Potential Map for the Installation of Concentrated Solar Power in Northeast of Brazil Using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP)

Brazil has a predominantly renewable energy matrix, with large participation of water resource in domestic supply of energy. Data from 2019 National Energy Balance show that renewable sources (water, biomass, wind and solar photovoltaic) together represented 83% of domestic electric supply in 2018, where the remaining percentage (16.7%) represented non-renewable sources. The generation of electricity through thermal solar technology was not representative. However, it is known that Brazil presents high potential for the installation of solar thermal plants, especially in the Northeastern Region, where direct normal solar irradiation values are high. It is observed that the (high) costs of the projects associated to the absence of a specific incentive program make Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) plants installation more and more time consuming. As a way to contribute to the insertion of solar thermal energy in Brazil, this article presents a methodology for the location of parabolic trough solar thermal plants of 80 MW for the State of Bahia, located in the Northeastern Region of Brazil. Such methodology was based on the application the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method and the Geoprocessing Technologies to define potentially available sites for the implementation of the projects. For the analysis, parameters related to energy production in the solar power plant, electric, roadways and water infrastructure of the plant were taken into account, as well as the occupation, slopes and land use. Considering the analyses performed, it was confirmed that Bahia disposes of many sites with great generation potential, especially in the western region of the State (at Barreiras), where favorable conditions were found for the development of the technology. Localities situated in other region of the State were also confirmed as suitable, however with less site availability for the insertion of plants. Parametrization of Mean Radiative Properties of Optically Thin Steady-State Plasmas and Applications

Plasma radiative properties play a pivotal role both in nuclear fusion and *** are essential to analyze and explain experiments or observations and also in radiative-hydrodynamics *** computation requires the generation of large atomic databases and the calculation,by solving a set of rate equations,of a huge number of atomic level populations in wide ranges of plasma *** facts make that,for example,radiative-hydrodynamics in-line simulations be almost *** has lead to develop analytical expressions based on the parametrization of radiative ***,most of them are accurate only for coronal or local thermodynamic *** this work we present a code for the parametrization of plasma radiative properties of mono-component plasmas,in terms of plasma density and temperature,such as radiative power loss,the Planck and Rosseland mean opacities and the average ionization,which is valid for steady-state optically thin plasmas in wide ranges of plasma densities and ***,we also present some applications of this parametrization such as the analysis of the optical depth and radiative character of plasmas,the use to perform diagnostics of the electron temperature,the determination of mean radiative properties for multicomponent plasmas and the analysis of radiative cooling instabilities in some kind of experiments on high-energy density laboratory ***,to ease the use of the code for the parametrization,this one has been integrated in a user interface and brief comments about it are presented.

Amazonian Dark Earth and Its Black Carbon Particles Harbor Different Fungal Abundance and Diversity

Amazonian Dark Earth(Ade) is a highly fertile soil of anthropogenic origin characterized by high levels of charred black carbon(BC). It is considered a model of fertility; however, knowledge on the fungal community structure and diversity inhabiting Ade and its BC particles is scarce. Fungal community structure and diversity of Ade and its BC from four sites under different land uses(three agricultural systems and a secondary pristine forest) in the Brazilian Central Amazon were evaluated by 18S rRNA gene pyrosequencing. Fungal communities in Ade and BC were dissimilar and showed differential abundances of fungal operational taxonomic units(OTUs). Estimated fungal species richness(abundance-based coverage estimate and Chao-1 index) and diversity estimators(Shannon and Simpson's reciprocal indices) were higher in Ade than in BC in all agricultural areas. No differences were observed in those parameters in Ade and BC samples from the secondary forest. Pezizomycotina fungi and OTUs assigned to Cordyceps confragosa,Acremonium vitellinum, Camarops microspora, and Hirsutella rhossiliensis were more abundant in BC particles than in Ade. These findings represent a breakthrough in our understanding of fungal communities in BC particles from Ade, and will be valuable in future studies considering biochar application in soil.

Thalidomide was indicated as a sedative and antiemetic and prescribed for pregnant women. Its tragic teratogenic effects culminated in withdrawal from the market. Since the discovery of its anti-angiogenic and anti-inflammatory actions, thalidomide has been used in the treatment of leprosy and multiple myeloma, which justify studies of its stability. We investigated the effects of irradiation of thalidomide up to 100 kGy （fourfold the usual sterilizing dose for pharmaceutics）. The polymorph of thalidomide was obtained in an isothermal experiment at 270℃. All samples underwent gamma irradiation for specific times. At different doses, decomposition of the pharmaceutical was not observed up to 100 kGy. The observed effect was angle turning between the phthalimide and glutarimide rings modulated by repulsion towards the carbonyl group, leading to a stable energetic configuration, as measured by the equilibrium in the torsion angle after irradiation. The thalidomide molecule has a center of symmetry, so a full turn starting from 57.3° will lead to an identical molecule. Further irradiation will start the process again. Samples irradiated at 30 and 100 kGy have more compact unit cells and a lower volume, which leads to an increase in the intermolecular hydrogen interaction within the unit cell, resulting in higher thermal stability for polymorph α.
