Generally speaking,anionic metal concentrations in wastewater from industries and mineral processing plants are well above the allowed limits for effluent set by the Ministry of Environment of Japan. Nowadays,the removal of anionic ions has been considered difficult and development of new process is desperately needed. In this paper,we report the development of three hydroxide-type adsorbents,illustrating their adsorption efficiency in removing As,Se,Mo and Sb ions from aqueous solutions. The main finding of this work was that the adsorption behavior was influenced very much by both the pH and the adsorbent concentration. Nevertheless,the newly developed hydroxide-type adsorbents were very effective in reducing the concentration of those anionic ions.

The solid state synthesis can be carried out by using the initial pure metal zinc and inorganic sulfur powder mixtures by means of the mechanochem.cal synthesis route. The completion of solid state reaction between pure zinc and sulfur powder to produce c-ZnS and h-ZnS phases via such a route was rather fast, as compared to other non-sulfide systems by the similar method. The study was aimed to investigate the microstructure development and phase formation through the solid state reaction by controlling the processing parameters involved in this process including grinding media to powder weight ratio, solid state reaction duration, reaction atmosphere, stoichiometric ratio of zinc and sulfur elements, grinding media and choice of minor additives such as teflon-based polymeric lubricants and transition metal dopants (Mn, Cu). Both as-synthesized powders and heat-treated ZnS materials with various stoichiometric ratios were characterized by XRD, EXAFS and XANES analysis. The interesting results from X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) would provide us some strong evidence whether stoichiometric and non-stoichiometric ZnS material can be successfully formed. The minor amount (0.5wt%)of Mn+2 or Cu+2 ion dopants added to the powder batch with the Zn/S stoichiometric ratio between1.00 to 1.05 was found to favor the reaction rate in the mechanochem.cal synthesis. Moreover, the obtained results of ZnS phase development under reaction conditions and different transition metal dopants in this study would imply that synthesis of other kind of sulfide compounds can be achieved using the demonstrated technique.

Co-liquefaction of coal and sawdust was studied in the presence of hydrogen-donor solvent, tetralin. Coal samples were prepared through floatation of the Xinwen coal, followed by enrichment of maceral constituents. Sample I was rich in vitrinite and Sample II fusinite. Effects of reactiontemperature, time and initial cold H2 pressure were studied on conversion, yield, especially oil yield,through comparison between these two samples. Because it is more difficult to be liquefied, Sample II, is greatly affected by changes in temperature and time. However, it is almost independent of change ininitial cold H2 pressure, owing to the role of tetralin as hydrogen vehicle. Certain product(s) formed from thermolysis of sawdust can help hydrogenation of the intermediate (asphaltene and preasphaltene) infurther forming oil products.

NiTi alloy is produced by mechanical alloying(MA). It becomes amorphous after milling for enough time, such as 100 h in this paper. DSC measurement shows that the crystallization temperature is 676 K for the amorphous powder. Activation energy of crystallization is 199.98 kJ/mol for MA powder, which is lower than that of amorphous prepared by magnetron sputtering. Avrami parameter of crystallization is 1.07.

The vertical density profiles of the gas-liquid mixture on the flow-guide sieve tray and conventional sieve tray have been studied by gamma-ray absorption technique. It has been found that the inflection points of entrainment rates can be regarded as the criterion of transition of flow regimes and that the operating range between two inflection points is the transition regime. The relationships have been established for the lqiuid hold-up (or clear liquid height), the average dispersion density and the transition of flow regime.

The new ligand bis-（1,4-sodium thiolactate） butane （L）-O2CCH3S-（CH2）4SCHCH3CO2- has been prepared from the reaction of disodium salt of thiolactic acid and 1,4-dichlorobutane, while the disodium thiolactate was prepared instanteously through the reaction of thiolactic acid with NaOH. Mono and dinuclear complexes were obtained by direct reaction of the above ligands with H[AuCI4] in 1 ： 1, 2：1, 1：2, 2：2 and 3：1 ligands to metal molar ratio. The prepared complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, spectral studies FTIR （Fourier transform Infrared） and UV-Vis, magnetic measurement, conductivity measurement and IHNMR for the ligand （L） and some of the complexes. The conductance data indicate that the complexes of the formulas Na[Au（SCH3CHCOO）2], Na[Au（SCH3CHCOO）（OOCCHCH3SH）2] and [Au（L）]Cl are 1：1 electrolyte. Electronic spectra and magnetic moment values indicate the presence of square planner geometry around Au（III） ions.
