Foot reflexology is a non-invasive and safe complementary therapy that works by massaging the reflex zones of the feet and exerts systemic or whole-body regulation through meridian nerve *** therapy is commonly used in the treatment of various conditions such as autism and Parkinson's ***,there is limited reporting on the use of foot reflexology therapy for infants with sensorineural hearing loss(SNHL).Currently,there is no definitive conclusion on how foot reflexology therapy can influence *** editorial holds some guiding significance regarding this clinical *** aim is to present physiological evidence of how foot reflexology therapy can impact infants with SNHL,thereby enhancing clinician’s awareness of foot reflexology in treating infants with SNHL.

Male infertility caused by testicular damage is one of the complications of diabetes mellitus. The calcium-sensing receptor （CaSR） is expressed in testicular tissues and plays a pivotal role in calcium homeostasis by activating cellular signaling pathways, but its role in testicular damage induced by diabetes remains unclear. A diabetic model was established by a single intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin （STZ, 40 mg kg-1） in Wistar rats. Animals then received GdCl3 （an agonist of CaSR, 8.67 mg kg-1）, NPS-2390 （an antagonist of CaSR, 0.20 g kg-~）, or a combination of both 2 months after STZ injection. Diabetic rats had significantly lower testes weights and serum levels of testosterone compared to healthy rats, indicating testicular damage and dysfunction in STZ-induced diabetic rats. Compared with healthy controls, the testicular tissues of diabetic rats overexpressed the CaSR protein and had higher levels of malondialdehyde （MDA）, lower superoxide dismutase （SOD） and glutathione peroxidase （GSH-Px） activity, and higher numbers of apoptotic germ cells. The testicular tissues from diabetic rats also expressed lower levels of Bcl-2 and higher levels of Bax and cleaved caspase-3 in addition to higher phosphorylation rates of c-Jun NH2-terminal protein kinase （JNK）, p38, and extracellular signaling-regulated kinase （ERK） 1/2. The above parameters could be further increased or aggravated by the administration of GdCI3, but could be attenuated by injection of NPS-2390. In conclusion, the present results indicate that CaSR activation participates in diabetes-induced testicular damage, implying CaSR may be a potential target for protective strategies against diabetes-induced testicular damage and could help to prevent infertility in diabetic men.

The greatest advantages of laparoscopy when compared to open surgery include the faster recovery times, shorter hospital stays, decreased postoperative pain, earlier return to work and resumption of normal daily activity as well as cosmetic benefits. Laparoscopy today is considered the gold standard of care in the treatment of cholecystitis and appendicitis worldwide. Laparoscopy has even been adopted in colorectal surgery with good results. The technological improvements in this surgical field along with the development of modern techniques and the acquisition of specific laparoscopic skills have allowed for its utilization in operations with fully intracorporeal anastomoses. Further progress in laparoscopy has included single-incision laparoscopic surgery and natural orifice trans-luminal endoscopic surgery. Nevertheless, laparoscopy for emergency surgery is still considered challenging and is usually not recommended due to the lack of adequate experience in this area. The technical difficulties of operating in the presence of diffuse peritonitis or large purulent collections and diffuse adhesions are also given as reasons. However, the potential advantages of laparoscopy, both in terms of diagnosis and therapy, are clear. Major advantages may be observed in cases with diffuse peritonitis secondary to perforated peptic ulcers,for example, where laparoscopy allows the confirmation of the diagnosis, the identification of the position of the ulcer and a laparoscopic repair with effective peritoneal washout. Laparoscopy has also revolutionized the approach to complicated diverticulitis even when intestinal perforation is present. Many other emergency conditions can be effectively managed laparoscopically, including trauma in select hemodynamically-stable patients. AIM: To study the effect of albumin administration on lung injury in trauma/hemorrhagic shock (T/HS). METHODS: Sixty experimental animals were randomly divided into three groups: rats undergoing laparotomy without shock (T/SS); rats with T/HS and resuscitation with blood plus twice the volume of shed blood as Ringer’s lactate (RL), and rats with T/HS and resuscitation with blood plus additional 3 mL of 50 g/L human albumin. Expression of polymorphonuclear neutrophil (PMN) CD11b/CD18, intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) of jugular vein blood and the severity of lung injuries [determined mainly by measuring activity of lung tissue myeloperoxidase (MPO) and lung injury score (LIS)] were measured after a 3-h recovery period. RESULTS: All three groups showed a significant difference in the expressions of CD11b/CD18, ICAM-1, and severity of lung injury. The expressions of CD11b/ CD18 in T/SS group, T/HS + RL group, T/HS + albumin group were 17.76% ± 2.11%, 31.25% ± 3.48%, 20.36% ± 3.21%, respectively (F = 6.25, P < 0.05). The expressions of ICAM-1 (U/mL) in T/SS group, T/ HS + RL group, T/HS + albumin group were 258.76 ± 98.23, 356.23 ± 65.6, 301.01 ± 63.21, respectively (F = 5.86, P < 0.05). The expressions of MPO (U/g) in T/SS group, T/HS + RL group, T/HS + albumin group were 2.53 ± 0.11, 4.63 ± 1.31, 4.26 ± 1.12, respectively (F = 6.26, P < 0.05). Moreover, LIS in T/HS + RL group, T/HS + albumin group was 2.62 ± 0.23, 1.25 ± 0.24, respectively. The expressions of CD11b/CD18, ICAM-1 and MPO in T/HS + RL group were significantly increased compared to T/SS group (P = 0.025, P = 0.036, P = 0.028,respectively). However, administration of 3 mL of 50 g/L albumin significantly down-regulated the expressions of CD11b/CD18, ICAM-1 and lung injury index (MPO and LIS) when compared with the T/HS + RL rats (P = 0.035, P = 0.046, P = 0.038, P = 0.012, respectively). Most of the foreign bodies detected in adult gastroin- testinal systems are accidentally swallowed pins. In this study, we presented a case with intracolonic multiple pebbles. A 20-year-old man was admitted to emergency surgery policlinic for abdominal pain for 2 d without any alleviation or aggravation. His upright plain abdominal radiographic imaging revealed about 30-40 overt dense opacities in lumen of colonic segments, with oval and well shaped contours, each approximately 1 cm × 1 cm in size. The multiplanar reconstructions and three- dimensional images combined with sectional screening showed that all pebbles had passed completely into the colon and no foreign bodies had remained in the ileal segments. On psychiatric assessment, he was found to have immature personality features, difficulty in over- coming stressors and adaptation disorder. He recovered by conservative management and radiographic monitoring applied during his follow-up. Thus, it can be concluded that, in differential diagnosis of abdominal pain in adult ages, though less frequently seen than in children, gastrointestinal system foreign bodies should always be kept in mind and it should be considered that ingestion of pebbles may be one of the factors contributing to abdominal pain particularly in young adults with psychiatric problems. In such cases suspected of having foreign bodies which cannot be detected by plain films, abdominal tomography can be an alternative for diagnostic imaging.
