The effect of acupuncture cooperated with low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation （rTMS） on chronic insomnia was explored. Seventy-eight patients with chronic insomnia were randomly allocated into two groups： treatment group and control group. In the treatment group, the patients received acupuncture combined with rTMS treatment, and those in the control group were given acupuncture cooperated with sham rTMS treatment, 3 days per week for 4 weeks. Before and after treatment, the primary outcomes including the scores on Insomnia Severity Index （ISI） and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index （PSQI） and the secondary outcomes including total sleep time （TST）, sleep onset latency （SOL）, wake after sleep onset （WASO）, sleep efficiency （SE%） recorded by sleeping diary and actigraphy were observed in both groups. Seventy-five participants finished the study （38 in treatment group and 37 in control group respectively）. After treatment, the scores in the two groups were improved significantly, more significantly in the treatment group than in the control group. It can be inferred that acupuncture cooperated with rTMS can effectively improve sleep quality, enhance the quality of life of patients and has less side effects.

OBJECTIVE： To investigate the effects of myelotomy on locomotor recovery in rats subjected to spinal cord injury. DATA SOURCES： Electronic databases including Pub Med, Science Citation Index, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Journals Full-text Database, China Biology Medicine disc, and Wanfang Database were searched to retrieve related studies published before September 2017. The Me SH terms（the Medical Subject Headings） such as ＂myelotomy＂, ＂spinal cord injuries＂, ＂rats＂, ＂randomized controlled trial＂ and all related entry terms were searched. DATA SELECTION： Randomized controlled trials using myelotomy for the treatment of acute spinal cord injury in rats were included. Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan scores were adopted as the evaluation method. Rev Man Software（version 5.3） was used for data processing. The χ^2 and I^2 tests were used to assess heterogeneity. Using a random-effects model, a subgroup analysis was conducted to analyze the source of the heterogeneity. OUTCOME MEASURES： Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan scores were observed 1–6 weeks after spinal cord ***： Six animal trials were included, using a total of 143 lab rats. The included trials were divided into two subgroups by injury degrees（moderate or severe）. The pooled results showed that, 1–6 weeks after spinal cord injury, the overall Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan score was significantly higher in the myelotomy group than in the contusion group（weighted mean difference（WMD） = 0.60; 95% confidence interval（CI）： 0.23–0.97; P = 0.001; WMD = 2.10; 95% CI： 1.56–2.64; P 〈 0.001; WMD = 2.65; 95% CI： 1.73–3.57; P 〈 0.001; WMD = 1.66; 95% CI： 0.80–2.52; P 〈 0.001; WMD = 2.09; 95% CI： 0.92–3.26, P 〈 0.001; WMD = 2.25; 95% CI： 1.06–3.44, P 〈 0.001）. Ferroptosis is a recently discovered form of iron-dependent cell death,which occurs during the pathological process of various central nervous system diseases or injuries,including secondary spinal cord *** has been shown to promote neurological function recovery after cerebral hemorrhage by inhibiting ***,whether selenium can promote neurological function recovery after spinal cord injury as well as the underlying mechanism remain poorly *** this study,we injected sodium selenite(3μL,2.5μM)into the injury site of a rat model of T10 vertebral contusion injury 10 minutes after spinal cord injury *** found that sodium selenite treatment greatly decreased iron concentration and levels of the lipid peroxidation products malondialdehyde and ***,sodium selenite increased the protein and mRNA expression of specificity protein 1 and glutathione peroxidase 4,promoted the survival of neurons and oligodendrocytes,inhibited the proliferation of astrocytes,and promoted the recovery of locomotive function of rats with spinal cord *** findings suggest that sodium selenite can improve the locomotive function of rats with spinal cord injury possibly through the inhibition of ferroptosis via the specificity protein 1/glutathione peroxidase 4 pathway.

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation, as a relatively new type of rehabilitation treatment, is a painless and non-invasive method for altering brain excitability. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation has been widely used in the neurorehabilitation of stroke patients. Here, we used CiteSpace software to visually analyze 315 studies concerning repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation for stroke rehabilitation from 1999 to 2019, indexed by Web of Science, to clarify the research hotspots in different periods and characterize the gradual process of discovery in this field. We found that four main points were generally accepted:(1) repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation has a positive effect on motor function recovery in patients with subcortical stroke;(2) it may be more advantageous for stroke patients to receive low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation in the unaffected hemispheres than to receive high-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation in affected hemisphere;(3) low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation has become a potential therapeutic tool for patients with non-fluent aphasia after chronic stroke for neurological rehabilitation and language recovery;and(4) there are some limitations to these classic clinical studies, such as small sample size and low test efficiency. Our assessment indicates that prospective, multi-center, large-sample, randomized controlled clinical trials are still needed to further verify the effectiveness of various repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation programs for the rehabilitation of stroke patients.

The present study aimed to explore the potential of the sodium hyaluronate-CNTF (ciliary neurotrophic factor) scaffold in activating endogenous neurogenesis and facilitating neural network re-formation after the adult rat spinal cord injury (SCI). After completely cutting and removing a 5-mm adult rat T8 segment, a sodium hyaluronate-CNTF scaffold was implanted into the lesion area. Dil tracing and immunofluorescence staining were used to observe the proliferation, differentiation and integration of neural stem cells (NSCs) after SCI. A planar multielectrode dish system (MED64) was used to test the electrophysiological characteristics of the regenerated neural network in the lesioned area. Electrophysiology and behavior evaluation were used to evaluate functional recovery of paraplegic rat hindlimbs. The Dil tracing and immunofluorescence results suggest that the sodium hyaluronate-CNTF scaffold could activate the NSCs originating from the spinal cord ependymal, and facilitate their migration to the lesion area and differentiation into mature neurons, which were capable of forming synaptic contact and receiving glutamatergic excitatory synaptic input. The MED64 results suggest that functional synapsis could be established among regenerated neurons as well as between regenerated neurons and the host tissue, which has been evidenced to be glutamatergic excitatory synapsis. The electrophysiology and behavior evaluation results indicate that the paraplegic rats’ sensory and motor functions were recovered in some degree. Collectively, this study may shed light on paraplegia treatment in clinics.
