Neutralizing antibodies targeting the receptor-binding domain(RBD)of the SARS-CoV-2 spike(S)block severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)entry into cells via surface-expressed angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2).We used a surrogate virus neutralization test(sVNT)and SARS-CoV-2 S protein-pseudotyped vesicular stomatitis virus(VSV)vector-based neutralization assay(pVNT)to assess the degree to which serum antibodies from coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)convalescent patients interfere with the binding of SARS-CoV-2 S to *** tests revealed neutralizing anti-SARS-CoV-2 S antibodies in the sera of ~90% of mildly and 100% of severely affected COVID-19 convalescent ***,sVNT and pVNT results correlated strongly with each other and to the levels of anti-SARS-CoV-2 S1 IgG and IgA ***,levels of neutralizing antibodies correlated with the duration and severity of clinical symptoms but not with patient *** to pVNT,sVNT is less sophisticated and does not require any biosafety *** this assay is also much faster and cheaper,sVNT will not only be important for evaluating the prevalence of neutralizing antibodies in a population but also for identifying promising plasma donors for successful passive antibody therapy.

The Difficult Path from Perception to Precautionary Action-Participatory Modeling as a Practical Tool to Overcome the Risk Perception Paradox in Flood Preparedness

The risk perception paradox illustrates the perception of natural hazards as not directly related to a willingness to act or engage in precautionary behavior. Yet the utilization of participatory processes can help to overcome this gap. In a practical example in the watershed of the Danube River and its contributing streams in germany,we aimed to solve questions about the value of participatory modeling as a method to bridge the gap linked to flood polder planning and a relocation of a dike for protection against high floods(centennial floods and rarer). Local communities, citizen initiatives, and nongovernmental environmental organizations joined together for round table discussions initiated by the water management authorities. A participatory modeling process enabled these diverse stakeholders to engage with the experts who built the groundwater models for the planning process. As part of this study, two case studies are presented. In the first example, neutral mediators assisted the round table ‘‘Flood Polder Katzau(Danube)'' in order to cultivate mutual trust and understanding between the authorities and the former opponents of the project. This process is still ongoing,challenged by long-term planning and the more immediate obstacle of current political changes. The second case studyis located on the river Alz, a tributary of the river Inn,which flows into the Danube, where the relocation of a dike was planned. This article demonstrates how participatory modeling contributes to bridging the gap between a local resident's risk perception and real action in the case of flood preparedness.

High-dose interferon-α2b induction therapy in combination with ribavirin for treatment of chronic hepatitis C in patients with non-response or relapse after interferon-a monotherapy

AIM： To evaluate the daily high-dose induction therapy with interferon-α2b （IFN-α2b） in combination with ribavirin for the treatment of patients who failed with interferon monotherapy and had a relapse, based on the assumption that the viral burden would decline faster, thus increasing the likelihood of higher response rates in this difficult-totreat patient group. METHODS： Seventy patients were enrolled in this study. Treatment was started with 10 NU IFN-α2b daily for 3 wk, followed by IFN-α2b 5 NU/TIW in combination with ribavirin （1 000-1 200 mg/d） for 21 wk. In case of a negative HCV RNA PCR, treatment was continued until wk 48 （IFN-α2b 3MU/TIW＋1000-1200 mg ribavirin/daily）. RESULTS： The dose of IFN-α2b or ribavirin was reduced in 16% of patients because of hematologic side effects, and treatment was discontinued in 7% of patients. An early viral response （EVR） was achieved in 60% of patients. Fifty percent of all patients achieved an end-oftreatment response （EOT） and d0% obtained a sustained viral response （SVR）. Patients with no response had a significantly lower response rate than those with a former relapse （SVR 30% vs 53%; P=0.049）. Furthermore, lower response rates were observed in patients infected with genotype la/b than in patients with non-1-genotype （SVR 28% vs7d%; P=0.001）. As a significant predictive factor for a sustained response, a rapid initial decline of HCV RNA could be identified. No patient achieving a negative HCV-RNA PCR at wk 18 or later eventually eliminated the virus. CONCLUSION： Daily high-dose induction therapy with interferon-α2b is well tolerated and effective for the treatment of non-responders and relapsers, when interferon monotherapy fails. A fast decline of viral load during the first 12 wk is strongly associated with a sustained viral response.

New Developments in Thermo-Chemical Diffusion Processes

Thermo-chemical diffusion processes like carburising, nitriding and boronizing play an important part in modern manufacturing technologies. They exist in many varieties depending on the type of diffusing element used and the respective process procedure. The most important industrial heat treatment process is case-hardening, which consists of thermochemical diffusion process carburising or its variation carbonitriding, followed by a subsequent quench. The latest developments of using different gaseous carburising agents and increasing the carburising temperature are one main area of this *** other area is the evolvement of nitriding and especially the ferritic nitrocarburising process by improved process control and newly developed process variations using carbon, nitrogen and oxygen as diffusing elements in various process steps. Also boronizing and special thermo-chemical processes for stainless steels are discussed.

