Early childhood caries(ECC)is a significant chronic disease of childhood and a rising public health burden *** may cause a higher risk of new caries lesions in both primary and permanent dentition,affecting lifelong oral *** occurrence of ECC has been closely related to the core microbiome change in the oral cavity,which may be influenced by diet habits,oral health management,fluoride use,and dental ***,it is essential to improve parental oral health and awareness of health care,to establish a dental home at the early stage of childhood,and make an individualized caries management *** interventions according to the minimally invasive concept should be carried out to treat dental *** expert consensus mainly discusses the etiology of ECC,caries-risk assessment of children,prevention and treatment plan of ECC,aiming to achieve lifelong oral health.

BACKGROUND Complicated crown-root fracture is considered a severe dental trauma and is unlikely to heal without ***,dentists have to remove the loose coronal fragment of the fractured tooth and treat the remaining part with multidisciplinary ***,we observed spontaneous healing of fracture in two pediatric cases with a history of complicated crown-root fractures over 4 years *** SUMMARY In case 1,a 12-year-old boy complained of pain at tooth 11 following an accidental fall 1 d *** examination showed a crack line on the crown of tooth *** beam computed tomography(CBCT)images of tooth 11 showed signs of hard tissue deposition between the fractured *** patient recalled that tooth 11 had struck the floor 1 year ago without seeking any other *** case 2,a 10-year-old girl fell down 1 d ago and wanted to have her teeth *** examination showed a fracture line on the crown of tooth *** images of tooth 21 also showed signs of hard tissue deposition between the fractured *** also had a history of dental trauma 1 year ago and her tooth 11 received dental treatment by another *** to her periapical radiograph at that time,tooth 21 was fractured 1 year ago and the fracture was overlooked by her *** of these two cases showed spontaneous healing of complicated crown-root *** over 4 years of follow-up,both fractured teeth showed no signs of *** These findings may provide new insights and perspectives on the management and treatment of crown-root fractures in children.

After teeth are replanted,there are two possible healing responses：periodontal ligament healing or ankylosis with subsequent replacement *** purpose of this study was to compare the fatigue resistance of vertically fractured teeth after bonding the fragments under conditions simulating both healing ***-two human premolars were vertically fractured and the fragments were bonded together with Super-Bond C＆*** were then randomly distributed into four groups（BP,CP,CA,BA）.The BP and CP groups were used to investigate the periodontal ligament healing mode whilst the BA and CA groups simulated *** teeth had root canal treatment *** crowns were constructed for the CP and CA *** BP and BA groups only had composite resin restorations in the access *** specimens were subjected to a 260 N load at 4 Hz until failure of the bond or until 2 x 106 cycles had been reached if no fracture *** were detected by stereomicroscope imaging and also assessed via dye penetration ***,interfaces of the resin luting agent were examined by scanning electron *** results confirmed that the fatigue resistance was higher in the groups with simulated periodontal ligament *** reattachment showed important biomechanical role in bonded and replanted vertically fractured teeth.

During smile evaluation and anterior esthetic construction,the anatomic and racial variations should be considered in order to achieve better matching *** aims of this study were to validate an objective method for recording spontaneous smile process and to categorize the smile and upper lip curvature of Chinese Han-nationality *** hundred and eighty-eight Chinese Han-nationality youths(88 males and 100 females) ranged from 20 to 35 years of age were *** smiles were elicited by watching comical movies and the dynamics of the spontaneous smile were captured continuously with a digital video *** subjects’ smiles were categorized into three types:commissure,cuspid and gummy smile based on video editing software and final ***’ upper lip curvatures were also measured and divided into three groups:upward,straight and *** analysis was conducted to obtain intra-rater reliabilities on twice *** Pearson Chi-square test was used to compare differences for each parameters(α=0.05).In smile classification,60.6%commissure smile,33.5%cuspid smile and 5.9%gummy smile were *** upper lip measurement,26.1%upward,39.9%straight and 34.0%downward upper lip curvature were *** commissure smile group showed statistically significant higher percentage of straight(46.5%) and upward(40.4%) in upper lip curvatures(P<0.05),while cuspid smile group(65.1%) and gummy smile group(72.7%) showed statistically significant higher frequency in downward upper lip curvature(P<0.05).It is evident that differences in upper lip curvature and smile classification exist based on race,when comparing Chinese subjects with those of Caucasian descent,and gender.

