Colorful facial markings are associated with foraging rates and affiliative relationships in a wild group-living cichlid fish

Many animals use color to signal their quality and/or behavioral *** signals have been well studied in the contexts of competi-tion and mate choice;however,the role of these signals in nonsexual,affiliative relationships is not as well ***,we used wild social groups of the cichlid fish Neolamprologus pulcher to investigate whether the size of a brightly colored facial patch was related to 1)individual quality,2)social dominance,and/or 3)affiliative *** with larger patches spent more time foraging and tended to perform more aggressive acts against conspecific territory *** did not find any evidence that the size of these yellow patches was related to social rank or body size,but dominant males tended to have larger patches than dominant ***,patch size had a rank-specific relationship with the number of affiliative interactions that individuals engaged *** males with large patches received fewer affiliative acts from their groupmates compared to dominant males with small ***,subordinates with large patches tended to receive more affiliative acts from their groupmates while performing fewer affiliative acts *** together,our results suggest that patch size reflects interindividual variation in foraging effort in this cichlid fish and offer some of the first evidence that colorful signals may shape affiliative relationships withinwildsocialgroups.

Species of the ciliate class Heterotrichea Stein,1859 are a cosmopolitan group of unicellular eukaryotic microorganisms,many of which have been widely used as models in various fields of research such as regenerative biology,functional ecol-ogy,environmental toxicology,and symbiotic ***,species identification in the heterotrich family Condylos-tomatidae,especially the most species-rich and type genus Condylostoma Bory de Saint-Vincent,1824,remains challenging due to incomplete original descriptions,few reliable distinguishing characters,and overlapping features between different *** study presents an updated revision of Condylostoma and its related genus Condylostomides da Silva Neto,1994 based on descriptions of five species,including nine populations collected from China,using both morphological and molecular *** main findings are as follows:(1)43 nominal species and about 130 populations are reviewed,result-ing in the recognition of 30 valid species of Condylostoma and eight valid species of Condylostomides;(2)keys,synonyms,biogeographic distributions and amended/improved diagnoses of all valid species are provided;(3)based on the available data,four new Condylostoma species(*** ***.,*** ***.,*** ***.,and *** ***.),one new combination(Condylostomides minimus(Dragesco,1954)***.&***.),and two corrected names(Condylostoma ancestrale Villeneuve-Brachon,1940 *** Condylostomides nigrus(Dragesco,1960)***.)are suggested;(4)cryptic species are detected and proposed for the first time to form the Condylostoma curvum spe-cies complex;(5)three highly confusing Condylostoma species,***,***,and ***,are redefined for the first time based on modern taxonomic methods;(6)a‘flagship’species,Condylostomides coeruleus,is recorded for the first time from the continent of Asia,substantially expanding its biogeography;(7)ciliature adjacent to the distal end of the paroral mem

The shapes and rotation states(periods and pole orientations)of main-belt asteroids are important for understanding their formation and *** order to obtain sufficient photometric data covering different apparitions for asteroid(81)Terpsichore,ground-based photometric observations in 2020 and 2021 were carried *** combining published and newly obtained photometric data,we calculated the shape and spin parameters for(81)Terpsichore using the convex inversion *** this method,we have derived a best fitted pole orientation—(22.2±_(3.1)^(3.3°),17.5±_(5.5)^(10.8°))with a spin period of 10.94±_(0.01)^(0.01)*** on the derived convex shape of(81)Terpsichore,we have fitted the H,G+1,G_(2)phase function using the calibrated TESS data and Gaia data after accounting for the lightcurve amplitude *** a result,we have derived its absolute magnitude H=8.68±_(0.19)^(0.22)mag with corresponding phase function parameters G_(1)=0.82±_(0.10)^(0.09)and G_(2)=0.02±_(0.02)^(0.03).

A knowledge graph(KG)is a knowledge base that integrates and represents data based on a graph-structured data model or *** have made efforts to construct geosciencerelated KGs to overcome semantic heterogeneity and facilitate knowledge representation,data integration,and text ***,there is currently no comprehensive paleontology KG or data-driven discovery based on *** this study,we constructed a two-layer model to represent the ordinal hierarchical structure of the paleontology KG following a top-down construction *** ontology containing 19365 concepts has been defined up to *** this basis,we derived the synonymy list based on the paleontology KG and designed corresponding online functions in the OneStratigraphy database to showcase the use of the KG in paleontological research.

Species of the ciliate genera Myxophyllum and Conchophthirus are found as endocommensals of terrestrial and freshwater mollusks,*** far,there have been few studies of these genera and morphological data for most members are often *** the present work,two new species,Myxophyllum weishanense *** Conchophthirus paracurtus ***.,and a known species,Conchophthirus lamellidens,were isolated from hosts in Lake Weishan Wetland,*** studies indicate that *** *** be recognized mainly by the combination of about 60 somatic kineties on both ventral and dorsal sides and the presence of caudal *** paracurtus *** from congeners in its body shape and size,having a glabrous area on the posterior right side,and having fewer somatic *** addition,differences in their ITS2(Internally Transcribed Spacer 2)secondary structures support the discrimination of the two new species from their highly similar *** improved diagnosis for the poorly known species,***-lidens is also *** analyses reveal that members of the genus Myxophyllum belong to a fully supported clade that is sister to a large,poorly supported clade consisting of Hemispeiridae,Ancistridae,and several lineages of the nonmonophyletic *** Myxophyllum clade also includes Protophyra ovicola JQ956552,a possible *** of the two new Conchophthirus species cluster with other congeners in a fully supported clade that is unrelated to either the‘typical’thigmotrichs or to pleuronematids,thus conflicting with the traditional classification,and may represent an orphan scuticociliate lineage.

