Correlation analyse between thyroid hormone levels and severity of schizophrenia symptoms

BACKGROUND The imbalance of hormone levels in the body is closely related to the occurrence and progression of schizophrenia,especially thyroid *** To study the relationship between triiodothyronine(T3),thyroxine(T4),free T3(FT3),free T4(FT4),thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH)and *** In this study,100 schizophrenia patients were selected from our hospital between April 2022 and April *** clinical data were analyzed *** on the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale(PANSS)score,patients were divided into mild(1-3 points,n=39),moderate(4 points,n=45),and severe groups(5-7 points,n=16).Additionally,55 healthy individuals served as a control *** blood samples were collected to measure T3,T4,FT3,FT4,TSH,and cortisol concentrations,analyzing their relationship with PANSS *** The serum levels of T3,FT3,FT4,TSH and cortisol in the schizophrenia group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).With the increase of the severity of the disease,the concentrations of T3 and T4 decreased,while the con-centrations of TSH and cortisol increased(P<0.05).The concentrations of TSH and cortisol were positively correlated with the PANSS score,while T3 and T4 were negatively correlated with the PANSS score(P<0.05).The receiver ope-rating characteristic curve results showed that T3,T4,TSH,and cortisol had good efficacy in the diagnosis of *** results showed that decreased T3 level,decreased T4 level,decreased TSH level and increased cortisol level may be independent risk factors for *** Thyroid hormone levels are associated with the severity of schizophrenia symptoms,which can provide new solutions for the diagnosis and treatment of schizophrenia.

Clinical Effects of Lianbai Liquid in Prevention and Treatment of Dermal Injury Caused by radiotherapy

Objective: To observe the effect of Lianbai liquid (连柏液) in prevention and treatment of acute radiation dermal injury. Method: From May 2000 to December 2005, 126 cancer patients were randomly divided into a prevention group of 75 cases given externally topical application of Lianbai liquid since the first radiotherapy, and a control group Ⅰ of 51 cases given only advice after radiotherapy; while the other 92 cancer patients who had already had grade Ⅲ acute radiation-induced dermal injury were randomly divided into a treatment group of 54 cases treated by externally topical use of Lianbai liquid, and a control group Ⅱ of 38 cases treated by topical use of norfloxacin. Clinical evaluation was carried out according to the CTC.V2.0 standard stipulated by NCI for classifying acute radiation dermal injury. Results: The incidence of skin reaction was 32.0% in the prevention group and 92.2% in the control group Ⅰ, with an obvious difference between the two groups (χ2=54.163, P<0.01). Mild radioactive reaction (grade Ⅰ and Ⅱ) was 28.0% (21/75) in the prevention group and 70.6% (36/51) in the control group Ⅰ, with a remarkable difference between the two groups (χ2=22.226, P<0.01). The effective rate for grade Ⅲ dermal injury was 92.6% (50/54) in the treatment group and 65.9% (25/38) in the control group Ⅱ, with a remarkable difference between the two groups (χ2=6.018, P=0.024). The wound-healing time was 11.07±2.21 days in the treatment group and 18.08±1.76 days in the control group Ⅱ, with a remarkable difference between the two groups (u=16.932, P<0.01). Conclusion: Lianbai liquid can effectively prevent the radiation dermatitis, and treat grade Ⅲ acute radiation dermal injury with obvious curative effect.

Clinicopathological study of cardiac tamponade due to pericardial metastasis originating from gastric cancer

AIM： To review the cases reported in the literature, examined their clinicopathological features, and evaluated the efficacy of different therapeutic modalities for this rare condition. METHODS： A search of the MEDLINE database revealed 16 cases of pericarditis carcinomatosa （PC） originating from GC reported in the literature between 1982 and 2005. Additional detailed data were obtained from the authors of these studies for subsequent clinicopathological investigation. We have also described about a case study from our own clinic. RESULTS： The mean age of cases with pericarditis carcinomatosa originating from GC was 54 years. Females were diagnosed at a younger age （46.3 years） compared to males （58 years）. The mean survival period afer diagnosis was 4.5 mo. No statistical differences in the length of survival time were found between different therapeutic modalities, such as drainage, and local and/or systemic chemotherapy after drainage. However, three cases who underwent systemic chemotherapy survived for more than 10 mo. Cases that developed metachronous cardiac tamponade for more than 2 years afer the diagnosis of GC generally survived for a longer period of time, although this was not statistically significant. Multivariate analysis revealed that low levels of carcinoembryonic antigen （CEA）, and CEA and/or cancer antigen 19-9 （CA 19-9） were associated with longer survival. CONCLUSION： Cases with low levels of CEA, and CEA and/or CA 19-9 should undergo systemic chemotherapy with or without local chemotherapy afer drainage.

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE INVASION OF PARAPHARYNGEAL SPACES AND THE INVOLVEMENT OF CERVICAL NODES AND POSTERIOR GROUP CRANIAL NERVES IN NASOPHARYNGEAL CARCINOMA

Two hundred cates of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) admitted to this department from Feb. 1985 to May. 1988 were analysed according to the CT scanning and clinical findings of the primary lesions prior to radiotherapy. The results showed that involvement of parapharyngeal space was very common in NPC, about 80% (160/200 cases) ; particularly unilateral or bilateral retro-styloid spaces, about 69.5% (139/200 cases). It was proposed that patients with NPC had a high Incidence of ipsilateral cervical node metastasis. Contralateral cervical node metastasis was rare. The development of cervical node metastasto in NPC has two modes: one Is direct Infiltration of the retro-stylold space by the lesion; the other Is along the nasopharyngeal lymphatic rete. The data also showed that patients with NPC who presented symptoms of Ⅸ- Ⅲ cranial nerve paralyses always had ipsilateral or bilateral retro- styloid space Infiltrations.

