Graphene-Based RFID Tag Antenna for Vehicular Smart Border Passings

Globalization has opened practically every country in the globe to tourism and commerce today.In every region,the volume of vehicles traveling through border crossings has increased significantly.Smartcards and radio frequency identification(RFID)have been proposed as a new method of identifying and authenticating passengers,products,and vehicles.However,the usage of smartcards and RFID tag cards for vehicular border crossings continues to suffer security and flexibility challenges.Providing a vehicle’s driver a smartcard or RFID tag card may result in theft,loss,counterfeit,imitation,or vehicle transmutation.RFID sticker tags would replace RFID tags as vehicle border passes to solve the mentioned problem.The RFID sticker tag adheres to the windscreen,side screen,dash,hood,or door of the vehicle,or any other acceptable location.Any damage or stripping from the installed location may cause data corruption and cannot be reused.Overall,these sticker tags will make the border crossingsmore secure and efficient.This article focuses on designing a rectangular-shaped RFID sticker tag antenna made of graphene sheets as a possible solution for smart border crossings.The proposed antenna is mathematically designed and analyzed with CST software to determine the optimum parameters.The design parameters are then used to create an antenna on a prepared graphene sheet.The performance results are carried out with CST software and a network analyzer.The designed RFID antenna stick on a car windscreen offers approximately 900 MHz bandwidth over the frequency range from 1.8 GHz to 2.7 GHz with an average gain of 1.23 dBi at the frequency to be used of 2.4 GHz microwave RFID band.The radiation is an omnidirectional pattern.The proposed graphene-sheet rectangular-shape monopole antenna is compact,low-cost,and bendable to fit into the windscreen of a car while retaining excellent wave propagation capabilities.These findings illustrate the suggested antenna’s potential as an RFID tag antenna in a vehicular smart border pass system.

Adaptive Three-phase Estimation of Sequence Components and Frequency Using H∞ Filter Based on Sparse Model

The estimation of sequence or symmetrical components and frequency in three-phase unbalanced power system is of great importance for protection and relay.This paper proposes a new H∞filter based on sparse model to track the sequence components and the frequency of three-phase unbalanced power systems.The inclusion of sparsity improves the error convergence behavior of estimation model and hence short-duration non-stationary PQ events can easily be tracked in the time domain.The proposed model is developed using l1 norm penalty in the cost function of H∞filter,which is quite suitable for estimation across all the three phases of an unbalanced system.This model uses real state space modeling across three phases to estimate amplitude and phase parameters of sequence components.However,frequency estimation uses complex state space modeling and Clarke transformation generates a complex measurement signal from the unbalanced three-phase voltages.The state vector used for frequency estimation consists of two state variables.The proposed sparse model is tested using distorted three-phase signals from IEEE-1159-PQE database and the data generated from experimental laboratory setup.The analysis of absolute and mean square error is presented to validate the performance of the proposed model.

Gait Recognition by Cross Wavelet Transform and Graph Model

In this paper, a multi-view gait based human recognition system using the fusion of two kinds of features is proposed.We use cross wavelet transform to extract dynamic feature and bipartite graph model to extract static feature which are coefficients of quadrature mirror filter(QMF)-graph wavelet filter bank. Feature fusion is done after normalization. For normalization of features, min-max rule is used and mean-variance method is used to find weights for normalized features. Euclidean distance between each feature vector and center of the cluster which is obtained by k-means clustering is used as similarity measure in Bayesian framework. Experiments performed on widely used CASIA B gait database show that, the fusion of these two feature sets preserve discriminant information. We report 99.90 % average recognition rate.

Developing Transparent IDS for VANETs Using LIME and SHAP:An Empirical Study

Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks(VANETs)are mobile ad-hoc networks that use vehicles as nodes to create a wireless network.Whereas VANETs offer many advantages over traditional transportation networks,ensuring security in VANETs remains a significant challenge due to the potential for malicious attacks.This study addresses the critical issue of security in VANETs by introducing an intelligent Intrusion Detection System(IDS)that merges Machine Learning(ML)–based attack detection with Explainable AI(XAI)explanations.This study ML pipeline involves utilizing correlation-based feature selection followed by a Random Forest(RF)classifier that achieves a classification accuracy of 100%for the binary classification task of identifying normal and malicious traffic.An innovative aspect of this study is the incorporation of XAI methodologies,specifically the Local Interpretable Model-agnostic Explanations(LIME)and SHapley Additive exPlanations(SHAP).In addition,this research also considered key features identified by mutual information-based feature selection for the task at hand.The major findings from this study reveal that the XAI-based intrusion detection methods offer distinct insights into feature importance.Key features identified by mutual information,LIME,and SHAP predominantly relate to Transmission Control Protocol(TCP),Hypertext Transfer Protocol(HTTP),Domain Name System(DNS),and Message Queuing Telemetry Transport(MQTT)protocols,highlighting their significance in distinguishing normal and malicious network activity.This XAI approach equips cybersecurity experts with a robust means of identifying and understanding VANET malicious activities,forming a foundation for more effective security countermeasures.

Application of source biasing technique for energy efficient DECODER circuit design: memory array application

Researchers have proposed many circuit techniques to reduce leakage power dissipation in memory cells. If we want to reduce the overall power in the memory system, we have to work on the input circuitry of memory architecture i.e. row and column decoder. In this research work, low leakage power with a high speed row and column decoder for memory array application is designed and four new techniques are proposed. In this work, the comparison of cluster DECODER, body bias DECODER, source bias DECODER, and source coupling DE- CODER are designed and analyzed for memory array application. Simulation is performed for the comparative analysis of different DECODER design parameters at 180 nm GPDK technology file using the CADENCE tool. Simulation results show that the proposed source bias DECODER circuit technique decreases the leakage current by 99.92% and static energy by 99.92% at a supply voltage of 1.2 V. The proposed circuit also improves dynamic power dissipation by 5.69%, dynamic PDP/EDP 65.03% and delay 57.25% at 1.2 V supply voltage.

