Surface flow constructed wetland with composite plant bed for pretreatment of micro-polluted Yellow River raw water in China

In order to investigate the feasibility of pretreating the micro-polluted Yellow River raw water by constructed wetland, an experiment was conducted using a surface flow constructed wetland with composite plant bed. The contamination removal efficiency and their trends in the wetland treatment system were studied under different hydraulic loading rates(HLR). The contamination removal efficiencies were compared according to the seasonal change under optimum HLR. The result shows that in the same season, under different hydraulic loadings ranging from 2 to 6 m3/(m2·d) at the same period, the best HLR is 4 m3/(m2·d) in the experimental system. The average removal rates of COD, TN, ammoniacal nitrogen(NH4+-N), and TP in the constructed wetland are 38.37%, 45.97%, 39.86% and 41.69%, respectively. According to China Standard for Surface Water Resources (GB3838-2002), mean effluent of COD, TN, NH4+-N and TP can nearly reach Grade Ⅲ, GradeⅤ, GradeⅠand GradeⅠ, respectively. Furthermore, treatment efficiency of the system in summer is obvious higher than that in other seasons. The expenditure of constructing the constructed wetland with the average treating capacity of 176 m3/d and lifetime of 20 years is 17075.00 RMB. The average disposal cost is summed up to 0.17 RMB/m3, which shows that the pretreatment of the micro-polluted Yellow River raw water by constructed wetland is feasible.

Kaolinite from a lead-zinc mining district,which was spiked with cadmium,has been treated by electrokinetics to investigate effects of treatment time and applied voltage *** results showed that the increased test duration had induced a higher removal rate of *** treated for 7 days,cadmium was removed from kaolinite *** was also found that higher removal rate happened when a higher voltage gradient was applied and cadmium accumulated near the cathode because pH *** of pH near the cathode caused accumulation of ***,it was observed that cation exchange membrane which was placed between kaolinite and cathode could make pH lower than the initial value and avoid the higher pH near the *** a result,the high concentration accumulation of cadmium near the cathode was avoided.

The objective of this work is to verify a hypothesis that nitrite accumulation comes from the metabolites of denitrification phosphate accumulating organisms (DPAOs),not denitrifying *** the precondition of the restriction of denitrifying bacteria in anoxic phase,static experimental test was designed using NO3-as electron acceptor,effluent was removed after sedimentation in anaerobic phase,and the same concentration solution of PO43--P was returned,so that TOC was excluded and denitrification was inhibited in the next phases.A parallel experiment was carried out simultaneously with the normal anaerobic-anoxic *** results showed that,in static test,by keeping the normal growth of DPAO and inhibiting denitrification of denitrifying bacteria,P-release in anaerobic and P-uptake in anoxic phase proceeded *** had obvious effect on P-removal and the P-removal efficiency was 69%.The effluent concentration of NO3--N and NO2--N was 7.62 mg/L and 6.05 mg/L respectively,compared with parallel experiments,and nitrogen removal rate was *** nitrite residue was found in parallel ***,it can confirm the hypothesis that the metabolites of DPAO are both nitrogen and nitrite when nitrate is taken as electron acceptor,and nitrite is subsequently converted to nitrogen by denitrifying bacteria.

The disinfection effect of chlorine dioxide, chlorine and their mixture on heterotrophic bacteria, iron bacteria and sulfate-reducing bacteria in circulating cooling water was studied. The results of the test indicated that high purity chlorine dioxide was the most effective biocide in the 3 disinfectants, and with a dosage of 0.5 mg/L, chlorine dioxide could obtain perfect effect. High purity chloride dioxide could have the excellent effect with the pH value of 6 to 10, and could keep it within 72 h. Chlorine and their mixture couldn’t reach the effect of chlorine dioxide.

