Association between Prenatal Environmental Factors and Child Autism: A Case Control Study in Tianjin,China

Objective To investigate the association between autism and prenatal environmental risk *** A case-control study was conducted among 193 children with autism from the specialeducational schools and 733 typical development controls matched by age and gender by usingquestionnaire in Tianjin from 2007 to 2012. Statistical analysis included quick unbiased efficientstatistical tree （QUEST） and logistic regression in SPSS *** There were four predictors by QUEST and the logistic regression analysis, maternal airconditioner use during pregnancy （OR=0.316, 95% CI： 0.215-0.463） was the single first-level node（χ2=50.994, P=0.000）; newborn complications （OR=4.277, 95% CI： 2.314-7.908） and paternalconsumption of freshwater fish （OR=0.383, 95% CI： 0.256-0.573） were second-layer predictors（χ2=45.248, P=0.000; χ2=24.212, P=0.000）; and maternal depression （OR=4.822, 95% CI： 3.047-7.631）was the single third-level predictor （χ2=23.835, P=0.000）. The prediction accuracy of the tree was 89.2%.Conclusion The air conditioner use during pregnancy and paternal freshwater fish diet might bebeneficial for the prevention of autism, while newborn complications and maternal depression might bethe risk factors.

The early childhood care is important not only for individual Greek children and families but also for Greek society at large. Furthermore, it needs to be secured that the burden of labour and the raising of child is not only a woman＇s duty. There is a broad recognition that a strategy for developing early childhood services and childcare to support mother＇s labour force participation is in the public interest and should be the primary scope of the national health and social care policy. The inadequate organization of the child welfare system has adverse effects on the well-being, and function of the family. Only the improvement of the expected protection can lead to social politics that will give a chance to mother and child to live in conditions fitting human value and dignity. Herein, we presented the regulations and services along with health care professionals that refer to the protection of child in Greece.

Does Periconceptional Fish Consumption by Parents Affect the Incidence of Autism Spectrum Disorder and Intelligence Deficiency?A Case-control Study in Tianjin,China

Objective This study aimed to explore the association between periconceptional fish consumption by parents and autism spectrum disorder （ASD） and intelligence deficiency （ID）. Methods A case-control study was conducted through a questionnaire with 108 ASD cases, 79 ID cases, and 108 controls. The ASD and ID cases were students from special educational schools in Tianjin from 2012 to 2014. The age- and sex-matched controls were from a high school, three primary schools, and a kindergarten in Tianjin. Multivariate logistic regression was performed. Results Paternal habit of eating hairtail before fertilization, maternal preference for fruits during pregnancy, and maternal habit of eating grass carp during pregnancy were preventive factors for ASD. Paternal habit of drinking alcohol before fertilization was a risk factor for ID, whereas maternal preference for fruits during pregnancy and maternal habit of eating crucian carp during pregnancy were protective factors for ID. Conclusion Parental fish consumption is beneficial for the prevention of ASD and ID. Meanwhile, the protective effects of fish consumption on ASD and ID differ. More attention should be paid to the combined effect of other food when eating fish.

Mammalian fertilization is a highly regulated process, much of which are not clearly understood. Here we presentsome information in order to elaborate a working hypothesis for this process, beginning with the sperm modifications inthe epidydimis up to sperm and egg plasmalemma interaction and fusion. We also discuss the still poorly understood ca-pacitation process, the phenomenon of sperm chemo-attraction that brings the capacitated sperm to interact with theoocyte vestments and certain aspects of the acrosome reaction. Objective To calculate couple-year of protection （CYP） by conversion coefficient （F） of tubectomy and vasectomy in urban and rural regions of Iran. Methods A total of 103 450 married women aged 10-49 years in 2005 across urban and rural regions of lran were sampled by multi stage cluster sampling. The data were collected by household survey and direct interview and analyzed by STATA8.0 software and survey analysis commands. Results Mean age of the women at the time of tubectomy estimated 31.9 years and conversion coefficient of tubectomy was 17.1 ±0.1. Mean age of women at the time of her husband vasectomy estimated 31.48 years and its conversion coefficient was 17. 5 ± 0. 1. Cluster analysis defined different regions of Iran on the basis of evaluated conversion coefficients of tubectomy and vasectomy which both of them presented seven clusters. Literacy of women and total coverage of family planning in a region had a direct relationship with this conversion coefficient （P〈0.05）. Conclusion The variations observed in the conversion coefficients and their dissimilarity among different regions of Iran may be due to a variety of fundamental factors of which literacy and culture are of important factors.

Diagnostic overshadowing refers to a phenomenon commonly characterised by a person with pre-existing or recently diagnosed mental illness receiving inadequate attention for symptoms of physical illness,which are then misattributed as manifestations of the mental *** are potentially several underlying reasons for this,including diagnostic challenges in establishing a medical cause for the presenting symptoms,likely lack of expertise in medicine,stigma directed towards mental illness,a protean or polymorphic presentation not immediately relating to an established nosology,lack of a reliable evidence base in the area leading to an inability to correlate with established medical diagnoses as well as biases towards treating surface-level symp-toms instead of identifying the underlying causes.

THE ANALYSIS OF CHILD′S GROWTH TREND DURING 1958～1995 IN XI′AN CITY

The paper analyzed the growth level and velocity to find the growth trend with the data collected in 8 investigations on growth of children aged 7～17 years in 1958～1995 in Xi′an. The results showed that child′s growth level was elevated with the passage of years and was the lowest in 1962, the highest in 1995 during the 38 years. The height of boy of the same age in 1995 has average increased by 9 59 cm over 1958 and girl 8 38 cm. The weight of boy of the same age in 1995 has averagely increased by 8 35 kg over 1958 and girl 5 90 kg. The chest girth of boy of the same age in 1995 has average increased by 5 69 cm over 1958 and girl 4 66 cm. The growth level of children aged 9～15 years had greater increase than others in 7～17 years of age. The average increment per 10 years of boy's height was 2 57 cm and girl's 2 26 cm. The average increment of per 10 years of boy's weight was 2 17 kg and girl's 1 56 kg. The average increment of per 10 years of boy's chest girth was 1 50 cm and girl's 1 23 cm. The analysis of the growth velocity in different period during 38 years showed the velocity in 1958～1962 was a negative value and indicated a growth retard, but the velocity in 1962～1964 was the fastest and indicated a catch up growth. And then, growth velocities of height, weight and chest girth were different in different period. The analysis of the growth curves of height, weight and chest girth showed that the 2 cross ages were 1～3 years of age ahead of time and menarche and emission also were ahead of time that during the 38 years indicated there is a child's growth acceleration in Xi′an and the trend of child's growth acceleration could continue if there are more and better nourishment, sports requisites, health care and housing conditions.

Objective To analyze and evaluate the impact of adolescents’ sexual and reproductive health education on students’ sexual knowledge,attitude and *** A short term intervention was conducted among high school students in two schools in Xixiang county,Shaanxi *** intervention was carried out in the forms of manual,video,discussion,consultation,and so on .The contents of intervention consisted of the knowledge about adolescent physiology,care,conception,STD/HIV, and so on. Results The results showed that students’ knowledge increased significantly(11.92±4.61 before intervention vs 19.81±4.8 after intervention, P =0.000).The sexual attitude and behavior changed insignificantly,especially the change of *** The intervention is significantly effective in increasing knowledge,but less effective in the change of attitude and almost ineffective in the behavior change.
