Effects of population aging on the mortality burden of related cancers in urban and rural areas of China, 2004–2017: a population-based study

Objective:China is a developing country with urban–rural disparities and accelerating population ***,quantifying the effects of population aging on the cancer mortality burden is urgently ***:Using data from China’s death surveillance datasets(2004–2017),we decomposed and quantified the effects of population aging and factor variations on cancer mortality rates in urban and rural China during 2004–2017 through a decomposition method.R ratios were used to assess the extent of the mortality decreases attributable to factor variations offsetting the increases attributable to population aging for 4 aging-related cancers(lung,colorectal,esophageal,and stomach cancer).Results:Overall,population aging has led to continued increases in cancer mortality rates in China during 2004–2017(mortality rates attributable to population aging:8.63/100,000 for urban men,4.21/100,000 for urban women,11.95/100,000 for rural men,and 5.66/100,000 for rural women).The 4 cancers displayed 3 *** mortality rates from lung cancer in rural China and from colorectal cancer nationwide increased because of both population aging and factor *** aging was primarily responsible for the growing mortality due to lung cancer in urban ***,for esophageal and stomach cancer,the effect of population aging was not dominant,thus resulting in decreases in mortality ***:Health resource allocation should prioritize areas or cancers more adversely affected by population *** burden of cancer will continue to increase in the future,because of rapid population aging,but can still be offset or even reversed with enhanced cancer control and prevention.

Background Partial nephrectomy (PN) is considered the gold standard surgical treatment for renal masses otic-assisted laparoscopic PN (raPN) in high-volume centers, it has been increasingly adapted and standardized by urologists worldwide. There is growing evidence that the robot-assisted laparoscopic technique is associated with superior outcomes compared to those of open and conventional laparoscopic techniques. This study aimed to summarize the contemporary outcome data of raPN for renal tumors with varying degrees of complexity and to assess whether the outcomes reported from high-volume centers are reproducible in a limited caseload *** and methods This was a retrospective study of a single surgeon's experience, including 123 consecutive patients undergoing raPN at our institution. Ultimately, 110 patients were included in the analysis. Basic characteristics, tumor complexity as described by the RENAL score, complications described by the Clavien-Dindo classification system, and functional and oncological outcomes were assessed and analyzed *** Of the 110 patients, 27 (24%), 61 (55%), and 23 (21%) had low, intermediate, and high degrees of complexity, respectively, according to the RENAL score. A cancer-negative surgical margin was achieved in 108 (97%) patients. A total of 70 (64%) patients had no loss of renal function, while 20 (27%) had minimal loss of renal function. Complications of > 3 Clavien-Dindo classification during the first 30 postoperative days occurred in 5 (5%) patients. Walking pace and the risk of stroke:A meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies

Purpose:The extent to which walking pace is associated with a reduced risk for stroke remains *** study examined the association between walking pace and stroke risk based on prospective cohort ***:Databases of PubMed,EMBASE,Web of Science,Scopus,and China National Knowledge Internet were searched from the inception dates to January 31,2019,for prospective cohort studies focusing on walking pace and risk of stroke in *** reviewers independently extracted data and assessed the quality of the *** dependent measure was stroke *** random-effects models,a metaanalysis was performed to estimate the overall relative risks(RR)of stroke incidence and 95%confidence intervals(CIs)for the individuals with the fastest walking paces *** with the slowest walking paces.A dose-response relationship was also ***:After screening 1294 titles/abstracts and 14 full-text studies identified in the search,7 studies(from 8 cohorts)were included in the *** 7 studies included a total of 135,645 participants(95.2%women;mean age 63.6 years)and 2229 stroke events(median follow-up time=8.0 years).Compared to individuals in the slowest walking-pace category(median=1.6 km/h),individuals in the fastest walking-pace category(median=5.6 km/h)had a 44%lower risk of stroke(pooled RR=0.56,95%CI:0.48-0.65).There was also a linear dose-response relationship(RR=0.87;95%CI:0.83-0.91),with the risk of stroke decreased by 13%for every 1 km/h increment in baseline walking *** observed similar results across walking-pace assessment,type of stroke ascertainment,stroke subtypes,sex,sample size,and duration of ***:Findings from this meta-analysis indicate that walking pace is inversely associated with the risk of stroke.

Pharmacoepidemiologic study of association between apparent treatment resistant hypertension, cardiovascular disease and interaction effect by sex and age

Short-term effects of fine particulate matter constituents on myocardial infarction death

Existing evidence suggested that short-term exposure to fine particulate matter(PM_(2.5))may increase the risk of death from myocardial infarction(MI),while PM_(2.5) constituents responsible for this association has not been *** collected 12,927 MI deaths from 32 counties in southern China during 2011–***-level exposures of ambient PM_(2.5) and its 5 constituents(i.e.,elemental carbon(EC),organic carbon(OC),sulfate(SO_(4)^(2-)),ammonium(NH_(4)^(+)),and nitrate(NO_(3)^(-)))were aggregated from gridded datasets predicted by Community Multiscale Air Quality Modeling *** employed a space-time-stratified casecrossover design and conditional logistic regression models to quantify the association of MI mortality with short-term exposure to PM_(2.5) and its constituents across various lag *** the study period,the daily mean PM_(2.5) mass concentration was 77.8(standard deviation(SD)=72.7)μg/m^(3).We estimated an odds ratio of 1.038(95%confidence interval(CI):1.003-1.074),1.038(1.013-1.063)and 1.057(1.023-1.097)for MI mortality associated with per interquartile range(IQR)increase in the 3-day moving-average exposure to PM_(2.5)(IQR=76.3μg/m 3),EC(4.1μg/m^(3))and OC(9.1μg/m^(3)),*** did not identify significant association between MI death and exposure to water-soluble ions(SO_(4)^(2-),NH_(4)^(+)and NO_(3)^(-)).Likelihood ratio tests supported no evident violations of linear assumptions for constituents-MI *** analyses showed stronger associations between MI death and EC/OC exposure in the elderly,males and cold ***-term exposure to PM_(2.5) constituents,particularly those carbonaceous aerosols,was associated with increased risks of MI mortality.
