Non-invasive prediction of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis in Japanese patients with morbid obesity by artificial intelligence using rule extraction technology

AIM To construct a non-invasive prediction algorithm for predicting non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH), we investigated Japanese morbidly obese patients using artificial intelligence with rule extraction *** Consecutive patients who required bariatric surgery underwent a liver biopsy during the operation. Standard clinical, anthropometric, biochemical measurements were used as parameters to predict NASH and were analyzed using rule extraction technology. One hundred and two patients, including 79 NASH and 23 non-NASH patients were analyzed in order to create the predictionmodel, another cohort with 77 patients including 65 NASH and 12 non-NASH patients were analyzed to validate the *** Alanine aminotransferase, C-reactive protein, homeostasis model assessment insulin resistance, albumin were extracted as predictors of NASH using a recursive-rule extraction algorithm. When we adopted the extracted rules for the validation cohort using a highly accurate rule extraction algorithm, the predictive accuracy was 79.2%. The positive predictive value, negative predictive value,sensitivity and specificity were 88.9%, 35.7%, 86.2% and 41.7%, *** We successfully generated a useful model for predicting NASH in Japanese morbidly obese patients based on their biochemical profile using a rule extraction algorithm.

Electronic transport properties of Co cluster-decorated graphene

Interactions of magnetic elements with graphene may lead to various electronic states that have potential *** report an in-situ experiment in which the quantum transport properties of graphene are measured with increasing cobalt coverage in continuous ultra-high vacuum environment. The results show that e-beam deposited cobalt forms clusters on the surface of graphene, even at low sample temperatures. Scattering of charge carriers by the absorbed cobalt clusters results in the disappearance of the Shubnikov–de Haas（Sd H） oscillations and the appearance of negative magnetoresistance（MR）which shows no sign of saturation up to an applied magnetic field of 9 T. We propose that these observations could originate from quantum interference driven by cobalt disorder and can be explained by the weak localization theory.

Cerebral processing of emotions in phantom eye pain patients:An event related potential study

Purpose Phantom eye pain(PEP)is a major clinical problem after eye removal with no standard treatment protocol to *** pain is a multidimensional experience associated with emotional and cognitive components,this study aimed to explore the possible neuropsychological mechanisms of PEP in a perspective of emotional cognition,in order to provide a basis for clinical *** Visual oddball event-related potentials(ERPs)under different external emotional stimuli(Disgust,Fear,Sadness,Happiness,Erotica and Neutral)were tested in 12 patients and 12 healthy ***'affective states were measured with the Mood disorder Questionnaire(MDQ),the Hypomania Checklist-32(HCL-32),and the Plutchik–van Praag Depression Inventory(PVP).The amplitudes and latencies of N1,P2,N2 and P3 components were analyzed by three-way ANOVA,i.e.,group(2)×emotion(6)×electrode(3).Multiple comparisons were performed using Bonferroni's *** Longer N1 latencies,increased N1 amplitudes;shorter P2 latencies under Disgust and Happiness,decreased P2 amplitudes;shorter N2 latencies under Erotica,increased N2 amplitudes were found in patients compared with *** was no main effect of group or interaction effect on P3 latencies and P3 *** MDQ and HCL-32 scores were lower,and the N1 latencies under Sadness were negatively correlated with PVP scores in *** PEP patients showed reversed patterns in exogenous attention allocation and enhanced involuntary attention to emotional stimuli compared with *** study demonstrated cortical processing of emotions in PEP patients and could provide a basis for developing emotional intervention therapy.
