Background Asthma is a significant chronic health problem worldwide. Management aims at disease control by reducing functional impairment and exacerbations and improving quality of life (QoL). We report a multi-center study to survey asthma control and QoL in four cities in the pearl River Delta. Methods The conjoint survey involved ten Hong Kong pediatric hospitals/units, two Shenzhen hospitals, two Macao hos-pitals, and two Guangzhou hospitals on asthma control (using Asthma Control Test) and QoL (pediatric Allergic Disease Quality of Life Questionnaire, pADQLQ). Acceptability of a treatment is graded as very good/good/fair/poor. Results Good asthma control was only reported in 80% subjects in Hong Kong, but higher in sister cities (85–94%, pprevalent among the four cities. Logistic regres-sion showed better control of asthma was associated with better pADQLQ (B=?0.029, p ptability of bronchodilator (B=?1.488, p = 0.025), negatively with 'smoker in family' (B=?0.83, p = 0.015) and various pADQLQ domains. Conversely, worse pADQLQ was associated with allergic rhinitis severity (B=4.77, p poor control of asthma (B=7.56, p p p p p province. This study identifies potentially modifiable environmental and treatment factors associated with poor asthma control and QoL for health-care interventions. Having a smoker in the family is independently associated with poor asthma control and QoL.

AIM： To investigate the frequency of the common NOD2/CARD15 susceptibility variants and two functional polymorphisms of OCTN cation transporter genes in Hungarian pediatric patients with Crohn＇s disease （CD）. METHODS： A cohort of 19 unrelated pediatric and 55 unrelated adult patients with Crohn＇s disease and 49 healthy controls were studied. Genotyping of the three common CD-associated CARD15 variants （Arg702Trp, Gly908Arg and 2007finsC changes） with the SLC22A4 1672C→T, and SLC22A5 -207G→C mutations was performed by direct sequencing of the specific regions of these genes. RESULTS： At least one CARD15 mutation was present in 52.6% of the children and in 34.5% of the adults compared to 14.3% in controls. Surprisingly, strongly different mutation profile was detected in the pediatric versus adult patients. While the G908R and 1007finsC variants were 18.4% and 21.1% in the pediatric group, they were 1.82% and 11.8% in the adults, and were 1.02% and 3.06% in the controls, respectively. The R702W allele was increased approximately two-fold in the adult subjects, while in the pediatric group it was only approximately 64% of the controls （9.09% in the adults, 2.63% in pediatric patients, and 4.08% in the controls）. No accumulation of the OCTN variants was observed in any patient group versus the controls.CONCLUSION： The frequency of the NOD2/CARD15 susceptibility variants in the Hungarian pediatric CD population is high and the profile differs from the adult CD patients, whereas the results for SLC22A4 and SLC22A5 mutation screening do not confirm the assumption that the carriage of these genotypes means an obligatory susceptibility to CD.

Background The pathogenesis of autism spectrum disorders remains elusive and currently there are no diagnostic or pre-dictive biomarkers in autism available. proteomic profiling has been used in a wide range of neurodevelopmental disorder studies, which could produce deeper perceptions of the molecular bases behind certain disease and potentially becomes useful in discovering biomarkers in autism spectrum disorders. Methods Serum samples were collected from autistic children about 3 years old in age (n = 32) and healthy controls (n = 20) in similar age and gender. The samples were identified specific proteins that are diff erentially expressed by magnetic bead-based pre-fractionation and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-ToF-MS). Results Eight protein peaks were significantly different in autistic children from the healthy controls (p peaks with the most significant diff erences were 6428 and 7758 Da in size. Conclusion According to diff erences in serum protein profiles between the autistic children and healthy controls, this study identified a set of diff erentially expressed proteins those are significant for further evaluation and might function as biomark-ers in autism.

Introduction: Infant and child mortality is a worldwide concern, but developing countries such as Mali are more affected. The aim of this study was to investigate morbidity and factors associated with mortality in children aged 1 month to 15 years. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional study which took place from January 1 to December 31, 2020 covering children aged 1 month to 15 years hospitalized at the Kalaban-Coro CSRéf. Data were entered into Excel and analyzed using SpSS version 20 software. Results: Five hundred children aged 1 months to 15 years were included. The age range 1 to 5 years (53.6%) and male sex (58.2%) were the most represented. Malaria (72.2%), acute respiratory infections (6.2%) and diarrhea/dehydration (3%) were the main morbidities. Mortality was estimated at 10.6%, and the two main causes of death were malaria (56.6%) and acute respiratory infections (7.54%). Univariate analysis revealed a statistically significant association between the dependent variable (death) and age (p Conclusion: This study confirms the high rate of infant and child morbidity and mortality in our health facilities. Strengthening human resources and intensifying behavior-change communication can help reverse the trend.