Molecular dynamic simulation of the thermodynamic and kinetic properties of nucleotide base pair

A nucleotide base pair is the basic unit of RNA structures. Understanding the thermodynamic and kinetic properties of the closing and opening of a base pair is vital for quantitative understanding the biological functions of many RNA molecules. Due to the fast transition rate, it is difficult to directly observe opening and closing of single nucleic acid base pair in experiments. This review will provide a brief summary of the studies about the thermodynamic and kinetic properties of a base pair opening and closing by using molecular dynamic simulation methods.

Multiuser Detection for MIMO-OFDM system in Underwater Communication Using a Hybrid Bionic Binary Spotted Hyena Optimizer

Multi Access Interference (MAI) is the main source limiting the capacity and quality of the Multiple-Input Multiple-Output Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) system which fulfills the demand of high-speed transmission rate and high quality of service for future underwater acoustic (UWA) communication. Multi User Detection (MUD) is needed to overcome the performance degradation caused by MAI. In this research, both local and global optimal solutions are obtained in Bionic Binary Spotted Hyena Optimizer (BBSHO) algorithm using the Position Coordinate Vectors (PCVs) of the social behavior of spotted hyenas to achieve MUD. Further, Extremal Optimization (EO) is introduced in BBSHO algorithm to improve the local search ability within the search space. Hence, a hybrid BBSHO algorithm is proposed for achieving MUD at the receiver of the MIMO-OFDM system whose transceiver model in underwater is implemented using BELLHOP simulation system. By MATLAB simulation, it is shown that the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of the proposed hybrid algorithm outperforms with best optimal solution within the search space towards MUD for Interference to Noise Ratio (INR) at 10 dB, 20 dB, and 40 dB over conventional detectors and metaheuristic approaches such as Binary Spotted Hyena Optimizer (BSHO), Binary Particle Swarm Optimization (BPSO) in the UWA network.

In this paper,low profile frequency reconfigurable monopole antenna is designed on FR-4 substrate with a compact size of 30 mm^(3)×20 mm^(3)×1.6 mm^(3).The antenna is tuned to four different modes through three pin diode switches.In Mode 1(SW1 to SW3=OFF),antenna covers a wideband of 3.15–8.51 GHz.For Mode 2(SW1=ON,SW2 to SW3=OFF),the proposed antenna resonates at 3.5 GHz.The antenna shows dual band behavior and covers 2.6 and 6.4 GHz in Mode 3(SW1 and SW2=ON,SW3=OFF).The same antenna covers three different bands of 2.1,5 and 6.4 GHz when operating in Mode 4(SW1 to SW3=ON).The proposed antenna has good radiation efficiency ranges from 70%∼84%,providing adequate average gain of 2.05 dBi in mode 1,1.87 dBi in mode 2,1.4–1.75 dBi in mode 3 and 1.05–1.56 dBi in mode 4.The achieved impedance bandwidths at respective frequencies ranges from 240 to 5000 MHz.The Voltage Standing Waves Ratio(VSWR)of less than 1.5 is achieved for all operating bands.To validate the simulation results,the proposed antenna is fabricated and experimentally tested in antenna measurement laboratory.Due to its reasonably small size and support of multiple bands operation,the proposed antenna can be used in modern communication systems for supporting various applications such as fifth generation(5G)mobile and wireless local area networks(WLAN).

Image enhancement via MMSE estimation of Gaussian scale mixture with Maxwell density in AWGN

In optical techniques,noise signal is a classical problem in medical image processing.Recently,there has been considerable interest in using the wavelet transform with Bayesian estimation as a powerful tool for recovering image from noisy data.In wavelet domain,if Bayesian estimator is used for denoising problem,the solution requires a prior knowledge about the distribution of wavelet coeffcients.Indeed,wavelet coeffcients might be better modeled by super Gaussian density.The super Gaussian density can be generated by Gaussian scale mixture(GSM).So,we present new minimum mean square error(MMSE)estimator for spherically-contoured GSM with Maxwell distribution in additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN).We compare our proposed method to current state-of-the-art method applied on standard test image and we quantify achieved performance improvement.

The Impact of Delay in Software-Defined Integrated Terrestrial-Satellite Networks

Satellite communication networks have been evolving from standalone networks with ad-hoc infrastructures to possibly interconnected portions of a wider Future Internet architecture. Experts belonging to the fifth-generation(5 G) standardization committees are considering satellites as a technology to integrate in the 5 G environment. Software Defined Networking(SDN) is one of the paradigms of the next generation of mobile and fixed communications. It can be employed to perform different control functionalities, such as routing, because it allows traffic flow identification based on different parameters and traffic flow management in a centralized way. A centralized set of controllers makes the decisions and sends the corresponding forwarding rules for each traffic flow to the involved intermediate nodes that practically forward data up to the destination. The time to perform this process in integrated terrestrial-satellite networks could be not negligible due to satellite link delays. The aim of this paper is to introduce an SDN-based terrestrial satellite network architecture and to estimate the mean time to deliver the data of a new traffic flow from the source to the destination including the time required to transfer SDN control actions. The practical effect is to identify the maximum performance than can be expected.
