Acute articular soft tissue injury, a frequently encountered disease, is often clinically treated with analgesics, Chinese drugs for relaxing muscles and tendons to promote blood circulation, physiotherapy and acupuncture. These therapies can achieve certain curative effects, however, there is a longer course of treatment and some cases even have sequela particularly in such weight-carrying joints as the ankle joint and the knee joint. The therapeutic method of blood letting puncture with plum-blossom needle and cupping is adopted to treat this disease with satisfactory therapeutic effect. The results are reported as follows.

Subjective: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) of acupoints of the Heart Meridian and Lung Meridian on ischemic cardiac systolic ability for analyzing the relative specific relationship between the Heart Meridian and the heart. Methods: Acute myocardial ischemia (AMI) was produced by intravenous infusion of pituitrin (40 u + 5% glucose injection 500 ml, 60 drips/min) in the rabbit. Left intraventricular pressure (LVP), maximal rising velocity of LVP (dp/dt max), isovolumetric pressure (IP) and end-diastolic pressure (EDP) of the left cardiac ventricle were used as the indexes. Three points of Heart Meridian [HM, from 'Shenmen' (HT 7) to 'Lingdao' (HT 4)] and the three points of Lung Meridian [LM, from 'Taiyuan' (LU 9) to 'Lieque' (LU 7)] were punctured with filiform needles and stimulated with hand-manipulation and electrically with ZY2-1 EA Therapeutic Apparatus. 30 rabbits anesthetized with urethane (1 g/kg) were randomly and evenly divided into control group, HM group and LM group. Result-s: The effects of EA of HM points were evidently superior to those of EA of LM points in promoting the recovery of both AMI-induced decrease of LVP and dp/dtmax, and AMI-induced increase of IP and EDP. Conclusion: Acupoints of Heart Meridian has a relatively specific connection with the heart in comparison with those of Lung Meridian; and the Heart Meridian is a functional whole.

Background:Degree of mucosal recovery is an important indicator for evaluating the therapeutic effects of drugs in treatment of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).Increasing evidences has proved that tight junction(TJ)barrier dysfunction is one of the pathological mechanisms of *** aim of this study was to observe whether enhancement of TJ can decrease colitis ***:Eighty C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into four groups including normal group,colitis group,sulfasalazine(SASP)treated group,and traditional Chinese drug salvianolic acid B(Sal B)treated *** was established in mice by free drinking water containing dextran sulfate sodium,after treatments by SASP and Sal B,recombinant human interleukin-1b(IL-1b)was injected intraperitoneally to induce colitis ***:Compared with sham control,cell apoptosis in colitis group was increased from 100.85±3.46%to 162.89±11.45%(P=0.0038),and TJ dysfunction marker myosin light chain kinase(MLCK)was also significantly increased from 99.70±9.29%to 296.23±30.78%(P=0.0025).The increased cell apoptosis was reversed by both SASP(125.99±8.45%vs.162.89±11.45%,P=0.0059)and Sal B(104.27±6.09%vs.162.89±11.45%,P=0.0044).High MLCK expression in colitis group was reversed by Sal B(182.44±89.42%vs.296.23±30.78%,P=0.0028)but not influenced by SASP(285.23±41.04%vs.296.23±30.78%,P>0.05).The recurrence rate induced by recombinant human IL-1b in Sal B-treated group was significantly lower than that in SASP-treated ***:These results suggested a link between intestinal mucosal barrier dysfunction,especially TJ barrier dysfunction,and colitis *** TJ barrier dysfunction in remission stage of colitis increased the colitis *** study might provide potential treatment strategies for IBD recurrence.

Spinal cord injuries are damages that result in complete or partial loss of sensation and/or mobility and affect the life qualities of many patients. Their pathophysiology in-cludes primary and secondary processes, which are related with the activation of astrocytes and microgliacytes and the degeneration of oligodendrocytes. Although transplan-tation of embryonic stem cells or neural progenitor cells is an attractive strategy for repair of the injured central ner-vous system (CNS), transplantation of these cells alone for acute spinal cord injuries has not resulted in robust axon regeneration beyond the injury sites. This may be due to the progenitor cells differentiating to the cell types that sup-port axon growth poorly and/or their inability to modify the inhibitory environment of adult CNS after injury. Recent studies indicate that transplantation of glial progenitor cells has exhibited beneficial effects on the recovery and promis-ing future for the therapy strategy of spinal cord injury. In this review, we summarized the data from recent literature regarding glial implications in transplantation therapy of spinal cord injury.