The great amount of NH3-N produced in biological hydrolysis process of high concentration urea can inhibit the growth of microorganisms. In allusion to this problem,the Fenton reagent was used to treat high concentration urea wastewater. And the optimum conditions of this experiment were employed as follows: Fe(Ⅱ)-H2O2mole ratio was 1/3.53,H2O2 was 4 mL (corresponding to 35.30 mmol),pH was 3.0-3.5. Then the experiment shows that the urea concentration decreases from 500 mg/L to less than 2 mg/L,or is even not detected; under the same dose of H2O2,repetitious addition does better than one-off addition; the reaction time within one minute or to be prolonged has little influence on removal effect. The results verify feasibility of this method.

The objective of this paper was to investigate the practicability of coagulation-immersed membrane process during low-temperature period through the study of steady operation,chemical cleaning methods,water quality and agent *** results showed that:membrane performance decreases with the reduction of temperature,but low temperature has little effect on stable operation of immersed membrane when coagulation as *** with 1200 mg/L sodium hypochlorite after every 48 filtration cycles was made for reducing membrane fouling efficiently,and the method,with 1.5% sodium hydroxide and 3500 mg/L sodium hypochlorite for 10 h and then 2% hydrochloric acid for 4 h,is an appropriate cleaning method under low *** with convention treatment process,immersed membrane process not only has same agent consumption,but also permeated water quality is more superior such as fine removal effect on turbidity with average 0.10 ***,coagulation-immersed membrane process is more appropriate for increasing water quality demand and the treatment of low turbidity and low temperature water.

Wastewater reclamation in the petroleum industries in Northern China is important because of the shortage of water resource. Conventional treatment technology used：in treating petroleum-based wastewater, namely the 3-phase biological process, typically removes COD, BODI grease, volatile hydrobenzenes, cyanides, sulfides and suspended solids. However, the process is often ineffective in ammonia-nitrogen removal, and thus the treated effluent quantity can＇ t meet the required standards for reuse. This paper investigated a novel ozone immobilized biological activated carbon（O3-IBAC） process for ammonia nitrogen removal from petroleum-based wastewater. Operated at a HRT （ Hydraulic Retention Time） of 15 minutes in IBACI and 27 minutes in IBAC2, the O3-IBAC process achieved ammonia nitrogen removal efficiency of 91%. In addition, the removal efficiencies 6f COD, volatile hydrobenzenes, suspended solids, turbidity and petroleum-based micropollutants were all above 90%. Competition between the autotrophs and heterotrophs was observed, which was indicated by an increase of ammonia nitrogen removal with a decrease of COD removal, and vise versa. Nitrite accumulation in IBACI followed by erobic shortcut denitrification in IBAC2 led to 28% of the Total Nitrogen removal efficiency. Pollutant reduction in＇ the IBAC process was achieved by a rapid physical adsorption and biodegradation on the activated carbon, which effectively retained the pollutants in the system despite the short hydraulic retention time.

To confirm the rheological characteristic of sewage in the research and application of urban sewage source heat pump system, the viscosity of sewage was investigated. The tube-type rheometer was used in this experimental study, and the sewage was treated as homogeneous non-Newtonian fluid. In addition, the relational expression between viscosity parameters was developed, and the function of apparent viscosity was obtained. It is concluded that the viscosity characteristic of sewage is influenced largely by complex mixture in sewage, and the sewage has the characteristic of sheared densification fluid.

An anaerobic expanding-bed reactor was adopted to investigate the feasibility of an innovative integrated process of simultaneous desulfurization and denitrification （SDD） for high strength wastewater. In the reactor, heterotrophic bacteria （including sulfate reducing bacterium and denitrifying bacteria） and autotrophic bacteria （ including Thiobacillus denitrificans） cooperated together by incubating and enriching functional bac- teria on different carriers in the anaerobic activated sludge. Synthetic wastewater with high concentrations of sulfate and nitrate was employed. The experimental resuhs showed that the removal efficiency of sulfate and nitrate was above 85% , elemental sulfur was observed while nitrate was absent in effluent. The balance of sulfur, nitrogen and electron was discussed respectively, which indicated that the integrated SDD process could be actualized. These resuhs might provide a guidance to further investigate the key factors affecting the integrated SDD process and to improve the efficiency of desulfurization and denitrification in wastewater treatment.
