *** prevent the uprising of new sylvatic yellow fever cases in Brazil, it's obligatory the development of effective combative plans, including adaptation of prophylactic measures individually(use of repellents, protective clothing etc.), applicable vaccination campaigns in every endemic region, to raise awareness to locals and visitors *** these preventative strategies, the persistence of cases and the recent outbreaks in Brazil, highlight the possible ineffectiveness of combative *** on these considerations, the objective of this review was to raise more awareness of the epidemiological impact of the disease in Brazil.

Infectious diseases continue to impose unpredictable burdens on global health and economies, a subject that requires constant research and updates. In this sense, the objective of the present article was to review studies on the role of wild animals as reservoirs and/or dispersers of etiological agents of human infectious diseases in order to compile data on the main wild animals and etiological agents involved in zoonotic outbreaks. A systematic review was carried out using PRISMA guidelines, using the PubMed, Scopus and ScieLO platforms as data banks. The descriptors used were "zoonosis", "human infectious diseases" and "wild animals". The results show that wild animals(mainly bats, birds and primates) play an important role in the dissemination of etiological agents(mainly viruses, as a new coronavirus called 2019 Novel Coronavirus) in extensive geographic regions. Moreover, these wild animal organisms can act as the site for essential biotic synergy among several pathogenic microorganisms, promoting a higher rate of adaptation, mutation and even genetic recombination, with consequent stimulation of new strains and subtypes, inducing new infectious agents with unknown virulent potential. In conclusion, the monitoring of these diseases and adequate preparation for possible epidemics and pandemics are fundamental conditions for the mitigation of their future impact. The zoonotic threat of these etiological agents and the impact on public health can be enormous as shown by the ongoing epidemic of 2019 novel coronavirus(2019-nCoV) infections.

Different leaf(evergreen *** habit)and xylem(***-porous wood)traits represent contrasting strategies to face seasonal changes in water availability and ***,how contrasting leaf and xylem habits of coexisting tree species affect stem wood formation and tree-ring development remains poorly ***,we investigated the spatio-temporal patterns of wood formation in two deciduous oaks(Quercus faginea and Quercus petraea)and two evergreen oaks(Quercus ilex and Quercus suber)coexisting in seasonally dry Mediterranean forests along an aridity gradient in *** hypothesized that growth responses to drought and intra-and inter-annual growth patterns would differ between functional *** simulated intra-and interannual growth using a modified version of the Vaganov-Shashkin(VS)process-based,growth *** VS model simulations were used to estimate growth changes under a high emission scenario(RCP 8.5)for the current distribution of the study oak species and to forecast their future performance under warm(4.8℃)conditions in the Iberian *** simulations indicate that climate warming would induce a shortening of the ringgrowth season and a reduction of radial growth in evergreen and deciduous Mediterranean oaks,particularly in dry sites from southern and eastern Iberia currently occupied by *** and *** oaks may better recover after dry periods than deciduous oaks by resuming growth after the summer *** soil water availability in spring would be more detrimental to growth of deciduous ***-based growth models should be refined and validated to better forecast changes in tree growth as a function of climate.

We present an analysis of the Imaging X-ray Polarimetry explorer observation from a newly discovered transient source:Swift *** obtained polarization degree(PD)and angle are 0.3%±0.3% and -24°±26°respectively in 2-8 keV within 68%confidence level errors,and polarization results are below MDP99in all energy bins,with the upper limit on PD of 0.8% in the 2-8 keV energy *** quasi-periodic oscillations(QPOs)are detected in this *** polarization and QPO analyses support the hypothesis that the source was in the high soft state,and the results are consistent with predictions for a thin accretion disk model.

Meningococcal disease is the acute infection caused by Neisseria meningitidis, which has humans as the only natural host. The disease is widespread around the globe and is known for its epidemical potential and high rates of lethality and morbidity. The highest number of cases of the disease is registered in the semi-arid regions of sub-Saharan Africa. In Brazil, it is endemic with occasional outbreaks, epidemics and sporadic cases occurring throughout the year, especially in the winter. The major epidemics of the disease occurred in Brazil in the 70's caused by serogroups A and C. Serogroups B, C and Y represent the majority of cases in europe, the Americas and Australia. However, there has been a growing increase in serogroup W in some areas. The pathogen transmission happens for respiratory route(droplets) and clinically can lead to meningitis and sepsis(meningococcemia). The treatment is made with antimicrobial and supportive care. For successful prevention, we have some measures like vaccination, chemoprophylaxis and droplets' precautions. In this review, we have described and clarify clinical features of the disease caused by N. meningitidis regarding its relevance for healthcare professionals.