Recurrence risk model for esophageal cancer after radical surgery

Clinical analysis of intracranial germinoma's craniospinal irradiation using helical tomotherapy

Objective： To evaluate the short-term clinical outcomes of intracranial germinoma patients treated with craniospinal irradiation （CSI） using helical tomotherapy （HT） system in our center. Methods： Twenty-three patients who were treated with CSI in our center from January 2008 to July 2012 were collected, with an average age of 20. M1 of the patients＇ CSI used the HT system. The total doses were 27-36 Gy/15-20 F （1.5-2 Gy per fraction）, and total local doses were 46-60 Gy/30-50 F （5 fractions per week）. M1 female patients for CSI were treated with left-right parallel-opposed field irradiation to protect their ovarian functions. Median follow-up time was 30.9 months （range, 5-67 months）. The SPSS19.0 software was used, and the overall survival （OS） was calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Results： Among 17 patients with assessable tumors, 9 cases （52.9%） were CR, 7 cases （41.2%） were PR, and 1 case （5.9%） was SD. Hematological toxicity was the severest side-effect occurred in the procedure of CSI. The level 1-4 acute leukopenia were 8.7%, 30.4%, 34.8% and 21.7% and the level 1-4 acute thrombopenia were 8.7%, 30.4%, 21.7% and 8.7%, respectively. Conclusions： For primary intracranial germinomas, HT can be used to implement CSI for simplifying radiotherapy procedures, improving radiotherapy accuracy, enhancing protection of peripheral organs at risk （ORA） and guaranteeing therapeutic effects. With the acceptable acute and long-term toxicity, CSI using HT in intracranial germinoma patients can be a safe and alternative mode.

An analysis of the Long-term Therapeutic Effect of the Integrated Therapy of Traditional Chinese Medicine and radiotherapy on Abdominal Malignant tumor

To observe the long-term therapeutic effect of the integrated therapy of radiotherapy and Chinese herbal drugs for treatment of abdominal malignant tumor and explore the applied value of differential treatment during radiotherapy. Sixty cases of abdominal malignant tumor with hyperactivity of fire due to yin deficiency or deficiency of both qi and blood were randomly divided into an integrated treatment group of 30 cases and a control group of 30 cases. The integrated treatment group was treated by combination of radiotherapy and Chinese herbal drugs and the control group by simple radiotherapy. The results shows that in the integrated treatment group, the score of physical state was 23.17 ± 7.18, score of psychological quality 21.23 ± 4.53 and total score of living quality 44.40 ± 11.22, and survival rate for three years was 67.55%, which were significantly superior to those of the control group (P＜0.01). It is then concluded that differential treatment of TCM could play a valuable role in treating abdominal malignant tumor during radiotherapy, which can improve the long-term living quality and prolong the survival time of the patients.

Results of Treating Vertebral Metastases by Percutaneous Vertebroplasty Combined with Interventional Chemotherapy

OBJECTIVE Vertebral metastases are a common manifestation in patients with advanced cancer and treatment is often ineffective. This study was conducted to explore the efficacy of treating vertebral metastases by percutaneous vertebroplasty （PVP） combined with interventional chemotherapy. METHODS Seventy-five patients with vertebral metastases （42 men, 33 women; ages 31-76 years） were divided into 2 groups： 39 cases were treated by PVP combined with chemotherapy （VPCC group）, and 36 cases were treated by PVP alone （VP group）. All procedures were guided by computed tomography （CT） scanning. The results and complications were evaluated by a questionnaire regarding pain and routine follow-up. RESULTS The response rate was significantly higher in the VPCC group than in the VP group （93.0% vs 74.4%, P〈0.05）; total response rates for the VPCC and VP groups were 25.6% and 10.3% respectively. A common complication related to VPCC was transient aggravating pain. CONCLUSION PVP may ameliorate pain, and consolidate the vertebrae of patients with vertebral metastases. Its short-term effect may be enhanced by adding drugs into the bone cement.

Klatskin tumor treated by inter-disciplinary therapies including stereotactic radiotherapy: A case report

In view of the poor prognosis of patients with cholangiocarcinoma （CCC）, there is a need for new therapeutic strategies. Inter-disciplinary therapy seems to be most promising. radiotherapy is an effective alternative to surgery for hilar CCC （Klatskin tumors） if an adequate radiation dose can be delivered to the liver hilus. Here, we describe a patient for whom we used a stereotactic radiotherapy technique in the context of an inter-disdplinary treatment concept. We report a 45-year-old patient with a locally advanced Klatskin tumor. Explorative laparotomy showed that the tumor was not resectable. A metallic stent was implanted and the patient was treated by stereotactic radiotherapy using a body frame. A total dose of 48 Gy （3×4 Gy/wk） was administered. Therapy was well tolerated. After 32 too, local tumor recurrence and a chest wall metastasis developed and were controlled by radio-chemotherapy. After more than 56 mo with a good quality of life, the patient died of advanced neoplastic disease. Stereotactic radiotherapy led to a long-term survival of this patient with a locally advanced Klatskin tumor. In the context of inter-disciplinary treatment concepts, this radiotherapy technique is a promising choice of treatment for patients with hilar CCC.