The aim of this study was to compare the efficiency of four final irrigation protocols in smear layer removal and bacterial inhibition in root canal *** roots inoculated with Enterococcus faecalis were prepared with ProTaper Universal *** teeth were disinfected by conventional needle irrigation,sonic agitation using the EndoActivator device,passive ultrasonic irrigation,or an M3 Max *** with no root canal preparation served as blank controls for the establishment of the infection *** with preparation but no final irrigation served as a post-instrumentation *** the final irrigation,the teeth were sectioned in *** half of each tooth was examined by scanning electron microscopy(SEM)to assess smear layer removal using a five-point *** other half was examined by confocal laser scanning microscopy(CLSM)using the LIVE/DEAD BackLight bacterial viability kit to evaluate the depth of bacterial survival in dentinal *** analysis revealed no significant difference in smear layer removal throughout the whole canal among the EA,PUI,and M3 Max groups(P>0.05).CLSM revealed that PUI achieved the greatest bacterial inhibition depth in the coronal((174.27±31.63)μm),middle((160.94±37.77)μm),and apical((119.53±28.49)μm)thirds of the canal(all P<0.05 *** groups).According to this comprehensive SEM and CLSM evaluation,PUI appears to have the best infection control ability in root canal systems.

Postmenopausal osteoporosis （PMO） is a prevalent metabolic bone disease characterized by bone loss and structural destruction, which increases the risk of fracture in postmenopausal women. Owing to the high morbidity and serious complications of PMO, many efforts have been devoted to its prophylaxis and treatment. The intestinal microbiota is the complex community of microorganisms colonizing the gastrointestinal tract. Probiotics, which are dietary or medical supplements consisting of beneficial intestinal bacteria, work in concert with endogenous intestinal microorganisms to maintain host health. Recent studies have revealed that bone loss in PMO is closely related to host immunity, which is influenced by the intestinal microbiota. The curative effects of probiotics on metabolic bone diseases have also been demonstrated. The effects of the intestinal microbiota on bone metabolism suggest a promising target for PMO management. This review seeks to summarize the critical effects of the intestinal microbiota and probiotics on PMO, with a focus on the molecular mechanisms underlying the pathogenic relationship between bacteria and host, and to define the possible treatment options.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of strontium-substituted hydroxyapatite (Sr-HA) on bone osseointegration of the implants using fluorescence microscopy. We allocated 20 implants to two groups: Sr-HA group and HA group. Electrochemically deposited HA and Sr-HA coatings were applied onto the implants separately. All the implants were inserted into femur bone of rabbits. Oxytetracycline hydrochloride, alizarin-complexon, and calcein green were respectively administered 7, 28, and 46 d after the implantation. After eight weeks, femurs were retrieved and prepared for the fluorescence microscopy observation. We analyzed the bone mineral apposition rates (MARs), bone area ratios (BARs), and bone to implant contact (BIC) of the two groups. Fluorescence microscopic observation showed that all groups exhibited extensive early peri-implant bone formation. The MAR of the Sr-HA group was greater than that for pure HA from 7 to 28 d after implantation, but no significant difference was found at later stage. And the BIC showed difference at 7 and 28 d compared with pure HA. We concluded that Sr-HA coating can improve the bone osseointegration of the implant in the early stage compared with the HA coating.

Bacteremia induced by periodontal infection is an important factor for periodontitis to threaten general health. P. gingivalis DNA/virulence factors have been found in the brain tissues from patients with Alzheimer’s disease(AD). The blood-brain barrier(BBB) is essential for keeping toxic substances from entering brain tissues. However, the effect of P. gingivalis bacteremia on BBB permeability and its underlying mechanism remains unclear. In the present study, rats were injected by tail vein with P. gingivalis three times a week for eight weeks to induce bacteremia. An in vitro BBB model infected with P. gingivalis was also established. We found that the infiltration of Evans blue dye and Albumin protein deposition in the rat brain tissues were increased in the rat brain tissues with P. gingivalis bacteremia and P. gingivalis could pass through the in vitro BBB model. Caveolae were detected after P. gingivalis infection in BMECs both in vivo and in vitro. Caveolin-1(Cav-1) expression was enhanced after P. gingivalis *** of Cav-1 rescued P. gingivalis-enhanced BMECs permeability. We further found P. gingivalis-gingipain could be colocalized with Cav-1 and the strong hydrogen bonding between Cav-1 and arg-specific-gingipain(RgpA) were ***, P. gingivalis significantly inhibited the major facilitator superfamily domain containing 2a(Mfsd2a) expression. Mfsd2a overexpression reversed P. gingivalis-increased BMECs permeability and Cav-1 expression. These results revealed that Mfsd2a/Cav-1 mediated transcytosis is a key pathway governing BBB BMECs permeability induced by P. gingivalis, which may contribute to P. gingivalis/virulence factors entrance and the subsequent neurological impairments.
