BACKGROUND Picky eating is a commonly observed behavior among children globally,negatively impacting their physical and mental *** common characteristics distinguish peaky eaters,including food selectivity,food neophobia,and food avoidance,there is no clear definition to assess this *** to the unavailability of data regarding picky eating,it wasn’t easy to estimate its *** To develop a regional protocol to help healthcare professionals identify and manage mild and moderate picky eating *** A virtual roundtable discussion was held in April 2021 to gather the opinions of seven pediatricians and two pediatric dietitians from eight Middle Eastern countries who had great experience in the management of picky *** discussion covered different topics,including clearly defining mild and moderate picky eating,identifying the role of diet fortification in these cases,and the possibility of developing a systematic approach to diet *** The panel identified picky eating as consuming an inadequate amount and variety of foods by rejecting familiar and unfamiliar *** of the time,moderate picky eating cases had micronutrient deficiencies with over-or undernutrition;the mild cases only showed inadequate food consumption and/or poor diet *** attention to the organic red flags like growth faltering and development delay and behavioral red flags,including food fixation and anticipatory gagging,will help healthcare professionals evaluate the picky eaters and the caregivers to care for their *** dietary supplementation and commercial food fortification play an important role in picky eating,they were no benefit in the Middle *** The panel agreed that food fortification through a food-first approach and oral nutritional supplements would be the best for Middle Eastern *** recommendations would facilitate identifying and managing picky-eating children in the Middle East.

Background: Maternal mortality remains a major public health problem worldwide. Objectives: Our study aims to present the results of an analysis of reviews of maternal deaths at HGOPY. Methodology: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study with retrospective data collection from archived records and reviewed maternal death reports. Our study lasted 8 months, from October 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024. The study covered maternal death files at the HGOPY over an 8-year period, from 1st of January 2016 to the 31st of December 2023. Data were processed and analyzed using Statitical Paquage for Social Science (SPSS) version 26.0. Results: We counted a total of 160 maternal deaths, of which 97 had been reviewed. We excluded 61 deceased women reviewed and retained 33. We recorded a cumulative total of 160 maternal deaths and 19,651 live births. The peak in the proportion of maternal deaths at the Yaoundé Gynaeco-Obstetric and paediatric Hospital was in 2021, with a proportion of 0.013. No maternal deaths had been reviewed between 2016 to 2017. Most deaths (64%) occurred between 37 and 40 weeks. The majority (30.5%) were aged between 30 and 35. The data show that 80.6% of maternal deaths were due to direct obstetric causes, while 19.4% were due to indirect causes. Most deaths (69.4%) were preventable. Only 8.3% were not preventable. Conclusion: Concerted efforts must be made to adapt maternal death prevention and management strategies to local contexts in order to significantly reduce these alarming figures.

Background:Still little is known about the impact on right ventricle function of the 2 main approaches to Norwood palliation in Hypoplastic left heart syndrome,the right ventricle-pulmonary artery shunt(RVPAS)and the modified Blalock-Taussig shunt(mBTS).Methods:The cohort included 27 patients with Hypoplastic left heart syndrome(10 in the mBTS group,17 in the RVPAS group).Longitudinal strain,tricuspid annulus peak systolic excursion and fractional area change were evaluated before Norwood and in four different breakpoints in the steady-state after Norwood procedure(30-days,90-days,140-days and 200-days after Norwood).Results:No significant differences were found in all standard echocardiographic functional parameters between the two groups at any ***,when we compared right ventricle function before and after Norwood procedure,longitudinal strain significantly improved in mBTS group compared to pre-surgical assessment(after 90-days:mBTS+27,35%±43,47 ***-8,20%±25,25,p=0,03;after 200-days:mBTS+10.19%±36.58 ***-21.64%±30.43,p=0.04).Conclusion:The mBTS group,which did not receive any ventriculotomy,showed a significant increase in right ventricle longitudinal strain during *** data support the use of longitudinal strain in Hypoplastic left heart syndrome evaluation and may suggest potential value in terms of cardiac mechanics in using mBTS,preserving the right ventricle integrity.

Complications aroused from Meckel’s diverticulum tend to developed in children. Children presented with abdominal pain, intestinal obstruction, intussusception or gastrointestinal bleeding may actually suffered from complicated Meckel’s diverticulum. With the advancement of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) in children, the use of laparoscopy in the diagnosis and subsequent laparoscopic excision of Meckel’s diverticulum has gained popularity. Recently, single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) has emerged as a new technique in minimally invasive surgery. This review offers the overview in the development of MIS in the management of children suffered from Meckel’s diverticulum. The current evidence in different laparoscopic techniques, including conventional laparoscopy, SILS, the use of special laparoscopic instruments, intracorporeal diverticulectomy and extracorporeal diverticulectomy in the management of Meckel’s diverticulum in children were revealed.

AIM To identify factors other than active disease and anemia that contribute to fatigue in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).METHODS We performed an electronic search in Medline and EMBASE from their inception to May 2017 using the search term "fatigue" or the related keywords "physical impairment" and "inflammatory bowel disease" with the filter "child"(age 0-18 years). Cross-sectional and case-control studies were included. We restricted our search to studies published in English. We used the PRISMA checklist and flow diagram. Duplicate articles were manually deleted in End Note. To identify further relevant studies, we checked the reference lists of the selected *** We identified 149 papers, of which 19 were retrieved for full text review. Eleven studies were subsequently excluded because fatigue was not evaluated as an outcome measure. Eight papers focused on the desired topic and were discussed in the final analysis. A lack of uniformity of outcome measures made the pooling of data impossible. In all but one study, questionnaires were used to evaluate fatigue. In the remaining study, an accelerometer was used to measure daily activities, sleeping time and their relationships with fatigue in a more quantifiable manner. Adolescents with IBD are significantly more fatigued than healthy controls. In addition to active disease, increased anxiety or depression and disturbed family relationships were frequently reported predictors of fatigue. Quantitative measurement of physical activity in patients with Crohn's disease showed a reduction in the number of steps per day, and patients with ulcerative colitis had a shorter duration of physical activity during the *** Fatigue in pediatric IBD is related to a combination of biological, functional and behavioral factors, which should all be taken into account when managing fatigue.
