Macular corneal dystrophy(MCD)is a progressive,bilateral stromal dystrophic disease that arises from mutations in carbohydrate sulfotransferase 6(CHST6).Corneal transplantation is the ultimate therapeutic solution for MCD ***,postoperative recurrence remains a significant *** conducted a retrospective review of a clinical cohort comprising 102 MCD patients with 124 eyes that underwent either penetrating keratoplasty(PKP)or deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty(DALK).Our results revealed that the recurrence rate was nearly three times higher in the DALK group(39.13%,9/23 eyes)compared with the PKP group(10.89%,11/101 eyes),suggesting that surgical replacement of the corneal endothelium for treating MCD is advisable to prevent postoperative *** experimental data confirmed the robust m RNA and protein expression of CHST6 in human corneal endothelium and the rodent homolog CHST5 in mouse *** knockdown of wild-type Chst5 in mouse corneal endothelium(AC^(siChst5)),but not in the corneal stroma,induced experimental MCD with similar extracellular matrix synthesis impairments and corneal thinning as observed in MCD *** carrying Chst5 point mutation also recapitulated clinical phenotypes of MCD,along with corneal endothelial *** injection of wild-type Chst5 rescued the corneal impairments in AC^(siChst5)mice and retarded the disease progression in Chst5 mutant ***,our study provides new mechanistic insights and therapeutic approaches for MCD treatment by highlighting the role of corneal endothelium in MCD development.

Very long chain-saturated and-polyunsaturated fatty acids(VLC-SFA and VLC-PUFA, respectively) are a functionally important class of fatty acids containing 28 carbons or more in their acyl chain. They are synthesized by the elongation of very long fatty acids-4(ELOVL4) enzyme, expressed mainly in the brain, retina, skin, testes, and meibomian gland, where these fatty acids are found(Agbaga et al., 2008). Further, these organs exhibit tissuespecific VLC-PUFA and VLC-SFA biosynthesis and incorporation into complex lipids for specific functions. In the brain, skin, and Meibomian glands, the ELOVL4 mainly makes VLC-SFA, which are incorporated into complex sphingolipids. In the retina, the ELOVL4 makes VLC-PUFA that are incorporated into phosphatidylcholine, that are critical for visual function, while in testes and sperm, the VLC-PUFA are incorporated into sphingolipids that are critical for fertility(Yeboah et al., 2021).

Objective:To develop and evaluate a Chinese version of the Symptom Questionnaire for Visual Dysfunctions(CSQVD)to quantify visual dysfunction symptoms in school-age children with various eye diseases,and to explore the relationship between ophthalmological disorders and visual dysfunction ***:Following standard scale adaptation procedures,the Symptom Questionnaire for Visual Dysfunctions(SQVD)was translated into Chinese(CSQVD).We employed random sampling to survey 198 outpatients aged 7–18 to assess the psychometric properties of the *** the reliable and validated questionnaire,we evaluated the determinants of visual dysfunction symptoms among 406 school-age patients at an eye *** CSQVD scores were correlated with demographic and clinical variables,including gender,age,eye position,refractive power,and best-corrected visual *** analysis identified potential risk factors,followed by binary logistic regression and multiple linear regression analysis on factors with a P-valueeyes(B=5.052,95%CI[7.779,2.325],P=0.000)and SE power(B=0.234,95%CI[0.375,0.205],P=0.001)significantly affected the CSQVD scale ***:The Chinese version of the SQVD scale(CSQVD)demonstrates good feasibility,discriminatory power,validity,and reliability in assessing Chinese school-aged ***,those who have severe myopia and amblyopia reported more visual dysfunction symptoms.

●AIM:To introduce the macular hole(MH)hydromassage technique as a potentially beneficial approach for the treatment of large or persistent MH.●METHODS:This retrospective observational case series comprised 16 consecutive patients(17 eyes)diagnosed with *** criteria involved a hole aperture diameter larger than 600μm or the presence of an unclosed MH larger than 600μm following the previous *** MH repair procedures were administered in all cases,involving the manipulation and aspiration of the hole margin through the application of water flow with a soft-tip flute needle.A comprehensive assessment was conducted for each case before and after surgery,and optical coherence tomography(OCT)images were captured at every follow-up point.●RESULTS:The mean preoperative aperture diameter was 747±156μm(range 611-1180μm),with a mean base diameter of 1390±435μm(range 578-2220μm).Following surgery,all cases achieved complete anatomical closure of MH,with 13 cases(76.5%)exhibiting type 1 closure and 4 cases(23.5%)demonstrating type 2 *** significant differences were observed in the preoperative OCT variables between the two closure *** with type 1 closure showed a significantly improved visual acuity(0.70±0.10,range 0.50-0.80)compared to those with type 2 closure(0.90±0.12,range 0.80-1.00,P=0.014).●CONCLUSION:The MH hydromassage technique demonstrates promising results,achieving acceptable closure rates in cases of large or persistent *** technique may serve as an effective adjunctive maneuver during challenging MH surgery.
