It is proved that the right spread order is closed under the formation of parallel systems with independent and identical components. As an application,the simple upper bounds for both the mean and the variance of the life length of a parallel system with independent and identical NBUE components are obtained. Furthermore,it is proved that the right spread order is also closed under increasing convex transformations under some conditions.

Some new oscillation criteria are established for the second-order matrix differential system （r（t）Z＇（t））＇＋ p（t）Z＇（t）＋ Q（t）F（Z＇（t））G（Z（t）） = 0, t ≥ to 〉 0, are different from most known ones in the sense that they are based on the information only on a sequence of subintervals of [to,∞）, rather than on the whole half-line. The results weaken the condition of Q（t） and generalize some well-known results of Wong （1999） to nonlinear matrix differential equation.

Trust region methods are powerful and effective optimization methods. The conic model method is a new type of method with more information available at each iteration than standard quadratic-based methods. The advantages of the above two methods can be combined to form a more powerful method for constrained optimization. The trust region subproblem of our method is to minimize a conic function subject to the linearized constraints and trust region bound. At the same time, the new algorithm still possesses robust global properties. The global convergence of the new algorithm under standard conditions is established.

The purpose of this paper is to consider the expected value of a discounted penalty due at ruin in the Erlang（2） risk process under constant interest force. An integro-differential equation satisfied by the expected value and a second-order differential equation for the Laplace transform of the expected value are derived. In addition, the paper will present the recursive algorithm for the joint distribution of the surplus immediately before ruin and the deficit at ruin. Finally, by the differential equation, the defective renewal equation and the explicit expression for the expected value are given in the interest-free case.