目的评价UNIVERS3-D肩关节假体置换治疗盂肱关节不稳性骨关节炎的临床效果。方法采用UNIVERS3-D肩关节假体置换治疗16例盂肱关节不稳性骨关节炎,平均随访30.8个月(12～50个月),术前、术后12个月及最后随访均进行功能评估和摄X线片。功能评估采用Constant评分和Constant修正评分;评分内容包括:疼痛、日常生活、活动范围和肌力评分;根据性别及随访时的年龄进行功能修正评分。采用t检验对术前、术后12个月及最后随访的Constant评分和Constant修正评分进行统计学分析。X线片包括:前后位、轴位和“Y”型位。结果术前盂肱关节不稳性骨关节炎肱骨头、盂唇下缘外生骨赘轻度占72.7%(8/11)。Constant功能评分从术前(43.8±13)分(修正评分51.36%±15.40%)提高到(70.6±17.69)分(修正评分86.44%±22.12%)。疼痛、日常生活、活动范围和肌力评分术后均较术前有明显的提高。肱骨假体无松动、下沉和倾斜,盂假体无松动、位移和倾斜。无肱骨假体头-颈连接部的松动和脱位。1例出现肱骨假体周围X线透亮带,透亮带系数小于1,即没有松动。2例发生并发症,1例由骨赘引起假体间撞击征,1例聚乙烯衬垫松动。结论UNIVERS3-D肩关节假体置换治疗盂肱关节不稳性骨关节炎术后较术前功能有明显的提高,X线透亮带发生率及并发症发生率低。

Efficient video-on-demand services over mobile datacast channels

The integration of reliable Video-on-Demand (VoD) broadcasting schemes in the DVB-h transmission system is studied, exemplary for Pyramid Broadcasting (PB). Sophisticated VoD broadcasting schemes such as PB allow receivers to tune into the ongoing transmission of a video-stream at arbitrary time, while still being able to receive the multimedia sequence from the beginning to end, after a short initial playout latency. Raptor coding, integrated in the FLUTE protocol, is combined with the traditional PB scheme in order to provide high service and presentation reliability. We give a short overview on the DVB-h transmission system as well as on the FLUTE protocol. We present and discuss options for the integration of VoD broadcasting schemes in combination with Raptor coding. We achieve backward-compatibility even with terminals not supporting Raptor coding. Simulation results show the benefits of the discussed VoD scheme compared to existing carousel approaches in DVB-h.

Expression of tissue factor in pancreatic adenocarcinoma is associated with activation of coagulation

AIM： To study expression of tissue factor （TF） in pancreatic cancer and its role in the development of thromboembolism.METHODS： TF expression was studied in eight human pancreatic carcinoma cell lines by Northern blot and indirect immunofluorescence. Expression of alternatively spliced TF （asTF） was assessed by RT-PCR. In addition, TF expression was determined by immunofluorescence in pancreatic tissues of 19 patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma （PCa）, 9 patients with chronic pancreatitis （CP） and 20 normal controls. Plasma samples （30 PCa-patients, 13 CP-patients and 20 controls） were investigated for soluble TF levels and coagulation activation markers [thrombin-antithrombin Ⅲ complex （TAT）, prothrombin fragment 1 ＋ 2 （F1 ＋ 2）]. RESULTS： All pancreatic carcinoma cell lines expressed TF （8/8） and most of them expressed asTF （6/8）. TF expression at the protein level did not correlate with the differentiation of the carcinoma cell line. All but two pancreatic cancer tissue samples stained positive for TF （17/19）. In all samples of CP weak staining was restricted to pancreatic duct cells, whereas only a few subendothelial cells were positive in 9/20 of normal controls. TF and TAT levels in PCa patients were significantly elevated compared to controls whereas elevated F1 ＋ 2 levels did not reach statistical significance compared to controls. In CP patients TAT and F1 ＋ 2 levels proved to be significantly elevated compared to controls, although TAT elevation was less pronounced than in PCa patients. CONCLUSION： We conclude that in addition to the upregulated expression of TF on the cell membrane, soluble TF might contribute to activation of the coagulation system in pancreatic cancer.

Expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase-2 in pancreatic adenocarcinoma:Correlation with microvessel density

AIM:Cydooxygenases (COX) are key enzymes for conversion of arachidonic acid to *** oxide synthase (NOS) is the enzyme responsible for formation of nitric oxide. Both have constitutive and inducible *** inducible isoforms (iNOS and COX-2) are of great interest as regulators of tumor angiogenesis,tumorigenesis and inflammatory *** study was to clarify their role in pancreatic adenocarcinomas. METHODS:We investigated the immunohistochemical iNOS and COX-2 expression in 40 pancreatic ductal adenocardnomas of different grade and *** results were compared with microvessel density and dinicopathological data. RESULTS:Twenty-one (52.5%) of the cases showed iNOS expression,15 (37.5%) of the cases were positive for COX-2. The immunoreaction was heterogeneously distributed within the *** intensity was different between the *** correlation between iNOS and COX-2 expression was *** was no relationship with microvessel density. However,iNOS positive tumors developed more often distant metastases and the more malignant tumors showed a higher COX-2 *** was no correlation with other clinicopathological data. CONCLUSION:Approximately half of the cases expressed iNOS and *** two enzymes do not seem to be the key step in angiogenesis or carcinogenesis of pancreatic *** to a low prevalence of COX-2 expression,chemoprevention of pancreatic carcinomas by COX-2 inhibitors can only achieve a limited success.
