Association between the infection probability of COVID-19 and ventilation rates:An update for SARS-CoV-2 variants

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),the cause of the current coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic,is ***,the risk of airborne transmission in confined spaces may be higher,and corresponding precautions should be ***,we obtained the quantum generation rate(q)value of three SARS-CoV-2 variants(Alpha,Delta,and Omicron)for the Wells-Riley equation with a reproductive number-based fitted approach and estimated the association between the infection probability and ventilation *** q value was 89–165 h^(−1)for Alpha variant,312–935 h^(−1)for Delta variant,and 725–2,345 h^(−1)for Omicron *** ventilation rates increased to ensure an infection probability of less than 1%,and were 8,000–14,000 m^(3)h^(−1),26,000–80,000 m^(3)h^(−1),and 64,000–250,000 m^(3)h^(−1)per infector for the Alpha,Delta,and Omicron variants,*** the infector and susceptible person wore N95 masks,the required ventilation rates decreased to about 1/100 of the values required without masks,which can be achieved in most typical *** air purifier was ineffective for reducing transmission when used in scenarios without *** prolonged exposure time in confined spaces remains critical in reducing the risk of airborne transmission for highly contagious SARS-CoV-2 variants.

Objective: To observe the efficacy and safety of Guihuang Formula(GHF) in treating patients with type Ⅲ prostatitis and Chinese medicine syndrome of dampness-heat and blood stasis. Methods: Sixty-six type Ⅲ prostatitis patients with dampness-heat and blood stasis syndrome were randomly divided into the treatment group(GHF) and the control group(tamsulosin) using a random number table, with 33 cases each group. The treatment group received GHF twice a day, and the control group received tamsulosin 0.2 mg once daily before bedtime. Patients in both groups received treatment for 6 weeks and was followed up for 2 weeks. The outcomes included the National Institute of Health Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index(NIH-CPSI) score, Chinese Medicine Symptoms Score(CMSS), expressed prostatic secretions(EPS) and adverse events(AEs). Results: After treatment, the NIH-CPSI total score and domain scores of pain discomfort, urination and quality of life decreased significantly from the baseline in both groups(P0.05). In addition, no serious AEs were observed. Conclusion: GHF is effective in treating type Ⅲ prostatitis patients with dampness-heat and blood stasis syndrome without serious AEs.(Registration No. ChiCTR1900026966)

Aim: To investigate the effect of aging on the expression of nitric oxide synthase I (NOS I) and the activity of NOS in rat penis. Methods: Sixty male rats from 3 age groups (adult, old and senescent) were investigated. The expression of NOS I protein and mRNA in rat penis were detected by Western blot and RT-PCR respectively and the NOS activity, with ultraviolet spectrophotometry. Results: In the old and senescent group, NOS I protein expression was significantly decreased as compared with the adult. NOS I mRNA expression was well correlated with the protein expression. NOS activity was not statistically different between the adult and old groups, but it was significantly reduced in the senescent compared with the adult group (P<0.01). Conclusion: The aging-induced decreases in NOS I expression and NOS activity may be one of the main mechanisms leading to erectile dysfunction in the senescent rats.

The visco-elastoplastic mechanical behavior related to the applied strain rate and temperature around the glass transition temperature of Polymethylmethacrylate(PMMA)has been systematically *** uniaxial tensile test was performed at strain rate and temperature rangs 1.0×10^(-4)-1.0×10^(-2)s^(-1)and 363-393 K,respectively,and the Dynamic Mechanical Analysis(DMA)test was carried out between 363 K and 413 K at various ***,the robust complex constitutive model considering the temperature and strain rate effect is proposed.A nonlinear viscoelastic model is established to describe the viscoelastic response on the basis of the Zhu-Wang-Tang(ZWT)model and the time temperature equivalence principle,including the dependence of strain rate and *** the yield stress,the cooperative model is *** viscoplastic mechanical response is manifested as the competition performance of the softening deformation and hardening *** predicted mechanical responses maintain good consistency with the experimental results,indicating that the visco-elastoplastic constitutive model proposed can accurately predict the mechanical behavior of PMMA materials within the imposed strain rate and near the glass transition temperature range.

Sorting high-quality sperm with intact DNA,normal morphology,and active motility is crucial for clinically assisted reproductive technology,which influences the success of treatment and the health of ***,microfluidic technology has been developed as a powerful platform for sperm sorting owing to its ability to manipulate fluid at the microscale and handle small ***,microfluidic technology provides the necessary stimuli including fluid stimulus,chemical induction,and shape sift,which supports researchers in developing various sperm-sorting *** to the sorting principle,these devices can be divided into three categories:active sorting devices based on sperm rheological properties,passive sorting devices based on sperm physical properties,and external stimuli-induced sorting ***,we review a broad range of researches about sperm sorting with microfluidics and briefly present the properties of sperm and female reproductive tract to assist the design of microfluidic sperm sorting devices.

The penis is a vital organ of perception that transmits perceived signals to ejaculation-related *** penis consists of the glans penis and penile shaft,which differ considerably in both histology and *** paper aims to investigate whether the glans penis or the penile shaft is the main source of sensory signals from the penis and whether penile hypersensitivity affects the whole organ or only part of *** thresholds,latencies,and amplitudes of somatosensory evoked potentials(SSEPs)were recorded in 290 individuals with primary premature ejaculation using the glans penis and penile shaft as the sensory *** thresholds,latencies,and amplitudes of SSEPs from the glans penis and penile shaft in patients were significantly different(all P<0.0001).The latency of the glans penis or penile shaft was shorter than average(indicating hypersensitivity)in 141(48.6%)cases,of which 50(35.5%)cases were sensitive in both the glans penis and penile shaft,14(9.9%)cases were sensitive in the glans penis only,and 77(54.6%)cases were sensitive in the penile shaft only(P<0.0001).There are statistical differences in the signals perceived through the glans penis and the penile *** hypersensitivity does not necessarily mean that the whole penis is *** classify penile hypersensitivity into three categories,namely,glans penis,penile shaft,and whole-penis hypersensitivity,and we propose the new concept of penile hypersensitive zone.
