Superconducting phase transitions in two dimensions lie beyond the description of the Ginzburg-Landau symmetry-breaking paradigm for three-dimensional *** are Berezinskii-KosterlitzThouless（BKT） transitions of paired-electron condensate driven by the unbinding of topological excitations,*** recently discovered monolayers of layered high-transition-temperature（TC）cuprate superconductor Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ（Bi2212） meant that this 2D superconductor promised to be ideal for the study of unconventional *** inhomogeneity posed challenges for distinguishing BKT physics from charge correlations in this ***,we utilize the phase sensitivity of scanning superconducting quantum interference device microscopy susceptometry to image the local magnetic response of underdoped Bi2212 from the monolayer to the bulk throughout its phase *** monolayer segregates into domains with independent phases at elevated temperatures below *** a single domain,we find that the susceptibility oscillates with flux between diamagnetism and paramagnetism in a Fraunhofer-like pattern up to *** finite modulation period,as well as the broadening of the peaks when approaching Tc from below,suggests well-defined vortices that are increasingly screened by the dissociation of vortex-antivortex plasma through a BKT *** the multilayers,the susceptibility oscillation differs in a small temperature regime below TC,consistent with a dimensional crossover led by interlayer *** as strong evidence for BKT transition in the bulk,we observe a sharp jump in phase stiffness and paramagnetism at small fields just below *** results unify the superconducting phase transitions from the monolayer to the bulk underdoped Bi2212,and can be collectively referred to as the BKT transition with interlayer coupling.

High intraocular pressure(IOP) is one of the high-risk pathogenic factors of glaucoma. Existing methods of IOP measurement are based on the direct interaction with the cornea. Commercial ophthalmic tonometers based on snapshot measurements are expensive, bulky, and their operation requires trained *** contact lenses are easy to use, but they may block vision and cause infection. Here, we report a sensory system for IOP assessment that uses a soft indentor with two asymmetrically deployed iontronic flexible pressure sensors to interact with the eyelid-eyeball in an eye-closed situation. Inspired by human fingertip assessment of softness, the sensory system extracts displacement-pressure information for soft evaluation, achieving high accuracy IOP monitoring(>96%). We further design and custom-make a portable and wearable ophthalmic tonometer based on the sensory system and demonstrate its high efficacy in IOP screening. This sensory system paves a way towards cost-effective, robust, and reliable IOP monitoring.

A spatial template is important to study nearby supernova remnants(SNRs).For SNR G332.5-5.6,we report a Gaussian disk with a radius of about 1°.06 to be a potential good spatial model in the γ-ray *** this new Gaussian disk,its GeV lightcurve shows a significant variability of about seven *** γ-ray observations of this SNR could be explained well either by a leptonic model or a hadronic model,in which a flat spectrum for the ejected electrons/protons is required.

The multi-layer cylindrical helicoidal fiber structure(MCHFS)exists widely in biological materials such as bone and wood at the *** typically function as reinforcing elements to enhance the toughness of *** this study,we establish a shear lag-based pullout model of the cylindrical helicoidal fiber(CHF)for investigating interlayer stress transfer and debonding behaviors,with implications regarding the underlying toughening mechanism of *** on the shear lag assumptions,analytical solutions for the stress and displacement fields of the MCHFS during the pullout are derived by considering the CHF as a cylindrically monoclinic material and verified through the 3D finite element *** is found that the helical winding of CHF results in both axial and hoop interlayer shear *** the helical winding angle and the elastic moduli of the fiber and matrix have significant influences on interlayer stress *** work reveals a new interlayer stress transfer mechanism in the MCHFS existing widely in biological materials.

Electric double-layer capacitors(EDLCs)with fast frequency response are regarded as small-scale alternatives to the commercial bulky aluminum electrolytic *** carbon-based nanoarray electrodes with precise alignment and smooth ion channels is crucial for enhancing EDLCs’***,controlling the density of macropore-dominated nanoarray electrodes poses challenges in boosting the capacitance of line-filtering ***,a simple technique to finely adjust the vertical-pore diameter and inter-spacing in three-dimensional nanoporous anodic aluminum oxide(3D-AAO)template is achieved,and 3D compactly arranged carbon tube(3D-CACT)nanoarrays are created as electrodes for symmetrical EDLCs using nanoporous 3D-AAO template-assisted chemical vapor deposition of *** 3D-CACT electrodes demonstrate a high surface area of 253.0 m^(2) g^(−1),a D/G band intensity ratio of 0.94,and a C/O atomic ratio of *** a result,the high-density 3D-CT nanoarray-based sandwich-type EDLCs demonstrate a record high specific areal capacitance of 3.23 mF cm^(-2) at 120 Hz and exceptional fast frequency response due to the vertically aligned and highly ordered nanoarray of closely packed CT *** 3D-CT nanoarray electrode-based EDLCs could serve as line filters in integrated circuits,aiding power system miniaturization.