Objective： To construct a quantitative ethical evaluation index system for the clinical approval of medical technology in China. Methods： Exploratory factor analysis （EFA） and first-order confirmatory factor analysis （CFA） based on a structure equation model （SEM）, higher-order CFA and normalisation were used to establish an ethical evaluation index system for the clinical approval of medical technology. Data were processed in SPSS 13.0 and Lisre 15.3. Results： There were 52 third class indices, 15 second class indices, and 3 first class indices in this ethical evaluation index system. The weight of each index was calculated by normalisation. Conclusion： This study developed a three-level ethical evaluation index system, comprising 70 indices, for the clinical approval of medical technology.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy and safety of Sancai powder in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) inadequately controlled with single oral metformin in a randomized controlled trial(RCT).METHODS: A total of 132 patients with T2 DM were enrolled in the study, who only took metformin(500-1000 mg/day) for at least three months and with inadequate glycemic control(7.0% ≤ hemoglobin A1 c ≤ 9.0%) in the past three *** patients stopped taking metformin with lifestyle interventions for three weeks, and 105 patients qualified for the program. They were randomly divided into the Sancai powder group and the metformin group(1500 mg/day). The follow-up period was for 12 weeks. Comparisons of several variables were ***: No significant differences were found between the two groups in hemoglobin A1c(Hb A1c),fasting plasma glucose(FPG) and 2 h post-meal glucose(2h PG), although they had decreased significantly(P < 0.01). Homeostasis model assessment of beta cell function index was significantly improved in Sancai powder group(P < 0.01), and there were significant differences in the changes of homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance and insulin sensitivity index in the two groups(P < 0.05). Sancai powder significantly reduced triglyceride level(P < 0.05), although there was no significant difference in the body weight and body mass index in the two ***: In this 12-week study, Sancai powder could significantly reduce hemoglobin A1 c,FPG and 2h PG levels, improved beta-cell function and insulin resistance of the T2 DM inadequately controlled with metformin.

Objective： The present study is to observe and compare the different effects of electroacupuncture（EA） at acupoint Neiguan （PC 6）, intravenous administration of L-arginine（L-Arg, a precursor of nitric oxide）, and the drug administration combined with the EA on acute myocardial ischemia（AMI） in rats. Methods. The rat model of AMI was established by occlusion of the anterior descending branch of the left coronary artery, then the animals were divided randomly into 5 groups, i.e. control group, AMI group, L-Arg treatment group, EA treatment group and L-Arg plus EA treatment group, the mean arterial pressure（MAP）, heart rate（HR） and the cardiac functions were observed and recorded. Results： The data showed that MAP, HR and all the indices of cardiac functions in the AMI group were significantly lower than those in control group, and the indices in each treatment group were all improved to different extents, especially in L-Arg plus EA treatment group. *** combined use of L-Arg and EA had the better therapeutic effect on the AMI.

Background Bloodstream infections （BSls） remain a major cause of morbidity and mortality in patients undergoing surgery. This study aimed at elucidating the clinical characteristics of community-acquired BSIs （CABs） and nosocomial BSIs （nBSIs） in patients admitted to the surgical wards of a teaching hospital in Beijing, China. Methods This cross-sectional study compared 191 episodes of BSIs in 4074 patients admitted to the surgical wards between January 2008 and December 2011. Cases of BSIs were classified as CABs or nBSIs, and the characteristics, relevant treatments, and outcomes of CABs and nBSIs were compared. Results Of the 191 BSIs, 52 （27.2%） and 139 （72.8%）were CABs and nBSIs, respectively. Escherichia coli, coagulasenegative staphylococci, and Klebsiella spp, were the most frequently isolated microorganisms. There were significant differences between CABs and nBSIs with respect to the use of hormonal drugs, ventilation, acute physiology and chronic health evaluation （APACHE） Ⅱand American Society of Anesthesiologists scores, and prevalence of cancer （P 〈0.05）. Empirical antibacterial therapy did not decrease the crude mortality, but multivariate analysis showed that high APACHE Ⅱwas independently associated with a risk of mortality （odds ratio =0.97, 95% confidence interval： 0.93-1.02 for APACHE Ⅱ）. Conclusions We found significant differences in the clinical characteristics of surgical patients with CABs and nBSIs. The outcome of patients seems to be related to hiah APACHE Ⅱ scores.
