An experimental study of the drying characteristics of an agitated fluidized bed dryer is presented and discussed. In the study, the citric acid particles were used as bed material with the diameters ranging from 0.2 mm to 1.3 mm. The variables affecting apparently the drying rate were found to be the mass flow rate, the inlet air temperature, the rotary speed of agitating mechanism and the particles feed rate. Comparing with other variables considered, mass flow rate was found to have the least important influence on the drying rate. The agitated fluidized bed dryer is suitable to drying agglomerating or sticky materials.

As part of a major effort to undersand and quantify the cnvironmental conditions in Lake Yanaka, the circulation patterns in Lake Yanaka were analyzed through the application of a three dimensional hydrodynamic model. The model was validated with field observation, and then used to study the response of the lake to different forcing. The information on flow structures obtained in the present study is useful for further study of water quality in the lake.

A high-resolution finite element scheme is developed for the computation offree surface problems. The present higher-order accuracy scheme is obtained through the introductionof the difference of almost equal amount of diffusion and antidiffusion, where the antidiffusion isformulated as approximation to diffusion making use of consecutive gradient. The non-oscillatoryproperties are secured by limiters to preserve positivity constraints. The implement of the schemeis based on semi-discrete form and can be considered as reconstruction of the coefficient matrix ofalgebraic system, so, it can he conveniently used by either structured or unstructured meshes. Thepower and flexibility of the present high resolution VOF-FEM approach is validated by examplesincluding convective transport, dam breaking flow, and stilling basin flow in hydraulic eng.neering.

Three methods for studying wave groups and their main parameters for describing wave groupiness are reviewed in this paper. Then they are analyzed and compared combined with field data from both aspects of group height and group leng.h. A method and two parameters that can describe wave groupiness are suggested. The groupiness parameters of sea waves at three field stations are given. The effects of groupiness on both distributions of the wave height and the phase of component waves are investigated. The effects of datum leng.h on the calculated value of grouping parameters are also discussed.

The "5·12" Wenchuan Earthquake presents two challeng.s-reconstruction of the devastated areas and building adequate seismic resistance into the rest of *** stages in recovery include structural condition assessment,identification of seismic weaknesses,appreciation of the variable seismicity of PR China,the development of a seismic performance index to aid the decision to relocate,rebuild or retrofit,development and application of the principles of retrofitting which recycles rubble and waste from Wenchuan "5·12",with an emphasis on integrating masonry construction into seismic *** recovery and resilience achieved through structural eng.neering must be integrated into a broader community involvement in disaster risk reduction.

The testing of thirteen reinforeed concrete （RC） beams streng.hened by epoxy-bonded glass fiber reinforced plastic plate （GFRP） shows that the RC beam and the GFRP plate with epoxy bonding on it can work fairly well in coordination to eaeh other. But there is relative slipping between RC beam and GFRP plate. And the strain of GFRP and steel rebar of RC beam satisfies the quasi-plane-hypothesis, that is, the strain of longitudinal fiher that parallels to the neutral axis of plated beam within the scope of effective height （ h0 ） of the cross section is in direct proportion to the distance from the fiber to the neutral axis. The strain of GFRP and steel rebar satisfies the equation： εGFRP=Kεsteel.