Solid solutions are ubiquitous in metals and alloys. Local chemical ordering(LCO) is a fundamental sub-nano/nanoscale process that occurs in many solid solutions and can be used as a microstructure to optimize strength and ductility. However, the formation of LCO has not been fully elucidated, let alone how to provide efficient routes for designing LCO to achieve synergistic effects on both superb strength and ductility. Herein, we propose the formation and control of LCO in negative enthalpy alloys. With engineering negative enthalpy in solid solutions, genetic LCO components are formed in negative enthalpy refractory high-entropy alloys(RHEAs). In contrast to conventional ‘trial-and-error' approaches, the control of LCO by using engineering negative enthalpy in RHEAs is instructive and results in superior strength(1160 MPa) and uniform ductility(24.5%) under tension at ambient temperature, which are among the best reported so far. LCO can promote dislocation cross-slip, enhancing the interaction between dislocations and their accumulation at large tensile strains; sustainable strain hardening can thereby be attained to ensure high ductility of the alloy. This work paves the way for new research fields on negative enthalpy solid solutions and alloys for the synergy of strength and ductility as well as new functions.

It is generally considered that heat treatments have a negative impact on the mechanical properties of nacre due to thermal decomposition of the organic ***,the present work investigated the microindentation behavior on fresh and heat-treated nacres from two orthogonal directions,and the results demonstrate that both hardness value and damage tolerance can remain almost unchanged on the cross-section with the organic matrix degeneration,despite a significant deterioration on the platelet *** analyses suggest that the anisotropic response of indentation behavior to heat treatment in nacre is primarily caused by its structural ***,compared with a single layer of irregular interplatelet interfaces in cross-sectional specimens,the multiple layers of parallel interlamellar interfaces in in-plane specimens exhibit a much greater ability to impede indenter-triggered destruction,and heat treatments would reduce the in-plane hardness but nearly have no effect on the cross-sectional ***,the deeper embedding of platelets in cross-sectional specimens enhances their resistance to interface cracking caused by organic matrix degradation at high temperatures,leading to a reduced sensitivity to ***,the indentation behavior of nacre shows different tendencies in response to variations in the organic matrix state along normal and parallel directions.

Due to their uncontrollable assembly and crystallization process,the synthesis of mesoporous metal oxide single crystals remains a formidable ***,we report the synthesis of single-crystal-like mesoporous Li2TiSiO5by using soft micelles as *** key lies in the atomic-scale self-assembly and step-crystallization processes,which ensure the formation of single-crystal-like mesoporous Li2TiSiO5microparticles via an oriented attachment growth mechanism under the confinement of an in-situ formed carbon *** mesoporous Li2TiSiO5anode achieves a superior rate capability(148 mAh g-1at5.0 A g-1) and outstanding long-term cycling stability(138 mAh g-1after 3000 cycles at 2.0 A g-1) for lithium storage as a result of the ultrafast Li+diffusion caused by penetrating mesochannels and nanosized crystal frameworks（5-10 nm）.In comparison,bulk Li2TiSiO5exhibits poor rate capability and cycle performance due to micron-scale diffusion *** method is very simple and reproducible,heralding a new way of designing and synthesizing mesoporous single crystals with controllable frameworks and chemical functionalities.

A negative Poisson's ratio(NPR)structure represents optimal impact-resistance with applications in various fields,including the crash box in vehicles,which absorbs impact kinetic *** crash box is designed to deform in response to impact,increasing local structural density,which enhances impact resistance *** studies have only focused on the NPR effect in the plane dimension at low-speed *** studies have considered high-speed impact loads on three-dimensional NPR *** have developed two types of AlSi10Mg alloy energy-absorbing structures with NPR using three-dimensional printing technology,and have compared our systems with a conventional hexagonal mesh *** testing involved split-Hopkinson pressure bar measurements,which showed good agreement with dynamic numerical *** subjected to an impact load,the NPR structure exhibited better impact resistance and energy absorption compared with the positive Poisson's ratio *** proposed dual-layer hexagonal structure ensures an NPR effect while exhibiting higher strength and improved stability relative to the conventional concave hexagon structure.
