Federated Learning’s Role in Next-Gen TV Ad Optimization

In the rapidly evolving landscape of television advertising,optimizing ad schedules to maximize viewer engagement and revenue has become *** methods often operate in silos,limiting the potential insights gained from broader data analysis due to concerns over privacy and data *** article introduces a novel approach that leverages Federated Learning(FL)to enhance TV ad schedule optimization,combining the strengths of local optimization techniques with the power of global Machine Learning(ML)models to uncover actionable insights without compromising data *** combines linear programming for initial ads scheduling optimization with ML—specifically,a K-Nearest Neighbors(KNN)model—for predicting ad spot *** into account the diversity and the difficulty of the ad-scheduling problem,we propose a prescriptivepredictive approach in which first the position of the ads is optimized(using Google’s OR-Tools CP-SAT)and then the scheduled position of all ads will be the result of the optimization ***,this output becomes the target of a predictive task that predicts the position of new entries based on their characteristics ensuring the implementation of the scheduling at large scale(using KNN,Light Gradient Boosting Machine and Random Forest).Furthermore,we explore the integration of FL to enhance predictive accuracy and strategic insight across different broadcasting networks while preserving data *** FL approach resulted in 8750 ads being precisely matched to their optimal category placements,showcasing an alignment with the intended diversity ***,there was a minimal deviation observed,with 1133 ads positioned within a one-category variance from their ideal placement in the original dataset.

In biological neural systems, noise is ubiquitous but does not affect the correct decisions made in the complex cognitive ***-making in biological neural system is typically achieved by accumulating input information over a period of *** by recent developments in neurosciences, we design a decision-making module based on spintronic devices, utilizing superparamagnetic tunnel junctions as artificial neurons. The feasibility of this decision-making module is verified through circuit simulations. Taking a multi-layer perceptron as an example, the module significantly improves the accuracy of the perceptron in the handwritten digit recognition task. Furthermore, the spintronic decision-making module offers advantages over the conventional pooling methods, such as adaptive decision time, high performance and the absence of analog-to-digital conversion. The decision-making module is flexible to be integrated into artificial neural networks and provides a general yet effective solution to enhance performance against device noise.

Social Construction Functions of Consumption Space under Stratification:The Case of Guangzhou

As Chinese cities rapidly transformed themselves into consumerist societies,the relationship between consumers and consumption space under stratification has become a new research area in the field of urban social *** on a consumer behavior analysis,this study explores the relationship between consumption space and the social strata of consumers in typical shopping malls in Guangzhou where the first shopping mall in China was *** result shows that shopping malls have performed significant constructive functions of organizing consumers from different social classes into different consumption *** middle-and upper-class consumers,the function of shopping malls centers on utilitarian consumption,identity recognition,and identity construction;whereas for lower-class consumers,its function revolves around pleasure and *** symbolism of consumption space is the underlying reason for shopping malls to have their social constructive *** findings of this research suggest that:1) a shopping mall is a productive consumption space and a geographical space with subjectivity;2) the micro-location of a shopping mall has social construction function;and 3) symbolic consumption is the core of social construction.

The perception of a 3D space, in which movement takes place, is subjectively based on experience. The pedestrians＇ perception of subjective duration is one of the related issues that receive tittle attention in urban design Literature. Pedestrians often misperceive the required time to pass a certain distance. A wide range of factors affects one＇s perception of time in urban environments. These factors include individua（ factors （e.g., gender, age, and psychoLogicaL state）, social and cu（tural contexts, purpose and motivation for being in the space, and knowledge of the given area. This study aims to create an applied checklist that can be used by urban designers in analyzing the effects of individual experience on subjective duration. This checklist wilt enable urban designers to perform a phenomenotogicat assessment of time perception and compare this perception in different urban spaces, thereby improving pedestrians＇ experiences of time through a purposeful design. A combination of exploratory and descriptive anaLyticaL research is used as methodology due to the complexity of time perception.