Background To determine whether the introduction of pasteurized donor human milk and probiotics for infants bornpsis. Methods We performed a retrospective analysis of two cohorts: before and after the introduction of probiotics and pasteurised donor human milk. Univariate analysis of primary and secondary outcomes was performed;variables impacting outcomes were assessed using multivariate logistic regression. Results There were 1791 infants: 1334 in the pre-donor milk/probiotic cohort and 457 in the post-donor milk/probiotic cohort. On univariate analysis, mortality (7.6 vs. 2.4%, ppsis (6.2 vs. 3.5%, p=0.028) were statistically significantly lower in the post-donor milk/probiotic group. NEC (2.8 vs. 1.5%, p=0.14) and non-NEC associ-ated gastrointestinal perforation (1.6 vs. 0.4%, p=0.052) were lower in the post-donor milk/probiotics cohort, but these were not statistically significant. The difference in mortality remained statistically significant on multivariate analysis in the post-donor milk/probiotic cohort compared to those in the pre-donor milk/probiotic cohort (odds ratio 0.31, 95% confidence interval 0.16–0.61). The decrease in the incidence of NEC was consistent with previous observational studies but the differ-ence was not statistically significant. Conclusion The availability of probiotics and pasteurised donor human milk is associated with a reduction in mortality in very preterm infants.

Usefulness of the Surgical Apgar Score to predict the Occurrence of Major Complications in the Early post-Operative period of Major Surgeries: Experience of Two Second-Category Hospitals in Cameroon

Objective: The Surgical Apgar Score (SAS) is a tool for intraoperative stratification of the risk of serious complications in the early postoperative period. It varies from 0 to 10 points divided into three risk categories (0 to 4 high, 5 to 7 moderate, 8 to 10 low). The aim of the study was to evaluate its relevance in predicting the appearance of these complications. Material and methods: This descriptive and analytical study was carried out at the “Laquintinie” Hospital in Douala and at the Central Hospital in Yaounde, Cameroon. The main data were collected on a population of patients over 18 years old and recorded on a survey form. They consisted of variables of main interest and exposure variables. Univariate and multivariate statistical analysis using top-down logistic regression models made it possible to evaluate the association of each variable of main interest and each exposure variable. The association was significant at p Results: Of the 88 patients studied, the SAS was 3 hours. In multivariate, this link persisted only and strongly for the SAS OR (IC) 0.1 (0.1 - 0.2) and p = 000. Conclusion: The study found a specific and powerful link between the SAS score plications in the early postoperative period, in favor of its relevance in predicting them.

partial endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition(EndMT)is an intermediate phenotype observed in endothelial cells(ECs)undergoing a transition toward a mesenchymal state to support neovascularization during(patho)physiological ***,we investigated the occurrence of partial EndMT in ECs under hypoxic/ischemic conditions and identified general transcription factor IIH subunit 4(GTF2H4)as a positive regulator of this *** addition,we discovered that GTF2H4 collaborates with its target protein excision repair cross-complementation group 3(ERCC3)to co-regulate partial ***,by using phosphorylation proteomics and site-directed mutagenesis,we demonstrated that GTF2H4 was involved in the phosphorylation of receptor coactivator 3(NCOA3)at serine 1330,which promoted the interaction between NCOA3 and p65,resulting in the transcriptional activation of NF-κB and the NF-kB/Snail signaling axis during partial *** vivo experiments confirmed that GTF2H4 significantly promoted partial EndMT and angiogenesis after ischemic ***,our findings reveal that targeting GTF2H4 is promising for tissue repair and offers potential opportunities for treating hypoxic/ischemic diseases.

Inhibitory Ability of children with Developmental Dyscalculia

Inhibitory ability of children with developmental dyscalculia（DD） was investigated to explore the cognitive mechanism underlying *** to the definition of developmental dyscalculia,19 children with DD-only and 10 children with DD＆RD（DD combined with reading disability） were selected step by step,children in two control groups were matched with children in case groups by gender and age,and the match ratio was 1：*** testing software named DMDX was used to measure inhibitory ability of the *** differences of reaction time in number Stroop tasks and differences of accuracy in incongruent condition of color-word Stroop tasks and object inhibition tasks between DD-only children and their controls reached significant levels（p〈0.05）,and the differences of reaction time in number Stroop tasks between dyscalculic and normal children did not disappear after controlling the non-executive *** difference of accuracy in color-word incongruent tasks between children with DD＆RD and normal children reached significant levels（p〈0.05）.children with DD-only confronted with general inhibitory deficits,while children with DD＆RD confronted with word inhibitory deficits only.