High-resolution CT-scan data reveals the tooth replacement pattern of the Late Jurassic tyrannosauroid Guanlong wucaii (Dinosauria, Theropoda)

The Tyrannosauridae,which is characterized by specialized pachydont dentition and putative bone-cracking predatory strategies,is one of the most extensively studied theropod *** tooth replacement patterns,crucial for understanding feeding behaviors,have been thoroughly studied in this group,studies on non-tyrannosaurid tyrannosauroids are relatively *** study utilizes high-resolution CT data to investigate the tooth replacement pattern in two specimens of Guanlong wucaii,a Late Jurassic tyrannosauroid,and provides insights into the evolution of tooth replacement across ***-generation replacement teeth,a rarity observed mainly in giant predatory theropods(*** tyrannosaurids),were detected in the dentary dentition of the juvenile *** reconstructions display a consistent cephalad alternating tooth replacement pattern in the maxilla and the dentary of both of the examined individuals,with Z-spacing values exceeding *** Guanlong grows,the Z-spacing value in the maxillary dentition increases,resembling the ontogenetic changes documented in the ***,like Tarbosaurus,Guanlong also displays a discontinuity between the tooth replacement waves at the premaxilla-maxilla *** study thus demonstrates that some tyrannosaurid-like tooth replacement patterns were acquired before the origin of the Tyrannosauridae.

A new aberrant species of the genus Sphaerostoma(Trematoda: Opecoelidae) from the Amur River basin

A new freshwater opecoelid species, Sphaerostoma tamarae sp. nov., is described from Rhynchocypris percnura mantschurica caught in the Syumnyur River(Amur River basin,Russia). This parasite species differs from all other congeners in the distribution of the vitelline follicles(restricted to the hindbody) and the morphology of the ventral sucker(strongly protuberant). Molecular phylogenetic analysis based on 28S rRNA gene sequences and the morphological analysis allow to tentatively assign the new species to the genus Sphaerostoma,without closing the question regarding the true genus affiliation of this species. In addition, the authors provide an argument for renaming the Plagioporinae to the Sphaerostomatinae.

Injectable“cocktail”hydrogel with dual-stimuli-responsive drug release,photothermal ablation,and drug-antibody synergistic effect

The combination of the first-line standard chemotherapeutic drug doxorubicin hydrochloride(DOX)and the molecular-targeted drug Herceptin(HCT)has emerged as a promising strategy for human epidermal growth receptor 2(HER-2)overexpressing breast cancer ***,insufficient drug accumulation and severe cardiotoxicity are two major challenges that limit its clinical ***,an in situ forming gold nanorods(AuNRs)-sodium alginate(ALG)hybrid hydrogel encapsulating DOX and HCT was engineered for tumor synergistic therapy involving injectable,dual-stimuli-responsive drug release,photothermal ablation,and drug-antibody synergistic *** photothermal agent AuNRs,anticancer drug DOX,and anticancer antibody HCT were mixed in ALG solution,and after injection,the soluble ALG was quickly transformed into a hydrogel in the presence of Ca^(2+)in the ***,the hybrid hydrogel exhibits an extremely high photothermal conversion efficiency of 70%under 808 nm laser *** thermal effect can also provide photothermal stimulation to trigger the drug release from the gel *** addition,the drug release rate and the releasing degree are also sensitive to the *** vitro studies demonstrated that the PEI-AuNR/DOX/HCT/ALG hydrogel has facilitated the therapeutic efficiency of each payload and demonstrated a strong synergistic killing effect on SK-BR-3 *** vivo imaging results showed that the local drug delivery system can effectively reduce the nonspecific distribution in normal tissues and increase drug concentration at tumor *** proposed hydrogel system shows significant clinical implications by easily introducing a sustainable photothermal therapy and a potential universal carrier for the local delivery of multiple drugs to overcome the challenges faced in HER-2 overexpressing cancer therapy.

RHA2b-mediated MYB30 degradation facilitates MYB75-regulated,sucrose-induced anthocyanin biosynthesis in Arabidopsis seedlings

Anthocyanins play diverse roles in plant physiology and stress *** Arabidopsis,the MYB–bHLH–WD40(MBW)complex has a crucial role in the regulation of anthocyanin ***,we report that the R2R3-MYB transcription factor MYB30 and the ubiquitin E3 ligase RHA2b participate in anthocyanin biosynthesis through regulation of the MBW ***30 was found to negatively regulate sucrose-induced anthocyanin biosynthesis in Arabidopsis *** of multiple genes involved inflavo-noid or anthocyanin biosynthesis was affected in the myb30 mutant,and MYB30 directly repressed the expression of MYB75,which encodes a core component of the MBW complex,by binding to its ***,MYB30 physically interacted with MYB75 to inhibit its activity by repressing MBW complex *** addition,sucrose treatment signicantly promoted MYB30 degradation via the action of *** ubiquitination and degradation of MYB30 were signicantly attenuated in the rha2b mutant un-der high-sucrose treatment,and further analysis showed that MYB75 directly promoted RHA2b expression in response to high *** work thus reveals an anthocyanin biosynthetic regulatory module,RHA2b–MYB30,that controls the function of the MBW complex via *** repression of MYB75 by MYB30 is released by MYB75-induced RHA2b expression,thus ensuring the self-activation of MYB75 when anthocy-anin synthesis is needed.
