Nerve scarring after peripheral nerve injury can severely hamper nerve regeneration and functional ***,the anti-inflammatory cytokine,interleukin-10,can inhibit nerve scar *** a（SSa） is a monomer molecule extracted from the Chinese medicine,*** can exert anti-inflammatory effects in spinal cord injury and traumatic brain ***,it has not been shown whether SSa can play a role in peripheral nerve *** this study,rats were randomly assigned to three *** the sham group,the left sciatic nerve was directly sutured after *** the sciatic nerve injury（SNI）＋ SSa and SNI groups,the left sciatic nerve was sutured and continuously injected daily with SSa（10 mg/kg） or an equivalent volume of saline for 7 *** linked immunosorbent assay results demonstrated that at 7 days after injury,interleukin-10 level was considerably higher in the SNI ＋ SSa group than in the SNI *** staining and western blot assay demonstrated that at 8 weeks after injury,type I and III collagen content was lower and nerve scar formation was visibly less in the SNI ＋ SSa group compared with the SNI ***,sciatic functional index and nerve conduction velocity were improved in the SNI ＋ SSa group compared with the SNI *** results confirm that SSa can increase the expression of the anti-inflammatory factor,interleukin-10,and reduce nerve scar formation to promote functional recovery of injured sciatic nerve.

It is uncommon for tire explosion related injuries on the lower extremity. The bilateral lower extremities were injured by tire explosion when the patient was seated in a bus. She sustained an open fracture with partial bone loss in the right calcaneus （a comminuted fracture in the right ankle joint） and a closed comminuted fracture in the left tibia and fibula. This damage was caused by uncontacted tire explosion, thanks to a thick floor between the exploded tire and the patient＇s feet. This type of injury on lower extremity caused by uncontacted tire explosion was uncommon.

Bridging peripheral nerves using a deacetyl chitin conduit combined with short-term electrical stimulation

Previous studies have demonstrated that deacetyl chitin conduit nerve bridging or electrical stimulation can effectively promote the regeneration of the injured peripheral nerve. We hypoth-esized that the combination of these two approaches could result in enhanced regeneration. Rats with right sciatic nerve injury were subjected to deacetyl chitin conduit bridging combined with electrical stimulation （0.1 ms, 3 V, 20 Hz, for 1 hour）. At 6 and 12 weeks after treatment, nerve conduction velocity, myelinated axon number, ifber diameter, axon diameter and the thickness of the myelin sheath in the stimulation group were better than in the non-stimulation group. The results indicate that deacetyl chitin conduit bridging combined with temporary electrical stimu-lation can promote peripheral nerve repair.

Arthroscopy combined with unicondylar knee arthroplasty for treatment of isolated unicompartmental knee arthritis: A long-term comparison

BACKGROUND Knee osteoarthritis is the most prevalent form of osteoarthritis and is becoming the main reason for progressive pain in knee joints. Arthroscopy combined with unicondylar knee arthroplasty(UKA) is one of the effective methods for the treatment of severe unicompartmental knee arthritis. This surgical approach gives us the capacity to explore all the articular cavities and plays a vital role in UKA patient selection. However, some scholars think that the surgical procedure is traumatic and may increase the rate of surgical infection, and its clinical efficacy needs further *** To compare the clinical effect of arthroscopy combined with UKA and UKA alone for patients suffering from unicompartmental osteoarthritis(OA).METHODS A retrospective study was conducted on patients who were diagnosed with unicompartmental OA(Kellgren–Laurence grade ≥ III) and underwent UKA between October 2012 and November 2006. The patients were followed at 3, 6,and 12 mo and every 2 years thereafter. During each follow-up, the radiographic materials, the range of motion of knee and hospital for special surgery(HSS)score, knee society score and knee function score as recorded, and the modes and time of failure and revision details were collected as *** Data on 104 patients(118 knees), including 54 patients(60 knees) in the arthroscopy combined with UKA group(group A) and 51(58 knees) in UKA alone group(group B) were collected during an average follow-up duration of 7.25 years, excluding the cases who were lost to follow-up. At the final follow-up,3(5.0%) of 60 knees in group A compared with 4(6.9%) of 58 knees in group B failed and converted to total knee arthroplasty, with no statistically significant difference between the two groups(P = 0.933).
