Topographic factors associated with anterior chamber angle narrowing in patients with keratoconus

AIM:To identify topographic determinants of the anterior chamber angle(ACA)in patients with keratoconus(KCN).METHODS:Four hundred and ten eyes of 294 patients with KCN were recruited for this ***,complete ocular examinations were performed for all patients,including visual acuity measurement,refraction,and slit-lamp ***,all participants underwent corneal imaging by the Oculus Pentacam ***:The mean age of the participants was 32.40±8.52y(15-60y)and 69.5%of them were *** mean ACA was 38.47°±5.75°(range:14.40°to 56.50°)in the whole sample,38.24°±6.00°in males,and 38.98°±5.11°in females(P=0.447).The mean ACA was significantly different among different groups of cone morphology,as patients with nipple cones showed the lowest mean ***,there were statistically significant differences in the mean ACA among different groups of cone locations,with patients having central cones exhibiting the lowest mean ACA(P<0.001).Anterior and posterior Q values were significantly,directly correlated with ACA(anterior Q:r=0.122,P=0.014,posterior Q:r=0.192,P<0.001).CONCLUSION:This study provides critical insights into the risk factors for ACA narrowing in KCN patients,which is essential for planning intraocular *** with nipple and central cones exhibited the most significant ACA ***,more negative Q-values are associated with increased ACA narrowing,highlighting the need for targeted diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

Objective:This study aimed to investigate the effect of empowerment-based interventions on selfefficacy and self-care capacity among adults with sickle cell disease(SCD).Methods:A randomized control trial was conducted[NCT06296654].A total of 76 patients were recruited by using a cluster sampling technique in the two health centers in Bahrain from February to May 2022 and randomly allocated to the intervention group(n=38)or control group(n=38).The intervention group received the empowerment-based intervention implemented through structured small-group discussion sessions,individualized consultations(5A model:assess,advise,agree,assist,and arrange),and follow-up sessions,while the control group received routine health *** Sickle Cell Self-Efficacy Scale(SCSES)and the Appraisal of the Self-Care Agency Scale-Revised(ASA-R)were measured at baseline and one month after the intervention among two groups of ***:A total of 68 patients completed the study(36 patients in the intervention group and 32 patients in the control group).After the intervention,the score of SCSES in the intervention group was 37.0(35.0,39.8)higher than the control group 28.0(25.2,32.0)(U=-6.121,P<0.001);the score of ASA-R in the intervention group was 61.0(58.3,65.0)higher than the control group 49.0(43.3,53.0)(U=-0.653,P<0.001).Conclusion:Adopting the empowerment-based intervention using the 5As model effectively improves self-efficacy and self-care capacity among patients with SCD.

Biomechanical study of the visual system by ocular response analyzer investigates the inter-structural biological relationships,mechanics,and function of the visual *** review aimed to investigate the changes in corneal biomechanical parameters with age and *** articles published in PubMed between 2000 and 2021 were investigated and critiqued,and valid scientific evidence was collected,reviewed and concluded according to the inclusion and exclusion *** studies showed that corneal biomechanical changes occur infrequently in children up to the age of 20y,and with increasing age and wider age range,there was a significant decrease in corneal biomechanical indices,especially corneal *** children and adults,most studies have shown that these biomechanical indicators,especially corneal resistance factor,were higher in *** hormonal changes may contribute to this finding,the role of axial length and other biometric indicators should not be *** axial length,the intraocular pressure,and the corneal thickness are other factors associated with biomechanical parameters that should be taken into account in clinical diagnosis and management especially for patients undergoing refractive surgery as well as keratoconus patients.

Objectives:This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to identify and synthesize the factors correlated with posttraumatic growth(PTG)in patients with colorectal cancer(CRC).Methods:PubMed,Web of Science,Embase,PsycINFO,CINAHL,Cochrane Library,China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),Wanfang database,China Science and Technology Journal Database(VIP)and SinoMed were searched for studies that reported data on the correlated factors associated with PTG in patients with CRC from inception to September 3,*** methodological quality of the included studies was assessed via the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality(AHRQ)methodology checklist and the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale(NOS).Pearson correlation coefficient(r)was utilized to indicate effect ***-analysis was conducted in R ***:Thirty-one eligible studies encompassing 6,400 participants were included in this *** factors were identified to be significantly associated with PTG in patients with CRC including demographic factors:residential area(r=0.13),marital status(r=0.10),employment status(r=0.18),education level(r=0.19),income level(r=0.16);disease-related factors:time since surgery(r=0.17),stoma-related complications(r=0.14),health-promoting behavior(r=0.46),and sexual function(r=0.17);psychosocial factors:confrontation coping(r=0.68),avoidance coping(r=-0.65),deliberate rumination(r=0.56),social support(r=0.47),family function(r=0.50),resilience(r=0.53),selfefficacy(r=0.91),self-compassion(r=-0.32),psychosocial adjustment(r=0.39),gratitude(r=0.45),stigma(r=-0.65),self-perceived burden(r=-0.31),fear of cancer recurrence(r=-0.45);and quality of life(r=0.32).Conclusions:This meta-analysis identified 23 factors associated with PTG in CRC *** workers can combine those relevant factors from the perspective of positive psychology,further explore the occurrence and development mechanism of PTG,and establish targeted interventions to promote PTG.