Utilization of irradiance ratios for calculating the effect of reflections from obstructions in building energy simulation

The ability to take into account reflections from obstructions is of fundamental importance in building energy simulation (BES), because reflections can have a substantial influence on solar gains. In BES tools, this ability is often implemented duplicating functionalities that have already been solved efficiently in lighting simulation tools. This happens because importing those functionalities from a lighting simulation tool (source) into a BES tool (target) is usually a complex operation producing non-portable results. This article demonstrates that this ability can be imported modularly and portably without intervening in the internals of the two tools. This can be obtained by: (1) creating, in the source tool, pairs of models which are analogue-on the one hand-to the original model in the target tool, and-on the other hand-to the model in the target tool hypothetically enriched with some predictive ability only available in the source tool;(2) measuring, at each time step, the ratio between the performances predicted by the source tool as regards the two analogue models;(3) re-scaling, at each time-step, the performance predicted by the target tool on the basis of that ratio. When appropriate analogue models are utilized, this strategy enables distinct simulation tools to work like an integrated computing unit.

Influence of work zone signage on driver speeding behavior

Speeding in a work zone needs to be tackled effectively to enhance work zone safety. This study evaluates the influence of three different work zone signs—speed photo enforced signs, dynamic speed display signs and reduced speed limit signs—on driver speeding behavior using a medium-fidelity driving simulator. The speed photo enforced and reduced speed limit signs were placed at intervals before the start of the work zone and in the work zone. A virtual work zone network was built to replicate the Baltimore–Washington Parkway(MD-295). A total of 66 participants from different socioeconomic backgrounds participated in 264 driving simulation sessions. The speeds were measured over four phases: initial speed area, sign visible area, sign readable area and post sign area. An analysis of variance and post hoc analysis showed that the speed photo enforced sign was the most effective of the three signs. The second speed photo enforced sign within the work zone was more effective at reducing speed than the sign before the start of the work zone, especially in the post sign area. It was observed that female participants tend to slow down more when encountering a speed photo enforcement sign.

Traffic recovery time estimation under different flow regimes in traffic simulation

Incident occurrence and recovery are critical to the smooth and efficient operations of freeways. Although many studies have been performed on incident detection, clearance, and management, travelers and traffic managers are unable to accurately predict the length of time required for full traffic recovery after an incident occurs. This is because there are no practical studies available to estimate post-incident recovery time. This paper estimates post-incident traffic recovery time along an urban freeway using traffic simulation and compares the simulation results with shockwave theory calculations. The simulation model is calibrated and validated using a freeway segment in Baltimore, MD. The model explores different flow regimes （traffic intensity） and incident duration for different incident severity, and their effects on recovery time. A total of 726 simulations are completed using VISSIM software. Finally, the impact of congestion and incident delay on the highway network is quantified by a regression formula to predict traffic recovery time. The developed regression model predicts post-incident traffic recovery time based on traffic intensity, incident duration, and incident severity （ratio of lanes closure）. In addition, three regression models are developed for different flow regimes of near-capacity, moderate, and low-traffic intensity. The model is validated by collected field data on two different urban freeways.

The Role of Knowledge in Disaster Risk Reduction

Disaster risk reduction policy and practice require knowledge for informed decision making and coordinated action. Although the knowledge production and implementation processes are critical for disaster risk reduction, these issues are seldom systematically addressed in-depth in disaster studies and policy programs. While efforts and improvements have been made with regard to data and information, only limited resources are committed to improving knowledge management structures and integrating knowledge systems at different spatial levels. The recently adopted Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030 addresses knowledge-related issues and provides the opportunity to highlight the critical role of knowledge in disaster risk reduction. This article presents insights into potential conceptualizations of knowledge that would advance disaster research and policy. We use cases from France to illustrate challenges of and pathways to disaster risk reduction. We suggest to further strengthen efforts that improve our understanding of the connections between disaster risk, knowledge, and learning. A better integration of multiple scales, different societal actors,various knowledge sources, and diverse disciplines into disaster risk research will increase its relevance for decision-makers in policy and practice. Well-targeted incentives and political backing will improve the coherence,coordination, and sharing of knowledge among various actors and arenas.