Concept Analysis of the Utilization of Artifacts in nursing Practice Instruction

This study aims to clarify the conceptual characteristics of artifact utilization in nursing practice instruction. Five selected articles were analyzed using the concept analysis method by Walker and Avant. The attributes, antecedents, and consequences of the concept were extracted from the target literature. The analysis revealed two attributes (“connecting people to people” and “connecting people to objects”);two antecedents (“recognition of artifacts” and “selection of artifacts”);and two consequences (“designing a fulfilling learning environment” and “improving the quality of education”). The concept was defined as “promoting the utilization of artifacts by recognizing and selecting them, connecting people to people and people to objects, designing a fulfilling learning environment, and improving the quality of education”.

Effect of nursing intervention on improving awareness of high-risk patients about stroke prevention

Objective: Stroke is perceived as a serious illness although it is preventable, and lifestyle alterations can be made to reduce its risk. Improvement of stroke care should be achieved through awareness of public, especially through high-risk group. Henceforth, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of nursing intervention on improving awareness of high-risk people about stroke prevention. Methods: A quasi-experimental design was used to carry out this study, where a purposive sample of 80 adult patients at high risk for stroke were enrolled while they were attending the out-patient clinics of Zagazig University Hospitals for follow-up treatment;they were divided into two groups: case (40 patients) and control (40 patients). An interview questionnaire was used to assess patients’ knowledge regarding warning signs, risk factors, and immediate treatment;attitude;and their practice for prevention for stroke at pretest and posttest. Results: The study revealed the poor level of knowledge, bad level of preventive behavior, and negative attitude regarding stroke prevention at pre-intervention. However, after intervention, the high-risk people had fair level of knowledge with moderate practice for stroke prevention and positive attitude, with statistically significant difference between pre-post intervention and between the case and control groups. Conclusions: The study revealed that the nursing intervention seemed to change the knowledge, practice, and attitude of subjects regarding stroke prevention. This, in turn, implies that awareness of prevention of stroke and high-risk factor control could be important to reduce the burden of stroke in Egypt. Thus, further research on a larger scale is required to improve population knowledge and behavior for stroke prevention and control.

Objectives: To determine the level of adversity quotient and its associations with rumination, optimism, and authoritative parenting style in junior high school students. Adversity quotient is the adaptation ability to overcome problems and obstacles with a positive attitude. Early adolescence, as a critical stage of life, needs to cultivate adversity quotient. However, adversity quotient and its influencing factors in adolescents have not been fully understood. Methods: A total of 129 students from 3 junior high schools (grade 7-9) in Chon Buri province, Thailand, were randomly recruited to participate in this correlational research study. They completed 5 questionnaires including the demographic form, adversity quotient assessment, authoritative parenting style, optimism, and rumination. Descriptive statistics and Pearson’s correlation coefficient were used for data analysis. Results: Adversity quotient was at a moderate level with a mean of 138.78 (standard deviation [SD] = 21.25). Adversity quotient was significantly, positively correlated with authoritative parenting at the highest level (r = 0.60), followed by optimism at a moderate level (r = 0.38), and rumination at a low level (r = 0.25, P < 0.01). Conclusions: All parties responsible for early adolescents’ development should enhance the adversity quotient to a higher level through campaigns promoting authoritative parenting and optimism. An unexpected positive correlation between adversity quotient and rumination warrants cautious interpretation and more studies.

Objectives:This study examined the levels of shared leadership and missed nursing care and their relationship among nurses in ***:A cross-sectional survey was *** February to April 2024,340 nurses worked in all inpatient care units at Alexandria Main University *** Shared Leadership and Missed nursing Care Survey was used for ***:The overall score of shared leadership was(72.62±4.30),which imitates a high perception of shared leadership among nurses;the dimension of delegation achieved the highest average mean score(3.66±0.26),followed by collaboration(3.64±0.31),the vision dimension scored the lowest mean score(3.59±0.33).The elements of missed nursing care had a total score of(46.72±5.69),and the dimension of secondary care achieved the highest average mean score(3.74±0.31).The reasons for missed nursing care had a total mean score of(22.40±1.59),and the dimension of labor resources achieved the highest average mean score(3.20±0.22).Male nurses,less than 30 years old,married,held a bachelor’s degree in nursing sciences,less than five years of experience in the nursing profession,and less than five years of experience in the current working unit had higher total scores of the shared leadership and lower total scores of missed nursing care(Pnursing care[r=-0.383],the reasons for missing nursing care[r=-0.047])(Pnursing leaders to stand in an environment that reduces the incidence of missed nursing care by encouraging teamwork,responsibility,workload management,and empowerment among nurses.

Roles of serum uric acid on the association between arsenic exposure and incident metabolic syndrome in an older Chinese population

Growing evidences showed that heavy metals exposure may be associated with metabolic ***,themechanism underlying arsenic(As)exposure and metabolic syndrome(MetS)risk has not been fully *** we aimed to prospectively investigate the role of serum uric acid(SUA)on the association between blood As exposure and incident MetS.A sample of 1045 older participants in a community in China was *** determined As at baseline and SUA concentration at follow-up in the Yiwu Elderly *** events were defined according to the criteria of the International Diabetes Federation(IDF).Generalized linear model with log-binominal regression model was applied to estimate the association of As with incident *** investigate the role of SUA in the association between As andMetS,amediation analysiswas *** the fully adjusted log-binominal model,per interquartile range increment of As,the risk of MetS increased *** with the lowest quartile of As,the adjusted relative risk(RR)of MetS in the highest quartile was 1.42(95%confidence interval,CI:1.03,2.00).Additionally,blood As was positively associated with SUA,while SUA had significant association with MetS *** mediation analysis demonstrated that the association of As and MetS risk was mediated by SUA,with the proportion of 15.7%.Our study found higher As was remarkably associated with the elevated risk of MetS in the Chinese older adults *** analysis indicated that SUA might be a mediator in the association between As exposure and MetS.
